What's Your Book Activity Today? - Take 6!

Oooh great, BookJumper! Glad you had a good time . Did you have to stand in the queue for long? How was the talk he gave? -
American or British Mystery/Crime

You too like Iain Pears, blencathra? If so, do you have any favorites? I think I love 'Instance of the Fingerpost' most, but I can never get enough of his art mystery series with Argyle. -

I never really have given it much thought, so I guess it really doesn't matter where an author is from. I confess that I haven't read much crime, and the mystery I prefer is the historical kind. I love Matthew Pearl, and I know he's American, but then I also love Iain Pears however I have no idea where he's from . -
I've heard of many of those books listed, Lexie, but I think the only one I've read is 'The Shell Seekers' by Rosamunde Pilcher. Not in '87, since I was too busy reading teen books at the time, but since then.

Close to being halfway through Leeway Cottage. We'll see if I can finish it whilst on vacay. -
Chrissy, that chicken dish sounds delicious! It sounds similar to a dish my mom and grandma made which also included green beans. I'm not sure that they use as much cumin in Lebanese cooking, but I do know they use cinnamon. I'm not sure what I'm having tonight, seeing that it's not even 9am here, but I did take chicken out of the freezer so something to do with that.

Salad for me again with all the fixings. I think they need to develop a hybrid spinach that lasts more than a week so I have time to eat it all and get my money's worth!

And confuse us further he will! I will have to get my hands on FAS then since it's the only Thursday book I don't own. Is 'Shades of Gray' yet another series he's starting? I would love to see another Nursery Crime book, although I still have to read The Fourth Bear so I should stop grumbling I guess. -
That's a classic, Jo-Bridge! Excellent movie . Late last night I watched the first half of 'Return to Me,' which is just a lovely feel-good movie that I never get tired of.

BookJumper, I saw 'First Among Sequels' the other day at B&N and for some lame reason didn't even pick it up to look at the blurb. In fact, it was probably because I hadn't had any coffee yet that day and the pesky Starbucks sign was hypnotizing me with its glow, LOL. What is it about? Is it part of the Thursday Next series or the Nursery Crimes? -
In the TV show, didn't they mention something about Terry being a Gulf War vet? Seems like I heard that on an episode.
-
Very nice, Gyre! Thanks for posting . I wonder if he's related to the other Lowes, Chad and Rob? I didn't read any of your spoilers since I haven't seen season 2 yet. But soon!
-
Welcome back from holiday, Nicola! I'm meeting my friend tonight and she's bringing TB season 2 which she recorded for me, whoo!!! Can't wait . I haven't seen season 1 since a couple of months ago and I forget, was there any type of cliffhanger other than I want to be prepared!

Welcome to BCF, Blencathra! Glad you joined us . I'm a big fan of Fforde and Leon as well.

Great, Dimitra! How are you finding 1984? I read more of Leeway Cottage last night and did a couple pages this morning in bed but I was getting sleepy so that didn't last . Loving the book though! I'm hoping to finish it this week while I'm on vacation. -
Is noise allowed? The TV or the children? Some noise, like nature or the dishwasher, but I'm not good tuning things out so definitely not the TV or children (which I don't have any anyways). Music is also okay, as long as it's low and instrumental. Indoors or out? Morning or Evening? Either indoors or out, as long as I'm comfy and the above noise rules have been followed . All times of day too, doesn't matter. Do you read on sofa or do you prefer to snuggle in bed with a good read? Both, plus the big chair near my sofa. I have a large ottoman that I push back and forth between the two. I love reading in bed on the weekend mornings when I get to sleep in, or at night if I'm not too tired. Is a cuppa close to hand? Do you feast while you read? Do you have to ask?! Yes, coffee always nearby but it's not a mandatory partner to a book. Never eating though, I'm far to messy. Does everything have to be just so? Nope So what's your reading habit? I too can usually only stop reading at a chapter or section break. A lot of times my cat takes my bookmark so when I'm ready to stop reading it's nowhere to be found. For some reason I don't like using anything BUT a bookmark in my books (no scraps of paper) so if I can't stop at a chapter break I try to read to a page # that I can easily remember since you'd have to threaten me with bodily harm before I'd fold a page over!

I watched the last episodes of Weeds season 2 last night and it was a major cliffhanger! I need to get my hands on season 3 pronto!

Excellent, Dimitra! Have you read it before? -
As always, Rawr, you are very articulate and convincing in your posts. We still disagree, however, and I won't hold it against you . Too bad I didn't see the film before I read the book - maybe then I wouldn't have such conflicted head about the whole thing.

I'd say 1-2 hours would be about right, Bookjumper. At least if you get there 2 hours ahead of time and you see that there's no crowd formed yet, you can have a wander around since it's in a bookshop! Is Stoker going to be giving a reading or anything before the actual signing? If so, there'll probably be chairs set up and won't have to worry about getting in the queue until afterwards. I've been to 3 signings, one for a local author Jon Hassler and 2 for Matthew Pearl. All were so much fun and I hope you get to see as many interesting authors as you can!

Ooooh I didn't know Katherine was on Twitter, Janet, I'm going to have to follow her now! That's interesting about the Vamp Diaries books, Lexie. I need to finish the other 2 books and will have to take a look at the new set when they come out. We can never have too many vampire books you know .
-
Love that movie, Stephanie! I could watch it over and over .
-
Excellent reviews, Catwoman! I agree with everything you said about Twilight and am glad you are hooked and are planning on reading the rest. If anything they are addictive, and at least now you can give an informed opinion . Please let us know how you are finding New Moon when you start that one!

OMG I'm an idiot . Now I know who you mean since you said war vet! Yes I've seen the show, and I love that guy! He used to be on Gilmore Girls as Layne's BF then husband.
