What are your first ten songs on iPod shuffle?
Peacefield replied to poppyshake's topic in Music / TV / Films
Excellent shows, BookJumper! I've seen all of them save for the Rocky Horror (I've only seen the film) and Eppy. I think my faves would have to be (in no particular order) Phantom, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Into the Woods, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Beauty and the Beast and Sunset Blvd. Oh! And Sunday in the Park with George - I love me some Steven Sondheim . -

Gotta love those show tunes, BookJumper! I almost started tearing up at my desk when I saw 'Bring Him Home' on your list, that is such a wonderful production! And honestly, is there anyone better out there to sing that song other than Colm Wilkinson?! What would you say your fave musicals are? -

I know what you mean about Jacob in Eclipse, Catwoman, I felt exactly the same way! Not my fave character, to put it mildly, but I did still enjoy the other parts of that book . Glad to see you'll be reading the Armstrong, too! I just finished that one not long ago and loved it. Now I'm reading her second one in the series and it's just as good. -
This one was the first to come to mind for me, since I just wrote it down in my new journal I keep in my bag (I write it in every journal I get ). From The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield: "Human lives are not pieces of string that can be separated out from a knot of others and laid out straight. Families are webs, impossible to touch one part of it without setting the rest vibrating. Impossible to understand one part without having a sense of the whole."

Well, no pressure, but I am full of confidence that you will love it . I look forward to seeing your review!

I think you seriously need to consider running to the 24 hour movie rental place (do they have those in London?!) and procure this film, BookJumper! It is amazingness and such a good film, truly . If you can't get it at 3am in the morning, try to make it your next film-seeing experience, okay? You won't regret it I promise!

He's one of my fave directors, BookJumper . He did 'Being John Malkovich' and 'Adaptation.' Have you seen either of those?
-
Spike Jonze, BookJumper. Spike Jonze . You can't go wrong!

I've finally been looking at my fall/winter 2009 film preview mag, and I found some more films I'm thinking about seeing: An Education - Screenplay was done by Nick Hornby, need I say more?! I don't know anything about the director Lone Sherfig, but I'm looking forward to this one. Nine - This one's directed by Rob Marshall and the screenplay was done by Anthony Minghella, plus it stars Daniel Day-Lewis and I'll see anything he does. Up In the Air - Directed by Jason Reitman, who I love for doing Juno. I also don't mind seeing George Clooney and Jason Bateman starring. Invictus - Directed by Clint Eastwood, and the story just looks amazing.

Ooh I'm jealous, Kylie! He's one of my favorites as well, and I never get tired of reading his works . When I took a road trip out east a few years ago we stopped in the town of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire where he lived for a short while, supposedly around the time he composed that poem. They now have a writer-in-residency program there and one lucky poet gets to live there every summer and work. -

I'm getting well into Stolen, and still loving it. I'm hoping to read some tonight but not sure since it's been a long day. Lexie, be sure to post your thoughts on Lost Book of Salem! I'm excited to hear . -
Smiths, Cure, Echo and Siouxsie were big bands for me back in high school, Jack. Great bands! I think I lived and breathed Robert Smith and company my senior year, in fact.

What do you stubbornly refuse to read, and why?

Ditto to what BookJumper said about King. She hit the nail on the head . Relatability to his characters isn't of utmost importance for me, but I can see hints of it to a very small degree. His imagination and the way he weaves a story just always attracted me. Maybe it was the age I was when I was first exposed to his books, who knows, but I think him to be one of a kind. -

Can I ask why you don't want to read any King, SueK? Just curious . I haven't read any King since the late 80's, but those old novels of his are really something special to me. I just think he is an amazingly talented writer (at least he was way back then), but that's just me . -
9 times out of 10 I mute commercials - they annoy me to no end! Seriously, I would marry the mute feature on my remote if I could. Regardless, I do love the eTrade baby commercials and laugh out loud every time I see one. I saw an 'outtake' recently with this little baby just bawling and making this face whist whining "I wanna punch this economy in the face!"

Wow, I just found this post of mine from 28 Nov 2008 . My goodness what can happen in a short year! I still have to read HP and LOTR, but obviously I've lost track of the Twilight re-reads. I still stick by my original post though, the only books I actively avoid are over-the-top romance novels with almost nude guys on the cover. They scream boring to me! Otherwise I'll read anything if the story sounds like something that would appeal to me, hype or no, regardless of what the author is like or what idea I have in my head on what a character should be. For me, it's all about finding new things . -
That is so neat, Chimera!! I've never seen that before .

Haven't read too much today, but have managed to get about 70 pages into Stolen. Very exciting right from the get-go! I just learned football doesn't start for another 2.5 hours, so I think I'll squeeze some more pages in... -

I'm so glad The Lady of Shalott and The Highwayman have been posted! Two of my favorites . Another favorite of mine that I've had memorized since I was in middle school- Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening Robert Frost- Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sounds the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. -
Hello and welcome to BCF, Julia! I can definitely recommend one of my favorite cosy series of the Jonathan Argyle mysteries by Iain Pears. There are 7 of them, all about modern-day art theft. I've re-read them several times .

Did Del Amitri sing 'Roll to Me' Janet? I used to love that song...
