  1. The Color Purple by Alice Walker. Brilliant book! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Color_Purple
  2. Or if she likes some slightly mystical stuff - Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin. But that's supernatural so might be a little off.
  3. Chiara, I'm super jealous of your job in a bookstore. If ever there was a recreational job... I'd love to manage books and stationary all day! When I was a kid I wanted to be a librarian so badly. I also wanted to be a farmer, though. Dreams change I guess. But books are awesome!
  4. Hi and welcome! Nice to have you here
  5. Yeah, I think they read way more than we give them credit for. I read so much when I was younger, but I didn't exactly advertise it because it wasn't "cool" to read when I was growing up. Now, however, it's becoming more and more accepted to be into stuff like vampires and anime. I think a lot of kids/teens read. At least the ones in my family and extended circle of people. In my group of friends growing up, at least half of us liked reading. I think all this fear of teens not reading is classic older-generation-worrying-about-younger-generation mentality.
  6. Rory's bday bash! The Rory drink!
  7. May I also suggest a translation of Scandinavia's Margit Sandemoe's great work - The Legend of the Ice People Don't let the strange-sounding name put you off. They are family oriented, there are HEAPS of them (47), they come with a supernatural evil twist (a blood line curse) but they are addictive and captivating and a great read. They include upper class / royalty as well as lower class.
  8. R.I.P. I enjoyed Dragonriders in my hardcore fantasy days. Good life work, Anne, and may whatever comes for you include some dragons. Friendly ones. That you can ride.
  9. Haha, I remember! I love that website, Andrea I used to wear a santa hat in the winter, always! It was actually pretty cute. And so festive.
  10. I survived another birthday weekend. Re-reading "Breaking Dawn"... no need to tell me.. pretty pathetic. :) but I love it.

  11. I giggled at the poem for lonely people. Boyfriend also giggled, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't enjoy poetrye. Could probably be analysed, if someone tried. Reminds me of an interview Douglas Adams gave to some sort of (atheist?) magazine. At the end of it, they asked if there was something he wanted to say to his fans. And he responded with, "Hello. How are you?" Sigh. Oh, Douglas. Why'd you leave us.
  12. thanks so much janet! I had a good time, albeit birthdays have lost some of their magic to me.

  13. thank you pickle! =D

  14. yay! thanks. =D I enjoyed turning 24... but, I am starting to feel old now

  15. She's nothing without him? That's a curious thing to say. Can I ask you to elaborate? I'm personally of the opinion that Bella is a blank sheet of paper, a shell of a character for Stephenie Meyer & co to project their own personalities into. Still, how would her state of depression when he left her be a reason to stick with him forever and ever?
  16. I enjoy the word meander =D
  17. I love community channel <3. Incredibly entertaining Australian girl. She's been in a bit of a funk lately and hasn't uploaded much, because she's been going through a breakup and it's taking her a while to cope. Nevertheless, I love her
  18. Yes, yes, yes. I didn't get hugely into them until the third book though. And I read them as a kid. But I still love them, and read them.
  19. If you're interested in animals and endangered species, I'd recommend Douglas Adams' "Last Chance To See", where he does a tour of rare places to look for rare animals and tell anecdotes about it as he carries on.
  20. That article made me so happy! I hope somewhere, wherever he is, he knows this is being published. Can't wait to read it.
  21. Can I recommend "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!" by the amazing Richard Feynman. It's well explained and an easy read, mostly in the area of physics and biology and a number of anecdotes from the life of a scientist. He was an incredibly intelligent man, and a nobel prize winner to boot. Reeeaaaaad iiiiiiitttt *does star wars jedi mind trick sign*
  22. I wouldn't, unless I was trying to get pregnant. It's just the flu. edit: unless you've got something that makes it necessary, of course ^^ like weave. Kell: the vaccine produces the symptoms of the flu, like Michelle said.
  23. This is a book!? I only knew about the animated movie based on the video game series I used to play..... who is the author?
