  1. I have a question for everyone. I'm compiling a bit of an Autumn playlist, and I was wondering, which songs make you think of Autumn? They don't have to be Autumn-themed, necessarily, but which songs make you feel quiet inside, as though you are waiting for something, you know? Like the world is holding its breath before King Winter comes. So far I have Landslide by Fleetwood Mac and the cover version of Such Great Heights as performed by Iron and Wine. Autumn Blues - a list by BCF 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac 'Such Great Heights' by Iron & Wine 'Letter To Hermione' ~ David Bowie 'Empty Hand' ~ Eliza Doolittle 'I Only Have Eyes For You' ~ Art Garfunkel 'Bless The Weather' ~ John Martyn 'Weather With You' ~ Crowded House 'Breathe Me' by Sia 'The Quiz' by Hello Saferide 'New Romantic' by Laura Marling Samson by Regina Spektor Hallelujah by Gin Wigmore The World Can Wait by Over the Rhine These Are the Days by Van Morrison Autumn in New York by Ella Fitzgerald Moonlight In Vermont by Ella Fitzgerald Wishful Thinking by Claire Martin You Have Lived in Autumn by Blossom Dearie Autumngirlsoup by Kirstie MacColl Don Henley - The End of the Innocence Dobie Gray - Drift Away Sting - Fields of Gold Lazy Sunday - The Small Faces Seven Days - Sting Wake me up when September ends - Green Day Life's What You Make It - Talk Talk Children of the Revolution - Kirsty MacColl
  2. This is a great idea. I might join you!
  3. I'm just starting part 3 of this book. It's playing out to be put on my "favourites" shelf. I'm enjoying it more than any other book I've read all summer. Thank you so much for this review, if it wasn't for it I never would have read it!
  4. Noah's a great name. I'm kinda baby crazy personally... can't wait to have children in a while! Welcome to the forum
  5. Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons is written about the Lion in the Wizard of Oz
  6. I highly enjoyed the wikipedia list, and the fictional volumes invented by Douglas Adams. Oh, Douglas. Why'd you leave us. You and Oolon had still so much to give.
  7. I don't think so. The book wasn't cyberpunk, not by my definition anyway. Maybe borderline. But the movie sure was.
  8. Hahah. The movie is awesome, I really enjoyed it. You kind of have to "get" it though - it plays on folk stories. Troll myths, like how trolls can smell a Christian man's blood, and turn to stone in sunlight, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Billy_Goats_Gruff this short Norwegian fairy tale.
  9. Beyond fitting. Sorry for your loss :( I'm a big fan of watership down, I saw the movie as a kid and read the book after... Very touching stuff, good life philosophy. poetic.

  10. I love your signature! goes well with my username...

  11. I've read Room and the Hunger Games trilogy lately. Just getting into Boy's Life now - thank you for the recommendation! I'm captivated by the introduction and his explanation of a magical world.
  12. Sci fi for everyone! Do you like the cyber punk genre? It's kind of gritty sci-fi, drugs and body moderation, that kind of thing. William Gibson's Neuromancer is a great start. It's a really cool genre. Includes Matrix and Blade Runner, if that's your thing.
  13. I badly want to read Jane Austen Book Club. I hear it's great. I read Pride & Prejudice and Zombies, and was terribly disappointed, though.
  14. Austen! Love her. Welcome to the forum!
  15. Hey! I'm a bit of a King fan myself, but not as excessive as some. What's your favourite of his? Welcome to BCF
  16. Great favourite book Never too late to start reading! Welcome.
  17. The kindle can skip from chapter to chapter with just one simple click. I think it's really easy.
  18. Okay... now every band it suggests to me is Johnny Flynn. I just entered Shakira, Rihanna and Lady Gaga to test the thing, and it gave me Johnny Flynn. That's a little weird.
  19. KindleWorm - Adams himself admitted that he revised and re-revised his wording, with plenty of help from his editors! I think he was something of a perfectionist when it came to comedic literary timing! He's said that his first drafts often were rough with only the idea of the joke contained in them. So, very nicely observed on your part.
  20. Jet lag for the effing win! Here I am, wide awake, 3 am... stupid. stupid. stupid. One week and counting. On the other hand, I've listened to tons of new music. Currently loving Foo Fighters.

  21. If you like sci fi, I suggest Player of Games and Excession by Iain M. Banks, in that order. They're superb, definitely psychological too. Fantastic books. Edit: Give you a bit of info too; the Culture books (among are the ones I mentioned above) are about a hyperintelligent society that they refer to as a level 8 society. They've achieved space travel and sentient computers and live in apparent happiness. And then you have the people on the fringes and in the cracks, mixing things up a little and making it interesting. Throw in some other societies with less outstanding morals and ethics, ships taking matters into their own hands as well as people being treated like pieces in a puzzle and you've got yourself something definitely worthwhile. I'm not a huge fan of everything Banks has done, but I love Excession and Player of Games.
  22. Haven't read him, but I want to. Douglas Adams listed him in an article as his favourite writer. So he must be top notch.
  23. I'm watching season 3 again! Possibly my fave season actually... On episode 3, and the Rory and Jess drama is magnificent.
