What's Your Book Activity Today? - Take 7
Peacefield replied to Janet's topic in General Book Discussions
How did you find 1984, Dimitra? I hope you liked it . Have you read your ARC of Swan Thieves yet, Katrina? I seem to remember you getting that recently. I'm up to page 233 of Bitten, and have just about a hundred pages left. It's so action packed! Armstrong really knows how to write conflict and eventful happenings, unlike some other authors . Anyway, I'm really hoping to finish it today so I can lend it to my friend when I see her tonight. It's still morning here so wish me luck! -
Great review, CW! I completely agree with you about missing Edward and falling in love with he and Bella. Of course, I could always do with less Jacob, but that's just me and my team .

Glad you liked NM, Catwoman! You're planning on seeing the film I hope? I got up to about page 160 last night in 'Bitten,' and I just passed a sad bit . Also, I can't quite make up my mind about Clay. Like him or hate him?! -
Jeff Bridges is excellent, Ruth! The Big Lebowski is in my top ten faves .
-
I know I should wait and go see NM during the day too, but I couldn't stop myself! I'm easily swayed by sparklies, ugh. I can't wait to see Fantastic Mr. Fox, Dimitra! Anderson's one of my fave directors and I'm so excited to see it .

I saw a trailer last night for The Men Who Stare at Goats and it looks intriguing! I've added to my list of must-sees for the remainder of the year. It's directed by Grant Heslov, who in the past was a producer on 'Leatherheads' and 'Good Night and Good Luck,' so he obviously likes working with George Clooney! Oh, and I bought my tickets for New Moon this week, woo! Yes, I'm going to the midnight showing on Friday morning of the 20th of November. YAY! I must be crazy, and let's just hope there is no screaming tweens in my general vicinity!

He's very miss-able, Catwoman! Who knows what Meyer is thinking for her future books, but for now there are only 4 in the saga. Lots of us here are hoping she writes a series from Ed's POV, which she started but hasn't committed to finishing yet. I am loving Bitten so far, although I am only 100 and so odd pages in. Lots of people here love the whole 'Women of the Underworld' series so I'm sure you would get many recommendations including mine! Another series to get sucked into, but it's so fun! -

Awwww missing Edward! And yes, Catwoman, another two! With any luck, Meyer will snap out of it and keep going with them . I agree Frankie, I'd move on to the Slaughter books! I didn't read much of Bitten yesterday unfortunately, but hopefully I'll squeeze some in after my dinner out tonight. I'm loving it! -

Made my way to about page 120 of Bitten last night and am really enjoying myself! I'm trying to finish it so I can lend it to my friend on Sunday, but we'll see how motivated I can be . Today I was reading fan-fic before work. Does that count as activity?! -
Welcome, Sue! Glad you joined us .

Excellent, Kylie! I have the set, but I've only read the first 2 books for some reason. I need to read the rest since I love the story too . -

Yay for reading NM, Catwoman! I hope you get lots of reading of books done on your flights to/from the States . That's great you're getting the set of Anne books, Kylie! Have you read them before? I haven't done much reading today so far, but got to page 61 of 'Bitten' last night before falling asleep. Hopefully I'll squeeze in a bit more tonight, although I'm hitting the hay early since I'm up at 5am tomorrow, ugh. -

Oops, where'd I come up with 'casting' sugar?! Thanks, Inver! -

Those melting moments sound tasty, Kell! I'd never heard that name for a cookie before. Casting sugar is white or granulated sugar, right? I've not heard the term casting before . Thanks for the link to that site, Bethany! I also visit allrecipes.com, and they have baking and regular cooking recipes. The thing I like about that site is that people can comment on all the recipes and give suggestions about how to tweak them to make them better. I found my excellent hummus recipe on that site! -

I've only managed to read about 25 pages of Bitten today, but I'm loving it! It's very interesting so far, and is a change to read from this point of view instead of strictly 'human' if you know what I mean . -
Do! Do! Then we can share more Lost Book love .
-
Tandem-recommendation-reads, yay! A thanks guys, I can't wait to get into Bitten .

Ginger Snaps 172 grams butter (room temp) 229 grams brown sugar 1 egg 4 tablespoons molasses 1 rounded teaspoon ginger 459 grams flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cloves Granulated sugar (enough to roll the cookies in before baking) In a bowl, cream butter, sugar, egg and molasses. In another bowl sift flour, baking soda and spices. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine. Roll into 2.5cm balls and roll in the granulated sugar. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake at 176 C for 8-10 minutes. When I first starting baking these I played with the baking time a bit. I like them really soft, so I usually bake for 8 minutes, but obviously it depends on your oven. I've also found that I like using dark brown sugar for these, but either way they are yummy! -
I decided to put 'Shopaholic and Baby' aside for now. First because I read the first couple chapters and Becky's old tricks were just getting annoying to me. I keep thinking, come on, after 4 books having you not learned anything about the perils of too much shopping?! And second, because I found Bitten yesterday! I started reading it this morning .

That's too bad about your peanut butter cookies, Kell! Maybe there's not enough of a binder in it? I've never attempted anything flourless, but you'd think it would be an issue of butter or egg, hmm... I was going to post my ginger snap recipe, but just realized that I only have American measurements. I'll convert them quick and then post it . -

I convinced my friend to stop at 1/2 Price Books last night before we went to the show, and I'm so glad we did! He probably wasn't too excited since I did a mini-dance in the isle in front of some other peeps, but who cares, I was excited! Lexie and Gyre (and anyone else whose read this one), I found Bitten by Kelley Armstrong! A hardcover, and I completely lucked out because you guys were just talking about it yesterday and there you are it was on the shelf. I also was excited to find Susan Vreeland's The Forest Lover, and just because it was so cheap I bought the DVD of High Fidelity, one of my fave Cusack movies. -
