  1. I went to circuit training yesterday (where you do one strength exercise after another) and now I hurt. I hurtss. But it feels good.
  2. Bree, what an amazing picture. You look like a woman with a lot of secrets, the kind of person you'd want to read about! I love how the sharp, somewhat mischievous look on your face contrasts with the protective way you're holding your child. I realise I'm going on about it now, but... you're beautiful. Where were you? edit: sorry if that's weird. I'm a little weird.
  3. I know, I was stunned (at her reaction, at her apparent nonchalance, at her clearly implied smirk to another girl about how dumb I was for even wanting to chat about the book). She's not a friend of mine, I barely know her outside of common classes. The party was at her house, is all. What a loss and a waste. Pearls before swine comes to mind.
  4. So yesterday I was at a classmate's house for a friend's baby shower. That was really great, but halfway through the party I notice something on her shelf. It's a very battered French copy of Les Miserables. I open it carefully, and what do you know - A FIRST EDITION. (Tome Premiere) I approach her, awe in my eyes, and ask her about it and tell her that I am a huge (HUGE) fan. She waves a hand, smiles dismissivey and says, "oh yeah, my Dad gave me that when I started studying political science. I like the cover, but whatever." And then she shrugs and giggles (presumably at the thought of something as silly as a first edition French novel). WHAT THE BLURGH? I'm so jealous. To make this more than a rant: do you own any special books?
  5. Hiya guys and gals, How are you all doing? I just signed up for a year and a half of gym, and I've been going pretty much every day since the holidays (5 day streak now). Going to take a break today and go again tomorrow! It's all pre-paid so now I'll hopefully feel I have to go, always. For those of you who struggle with eating inappropriately at times, may I once again suggest myfitnesspal.com? It's a wonderful tool that you can download on your iphone/smartphone/pc, and it has an extensive and supportive community if you struggle plus LOTS of good ideas etc. For instance, it turned me on to this site: www.skinnytaste.com <-- may sound lame but I made the cajun chicken and it was really good. Anyways I'd really love an update from everyone (I'm looking at you, Nollaig ) edit: just to stress: by "really good" I mean I think it's the best meal I have ever made.
  6. The first one is called "A Game of Thrones" - the series is called A song of Ice and Fire. They are good. Very good, very well written.. But they are long, and can be slow. The Hunger Games you will blow through well in time for the film. That being said, I vastly prefer them to The Hunger Games. But be prepared - once you complete the 5th book, you might be in for a wait for the 6th book. George RR Martin does not rush.
  7. Oh joy! Glad to be back. :)

I went to Egypt. It was surreal. And then I come back and my beloved board wasn't here, nooo :( I hope you've been well!

  8. Started on the Lions of Al-Rassan. Going through a Guy Gavriel Kay phase.
  9. I've been really bad lately. Tomorrow, I'm starting afresh! No more candies and munching for me. No more cookies just because "it's just one". I could use a good talking-to, actually... I'm supposed to strive to be healthy. Instead, I've been out with a cold and eating anything and everything just because I've felt so tremendously sorry for myself.
  10. Book at a time. I like feeling like I deserve the next one once I've ploughed through the previous.
  11. Revenge. It's compelling, somehow.
  12. I turn corners down, and I am not ashamed of it. I like looking back, knowing I've "been there". I like reading a book who had someone else turn down the corner and imagine what they thought or felt at that point.
  13. I get this. I really do. When I lived at home a few years ago, I would get completely absorbed in books while I read. Yet, for some reason, my parents thought it was a-okay to talk to me, give me instructions, ask me questions CONSTANTLY while I was submerged in my worlds of fiction. Annoying much? Very much. It would escalate, sometimes, too. I'm not one to let things lie, so when patiently explaining that I didn't want to chit-chat didn't have much of an effect, I would tell my Mum (it was usually her) sharply that I was trying to focus and she was disturbing me. And when that STILL wouldn't sink in, I'd be mad. And then she'd get offended and act like I was making a big deal out of nothing, when to me, it wasn't nothing. Oh well.
  14. I baked oreo cupcakes and had a ton of cream cheese filling left over, and I got declined for a job I wanted so I ate the filling with a spoon... tsktsktsktsk. But I weigh the same. So that's good I guess. Pontalba and BookGeek: Awesome! What are your goal weights? What are everyone's goal weights, incidentally?
  15. Hiya, I'm about 15% into A Song for Arbonne now! Just thought I'd tell you. I've noticed some of the lists and suggestions you've made about the forum - seems your taste has a tendency to mimick mine. Or maybe it's the other way around. Anyway, you suggested ASfA, and it seems to be at the same level of quality as his other work. Similar in style, though. Same effects used to draw you in, I think. It kind of makes me feel a little apprehensive - I'm worried I'l...

  16. What kind of sci-fi have you enjoyed before? Ender's Game by Orson Scott Carr is of course the archetypal first contact book. It's got the elements you were looking for with added depth. The thing is, it's hard to find a straight-forward sci-fi book.. they all seem to have a dark undercurrent of sorts. Sounds to me like what you're looking for is a good space western story. I'm not entirely well-versed in that genre, with the lovely exception of Firefly. But that's a TV show.
  17. As a lover of dystopian and young adult fiction I shall pursue and read this!
  18. I can't picture DiCaprio as Gatsby, either. It is too far removed from the Gatsby in my head. That being said, great actors have surprised me before. I hope he does. edit: He'll need to really embody the character, really comprehend him, in order for this to work. Anything but the deepest understanding won't cut it, I think. Maybe that's harsh but it is a great book and I hope he really strives to do it justice... If he can truly make Gatsby come to life, he'll be quite the artist. If not, that'll be just another movie I'll never recommend to anybody.
  19. I cry at everything, so no big surprise my list of books that make me cry is long. I lastly cried at the second Fionavar book, when A book that really made me cry was "On the beach" by Nevil Shute, and also "the five people you meet in heaven" when
  20. I was about to ask where that was, Brian, but of course it had to be Las Vegas! Some friends of mine are going there over winter break - very jealous Was it cool?
  21. There's an exchange student in my class named Andrea from Italy! Are you him? welcome
  22. Karsa, I was at the CN tower this summer! Scary eh? I stepped on the glass floor too. After some persuasion. Looking at the dresses is making me excited for summer! Floral patterns are my favourite
  23. I've been exercising a lot lately and it feels really good. I'm not extremely motivated so I'm so very happy for the gym just up the street, which has classes. I kind of feel lazy even when I work out, because I don't push myself - I just follow instructions. But I've relaxed on the whole eating thing. I'm sticking to sweets once a week, but I'm allowing myself to feel full and so on after meals.... and to eat when I'm hungry. I took the EAT24 test and scored 22 so I'm thinking I shouldn't obsess over this. June: One binge won't make you gain much of anything, as long as you return to your normal eating habits after!
  24. Just applied for a job in Oslo... As an actual doctor! Omg.. need to NOT get my hopes up. (OSLO)
