  1. That all sounds very yummy, Jewell! I just threw together a nice salad for dinner tonight, full of spinach, feta cheese, red onion, mushrooms, grilled chicken and homemade croutons! Sprinkled on some lemon juice and olive oil and I'm ready to dig in .
  2. I saw the white hair first. A thin young man, about the same age as the punt touters, but looking old before his time, his hair worn to his shoulders, so that it blew slightly in the wind as he leaned against the metal of the bridge, flanked on either side by Japanese tourists taking photographs. He wore no hat and his university gown was scarlet, not the usual black. Ghostwalk - Rebecca Stott
  3. Welcome to BCF, Burto! Luckily we are all very friendly (and awesome, I might add ) and are very glad you joined us!
  4. Scallops Gratin . However if that's not readily available I would gladly take some babaghanoush and anything else Middle Eastern that my mom makes .
  5. What books of his did you pick up, Elgin? I'm a big fan of his old stuff, but haven't read anything past 'It.'
  6. Hey there and welcome to BCF, Elgin! Glad you joined us .
  7. That is annoying, Bee! Especially if you ask them a question or if they asked you to text them in the first place, and then it's like they just forget about you. Isn't there a book of texting etiquette out there?! lol
  8. That pic looks like Gerard Butler, Inver, who apparently was born in Glasgow! Lovely pic .
  9. I know Roxi, for some reason when Thomas speaks in that film the end of his words/phrases go up, if you know what I mean. It's very hard to explain! I'm not sure why he speaks that way though. Maybe the Indians in that region (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) speak like that? I agree about the glasses and suit too . There are so many good quotes in that movie! I love this exchange: Victor: You gotta look mean or people won't respect you. White people will run all over you if you don't look mean. You gotta look like a warrior! You gotta look like you just came back from killing a buffalo! Thomas: But our tribe never hunted buffalo - we were fisherman. Victor: What! You want to look like you just came back from catching a fish? This ain't "Dances with Salmon" you know!
  10. Can I ask what you liked best about BD, Nici, or what about it makes it your #2 book in the series? I first heard about the books last fall from a co-worker. She just kind of mentioned them in passing and I was mildly interested, but not until just after the new year did I actually pick the first book up. The rest is history, as they say .
  11. Ooohhh yay Roxi, you've seen it! Yep, Adam Beach as Victor looks amazing with that hair, woo . That speech at the end is excellent, and I love the story-telling mode that Thomas gets into; he just draws you right into his imagination. Love the car that can only drive in reverse too .
  12. I'm sure I mentioned this film in my initial 'fave film list' post, but I watched Smoke Signals again this weekend and was reminded how much I love it . Definitely one of the most overlooked indie films about Native American reservation life.
  13. There used to be this teeny coffee shop in the neighborhood where I had my first apartment, and they had the best cheese danish. Honestly, I would almost get teary when I popped in there and had one with my coffee, it was that good, lol.
  14. Man you guys are on a roll tonight! Yeah, so Midnight Sun... Finish it, SM!!
  15. I had a salad tonight since I had to use up a bunch of stuff before the weekend so it wouldn't go bad while I'm gone. I hate wasting veggies. Anyway, had some spinach, feta, onion, mushrooms and grilled chicken. YUM!
  16. You guys are too funny! Gyre, missing Muse CDs is very bug-worthy! Not because you are trying to find them to send me some songs mind you, but you know what I mean .
  17. I know they often change covers, but I'm not sure I've ever heard of changing titles. I wonder what exactly they didn't like about 'Physick Book of Deliverance Dane?' Perhaps they thought that 'Salem' in the title might draw a more international audience, since the witch trials are widely known? I hope you guys find some surprise funds to get your hands on a copy! It is so worth the read .
  18. Over the last two years, as I have tried to tease out the truths from the untruths in that series of events that seeped out through Elizabeth's death, like lava moving upwards and outwards through through salt water from a tear in the seabed, I have had to be you several times, Cameron Brown, in order to claw myself towards some kind of coherence. Ghostwalk - Rebecca Stott
  19. I haven't heard about a fifth Twilight installment either, SweetiiPie, but I wouldn't mind seeing Meyer finish Midnight Sun and then even do the other 3 books from Edwards perspective . Goodness knows she's got an audience who would definitely buy these.
  20. Makes perfect sense to me, Frankie!! I've only read the first 2 books as well and know exactly where you are coming from . Now just wait until you see the TV series! Or wait, have you already had the pleasure?!
  21. Yep, I think Tara and Jason are the funniest. Oh and Lafayette too! I love him .
  22. When I saw that episode, I kept thinking It was bizarre, but I loved it . Gyre and Chesil, count me in on the flag-flying .
  23. Chesilbeach, I see you have 'Best in Show' on your list. Have you seen the rest of Guest's films? I love his stuff, and I think my all-time favorite would have to be Waiting for Guffman. I absolutely love his 'mocu-mentary' style of film making. Unfortunately I never did get to see the latest one, I think it was called For Your Consideration? Did you see that one? Poppyshake, I too love 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and would call it a fave. I watched it again recently and was reminded how much I loved it .
  24. Wonderful review, Janet! I'm SO glad you enjoyed this book . I feel the same about wanting to read more fiction from this interesting time period. It's amazing how much the situation got out of hand in Salem, and was really just due to the ignorance of a few people. These women accused of witchcraft seemed very well-intentioned and were basically just misunderstood. I've read that Howe is already working on her second novel, and after that has plans for a sequel to the Salem book! Can't wait .
  25. Setterfield is a wonderful writer and I can't wait for her to come out with something new, Bethany! I picked up a copy of Ghostwalk today by Rebecca Stott and thought I would post the synopsis here if anyone is interested. It looked intriguing to me, plus Iain Pears left praise on the back cover so I could not resist buying it . I might try reading it once I'm done with the Harris. A Cambridge historian, Elizabeth Vogelsang, is found drowned, clutching a glass prism in her hand. The book she was writing about Isaac Newton's involvement with alchemy
