What's Your Book Activity Today? - Take 6!
Peacefield replied to Echo's topic in General Book Discussions
Glad you liked Rebecca, Paperplane! I read about 50 pages of Leeway Cottage last night and am really enjoying it. It's one of those quiet reads that I haven't read in awhile. Plus, it didn't take me as long as I thought it would to get back into non-vamp subject matter. Not that I won't go back to it straightaway after I finish this one . -
Stop! Hold the presses! Terry Bellefleur?! Is this Andy's brother? I forget. I've only read the first two books so far . But I'm all set for someone else to ogle now - my friend is giving me her tapes of season 2 tomorrow, woohoo!! And it's not just you, Gyre, I agree about Bill. HBO, please get him help in the hair and wardrobe dept for next season!

This isn't really a 'baked good,' but I love the Middle Eastern food smell that my mom and grandma used to make (my mom still does). It reminds me SO much of growing up and I have such strong memories of going to my grandma's and seeing her sitting at the table whipping up something good and smelling that aroma. Even now when I go to the Middle Eastern deli downtown and pass by the kitchen door on the sidewalk it takes me back and almost brings tears to my eyes .

Would you ever get a chance to travel without kids, Katrina? Just wondering, maybe some day it'll just be you and DH that can jet all over the place . I don't read much on trips either, since I'm so busy sight-seeing and am not in my hotel room long enough to do much other than sleep. Except when I had my 2 week road trip in New England I did take 'The Dante Club.' We spent some of our time in Cambridge and Boston, so I wanted to fully immerse myself in the Longfellow-ness by reading the book along the way . I think you should come to the US, Frankie! Lots of extreme and true travel to do here.

January 2010, booklover! I can't wait . I also read yesterday you guys that the US TV network CBS is going to be writing a pilot for The Lost Book of Salem!! Well, I believe it's going to be called 'Deliverance' since the original title here was the Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, but I read the news on Katherine Howe's Facebook page yesterday and I practically fell out of my chair after reading it! Who knows if the network will actually pick up the show after seeing the pilot, but I'm excited . Lexie, next time I run to the used book shop I'm definitely going to be looking for the next book in the Vamp Diaries series. Are there just 4?

After 11 hours at work I never feel like cooking, so I had a few crackers with hummus and apples with peanut butter. Mmmmm Honeycrisp apples are in season now!

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer
Peacefield replied to Nollaig's topic in Children's / Young Adult
I agree, Dimitra, they had to have known what a box office blow out it would be based on the popularity of the books! I have no idea where all the money went either, how much can wire-work and sparkles cost?! I still give kudos to Hardwicke for being the first person to volunteer for the job though. -
The funeral is over. Leeway Cottage by Beth Gutcheon

I haven't heard the new single yet, Stephanie! I must admit I just became a fan of his like a month ago . I am so out of the loop. I'm definitely going to check out the new album tonight though when I get home! Gyre, I love the Black Keys! I could listen to them over and over. I really like their sound, and love that they can do it all with just 2 guys!

Stephanie, someone said to me yesterday that they thought Mika had a new CD coming out today. Have you heard anything about this? I know I've already posted earlier in this thread, but I'll mention what's taken over my iPod recently, since it changes so often- Muse, The Killers, Soundgarden, RCHP, Owl City, Vampire Weekend, Iron & Wine, Dave Brubeck, Mika, Bon Iver and one Ted Nugent track, Stranglehold . I like this song for when I'm a mood.

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

I've been re-re-re-reading parts of NM off and on the last month or so, but I really can't see myself reading it in it's entirety before the film. While it used to be one I liked more than the others in the series, this last re-read was almost annoying. Too much Jacob for my taste and Bella got on my nerves. I agree that the series will work better on screen, and like Dimitra I too have a weakness for romances. I think the films are only going to get better. The first one was almost like a tryout/dress rehearsal, complete with an indie budget and director. Now that they know how enthusiastic people are and have a seemingly endless budget, they are going all out. You can tell that just from the 3 trailers of NM with Weitz as the director, and I'm even more curious to see what Slade is doing with Eclipse. They still won't commit to saying that they are doing BD, but how can they not?! Can you imagine the uproar if they are all of a sudden "yeah, we're just going to do 3 films" ?? -
I finished The Struggle by LJ Smith last night. It was pretty good, and unlike the first book in the series I was more interested in what happened to all the characters. I also spent less time comparing it to you-know-what . Quite a bit more action in this one too! I'm starting Leeway Cottage tonight by Beth Gutcheon. Here's the synopsis: In April 1940, as the Nazis march into Denmark, a rich girl named Sydney Brant marries a gifted Danish pianist, Laurus Moss. Almost at once, their views of the world and their marriage begin to diverge. Laurus's beloved family is in Copenhagen, hostage to Hitler's war. When Laurus chooses to leave Sydney in the fall of 1941 to help build a Danish Resistance from London, Sydney is dismayed. By the time they are reunited four years later, Laurus's family and the reader have been through one of the most stirring stories of the war - Denmark's courageous grassroots rescue of virtually all seven thousand of the country's Jews. Meanwhile Sydney, in America, has led a group knitting for the war effort, and had a baby. In the decades to come, many people, especially their grown children, will wonder if these two very different people understand each other at all.

Wow you guys are really on top of these things! My day was so crazy today I'm just seeing these deets now and WOW! Just wow . I'm very excited about BRMC, Muse, Killers, Editors, Bon Iver and Thom Yorke, and almost even more excited to hear the rest of the bands since they are mostly new to me! Can't wait to hear it .

What did you think, Bee? That one is most definitely my fave film from last year. After sports yesterday I watched a few more episodes of 'Weeds' from the 2nd season.

I hope you like The Lost Book of Salem, Talisman! It was definitely one of my favorite reads this year. I was in Salem back in 2003 in the first week of October and man, talk about the Halloween capital of the world! I finished The Struggle, which was a very quick read for me, and am going back to Leeway Cottage by Beth Gutcheon. -
Without a doubt I would definitely rather travel. There are so many places I've yet to see and my desire for travel has never been stronger than it is now. I've been fortunate enough to be able to visit hundreds of places in North America, but have only been out of the country a handful of times and that annoys me to no end! One day soon though .

I've been listening to a lot of Bon Iver this afternoon and love this one- Re: Stacks This my excavation and today is kumran Everything that happens is from now on This is pouring rain This is paralyzed I keep throwing it down two-hundred at a time It's hard to find it when you knew it When your money's gone And you're drunk as hell On your back with your racks as the stacks are your load In the back and the racks and the stacks of your load In the back with your racks and you're un-stacking your load Well I've been twisting to the sun and the moon I needed to replace The fountain in the front yard is rusted out All my love was down In a frozen ground There's a black crow sitting across from me His wiry legs are crossed He is dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss Whatever could it be That has brought me to this loss? On your back with your racks as the stacks are your load In the back and the racks and the stacks of your load In the back with your racks and you're un-stacking your load This is not the sound of a new man or crispy realization It's the sound of the unlocking and the lift away Your love will be Safe with me

I like the sound of more Eric! The Emmy Awards are on TV tonight here and I just had a look at the nominees. Surprisingly, TB isn't up for one award! It just doesn't make sense to me. Nothing against shows like 'Big Love,' but I'd much rather see the TB folks get some recognition.

It does seem like forever to wait! I haven't seen any of the 2nd season yet though so that'll keep me occupied. My friend recorded it for me since they had a marathon last weekend so as soon as I can get them I'll be caught up with the rest of you. Can't wait to see more of Eric!
