  3. Hello Emm! Welcome to BCF
  4. Right now, I'm in the state where I pick up classic books or books that are generally regarded as great books. Or if I've read something else from the writer and like it, I'll try more of his works. It's just that there are so many books in a bookstore, that it's better to know what are you looking for and not search random. Besides, one can't buy endless books, he has to choose which he prefers to try.

  6. Nah, same here.
  7. Welcome, Shelley! It would be great if you let us know some of your favorite books or authors too.
  8. Me, I love all 6.
  9. Does the original scroll have any changes or details missing from the original? If so, please let me know!
  10. I would have probably added more by Williams, but I couldn't find summaries that don't contain spoilers.
  11. Except for the Marabar Caves-and they are 20 miles off-the city of Chandrapore presents nothing extraordinary. A Passage To India by E.M.Forster

  13. I finished it some days ago. I can't say I was impressed. It wasn't bad, but I didn't thought it was great either. The book's meanings were great and very important, but the plot was somewhat boring, it never really gave you the feeling "Oh, I'm eager to see what happens next! As of the film, I think that it can't really be adapted successfully by anyone because, like I said, the heart of the story isn't found in the plot, but in its meanings. So, it will probably be boring or something like that.
  14. So, I noticed yesterday that there was no thread about Steinbeck or the books I've read from him, so I thought I would make a general one about the author. I've read East Of Eden and The Grapes Of Wrath. I loved East of Eden and liked TGOW too, but I thought that the first one was better. In EOE, he deals with the nature of good and evil in this Salinas Valley saga. The story follows two families: the Hamiltons - based on Steinbeck's own maternal ancestry - and the Trasks, reprising stories about the Biblical Adam and his progeny. TGOW is set in the Great Depression and describes a family of sharecroppers, the Joads, who were driven from their land due to the dust storms of the Dust Bowl. His style of writing is unique. He has a great way of picturing his characters, and most importantly the times they live in. Throughout his books, he dedicates some chapters in describing the changes in society. If anyone has read any of his works, he may want to discuss it here.
  15. Yeah, the book doesn't exactly has the reputation of likable characters. I couldn't stand Linton either. The only person I thought was truly likable was Hareton. You noticed that, too?
  16. I wrote my thoughts about On The Road in the book-related thread, if you'd like to see it. And thanks about the advice on Dorian Gray, I pretty much thought the same thing, that it may get better.

  17. I just finished it today and I thought it was a very good read. To begin with:it is not an easy book. It's not the kind of book you can read all day long, it took me sometime. Probably because it's not a single journey, they're on-the-road again, off-the-road again and it goes all over. It is very well-written, the landscapes and the people are being presented vividly. I liked the honesty of the writer. I only have mixed feelings about Dean Moriarty's character, he's one of those people whose personality is too complex to fully understand. Overall, I think it's worth reading.
  18. Welcome to BCF!
  19. You should read more of these, there are some great books in the list.
  20. I find him more attractive than Fiennes, so it's totally subjective. Anyway, what I don't get is why they never cast someone who matches the book description. He is supposed to look like (or be) a gypsy. And Heathcliff was supposed to be quite tall, Ed is pretty normal. Well, the best thing we can do is to wait for the final result. I think the most important thing is to have a script faithful to the book and in the spirit of the book if you know what I mean. We'll see...
  21. Hello, !
  22. You know, it'd be a good idea to hide key plot points in spoiler lines, in case someone wants to read it, I don't think he'd like to know what happens in the end.
  23. Hey, listen! I just checked in IMDB the 2010 version I was telling you about, and there is a change in the leads! Instead of Abbie Cornish and Michael Fassbender, Catherine and Heathcliff will be played by Gemma Arterton and Ed Westwick!
  24. He was complicated.
