  1. Exactly, Mia! I was also disappointed to see that Jack Nicholson didn't portray Jack Torrance at all how I saw him in the book, or Shelly Duvall for that matter either. Torrance seemed to have a much harder struggle between being a good man and getting dragged into the whole evilness of the hotel in the novel, and his wife I thought was stronger in the book. Duvall just portrayed her as a meek whiner. And poor Halloran in the movie? Don't get me started...
  2. I have finished Ghostwalk! A bit of a struggle for me, but I think I liked it. I need to sort out my thoughts before posting them. I'm glad I read it though. I stopped at Half Price Books tonight after dinner and was excited to find a $2 advanced reader's copy of The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. I've had this on my wishlist for awhile so I was excited to find it so cheap! Still no idea on what I'll read next though now that I'm done with Ghostwalk... Kell, I'm so excited you got The Lost Book of Salem! I hope you like it and you'll have to let us know what you think. I love reading about that time period too .
  3. I loved Arrested Development, Nicola . I had no idea they were thinking of doing a movie though - I hope it gets made! I'll again mention Freaks & Geeks and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Both excellent shows IMO.
  4. Which Jasper Fforde book are you reading, ScarletBella? I read The Big Over Easy earlier this year but haven't yet read The Fourth Bear. I know he has a new one coming out soon too . He's hilarious and I can't wait!
  5. How about Jaws, Star Wars or Ordinary People? I thought of the Godfather, but I think that came out in '72...

    Hello

Hey there and welcome to BCF, Jessi! Glad you joined us .
  7. Ooooohh do watch it, Kylie! It's one of my top movies, and is also directed by PT Anderson, the same guy who did Boogie Nights. Hoffman plays Jason Robards' nurse and is wonderful . I love LOVE Magnolia!!
  8. I was home way late tonight and could have cared less about cooking . I had some cheese and crackers (mmmm Boursin!) and will probably have popcorn in a little bit...
  9. Hey now, sometimes having a show just about bums is not necessarily a bad thing!
  10. And what a good year it was!
  11. "You take the good you take the bad you take them both and there you have the Facts of Life, the Facts of Life..." Oh my gosh I forgot about that one, Ceinwenn! I loved that show . And Family Ties too! Such good TV in the 80's...
  12. Those are both excellent films, Kylie! I would also highly recommend Magnolia and Doubt if you haven't seen those. Have you seen The Savages? That's another one I'd like to see. Oh, and he had a hilarious little part in The Big Lebowski too, which is always one of my faves .
  13. I would love to see this movie, Kylie! Hoffman is one of my favorite actors so I'm glad to hear he did an excellent job as usual . I think it's out for rent here so I'm going to have to find it.
  14. I've read Christine and Carrie, and thought the movies were both pretty good. At least I can't remember any real fault I found between them and the books, but it was quite a few years ago now . The Shining book is one of my favorites, but I truly hated the film adaptation. I think probably because the things I loved most about the book were left out of or seriously altered in the film. Stand By Me and Shawshank Redemption were both excellent film adaptations though, and imo better than their short story counterparts .
  15. I would say it was a very good year then for everything, obviously!
  16. I believe you and I were born the same year, ScarletBella since I have those same titles . I was also super excited to see 'My Name is Asher Lev' by Chaim Potok published in that year. That is such a wonderful book! Also 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' by Richard Bach. I read that many years ago and loved it too.
  17. Does anyone here listen to Owl City? I don't know much about them, but my friend burned me a CD of theirs over the weekend and I can't get enough Dental Care - Owl City I brush my teeth And look in the mirror And laugh out loud As I'm beaming from ear to ear I'd rather pick flowers Instead of fight And rather than flaunt my style I'd flash you a smile Of clean pearly whites I've been to the dentist A thousand times, so I know the drill I smooth my hair, sit back in the chair But somehow I still get the chills Have a seat He says pleasantly As he shakes my hand And practically laughs at me Open up nice and wide He says, peering in And with a smirk he says, "Don't have a fit, this'll just pinch a bit" As he tries not to grin When hygienists leave on long vacations That's when dentists scream and lose their patience Talking only brings the toothaches on Because I say the stupidest things So if my resolve goes south I'll swallow my pride with an aspirin And shut my mouth Golf and alcohol don't mix And that's why I don't drink and drive Because, good grief, I'd knock out my teeth And hafta kiss my smile goodbye I've been to the dentist A thousand times, so I know the drill I smooth my hair, sit back in the chair But somehow I still get the chills
  18. Woo-HOOO yay Lexie!! <---Me, excited for you.
  19. Almost finished Ghostwalk this weekend! I have about 50 pages left, so hopefully will polish them off this evening before bed. It's very... odd ? Not sure if that's the right term, but needless to say it's different .
  20. Oh yeah, they did elude to what everyone was up to in the first episode, didn't they? I agree though, here we have to sit through about 6 seasons of CJ/Danny and Josh/Donna banter, and when something finally happens the show's over! Oh well, hopefully Sorkin and/or Schlamme (sp?) are reading our posts right about now . Oh, and I always wished that Toby had gotten back together with his wife, or someone at least! He seemed lonely sometimes .
  21. Not much in the house now so I had a cheese sandwich, lol. I'll have popcorn later though, yum!
  22. No, you're not alone in thinking this, Stephanie, I agree with wanting to see less of the campaigns and more of what was happening back in the WW. Although I loved seeing Josh so I could live with it, but I really wanted to see how CJ handled her new role and Toby struggling with his life not in the WW. I would love it if they did a reunion special one day! Everyone was so talented and ambitious in their jobs during the administrations, you'd think the writers could come up with some great stories of where they all ended up after spending 2 terms in the White House!
  23. I hope so, Raven!! That has been one of my most favorite shows. I'm hoping Sorkin gets back to TV soon. Which WW episode is up next for you? I didn't necessarily watch a DVD last night, but a VHS tape of Wed night's Ghosthunters that my friend faithfully recorded for me .
  24. Aww that's too bad, SueB! Did you at least get to hear him sing Summer Days or I Think I Love You?! I don't mind LOTR too much, but then again I've only seen the first one in the theatre and the rest on DVD. I don't think I could stand to sit that long again! They were all good, but I don't have any desire to see them again.
  25. Sounds yummy, Adam! Last time I had a chili dog was in LA at Pink's and oh my goodness it was absolutely heavenly! I had a boring salad tonight, bleh. Had to use up the rest of my veggies and chicken since I'm not home over the weekend.
