  1. Hello Victoria and welcome - there was a TV series many years ago called Anne of Green Gables which was fantastic to watch - I can't remmember if I read the books though - I may well have done (senior moment here!)
  2. I see Librarything is down for the time being
  3. Oooh! Never!! My son does this all the time - I can't believe it!! It spoils the story.
  4. Thanks for that - you do learn something every day!!
  5. Hello David - may I ask - what is lulu??
  6. Have struggled with 'This Book Will Save Your Life'. I now have to choose my next read carefully - I have 3 other Maggie O'Farrells now and I think I am going to pick up one of those
  7. That is so great Maureen - it's the key to everything. My son is an avid reader however daughter has not got the bug although she can read fluently - maybe one day...
  8. Same here Carm! I have dragged hubby along to one and mum to another and they both loved it. The best time was when I went to the Albert Hall with another fan whom I met at ante natal classes. By the time the concert came we both had v young babies and left our families to it!! And then leaked milk all the way home!!
  9. Hello Moussecake!
  10. I can take a folded down page or two as well - I don't do it to other peoples books though - husband also looks on with disapproval especially if I put my book face down and open!
  11. Judy - I do love the Precious Ramotswe books (don't you just love her name? You can see her right there can't you? In the sweltering heat.) Must push the remaiing ones I haven't read up the TBR pile.
  12. I have looked at the website but not joined in - I must identify some books for release and register
  13. Thanks Bagpuss - will look out for this for holidays
  14. I haven't really thought about it - I will have to check during the day. At night in bed I lay on my right side and read (and fall asleep) but I have no idea which hands I use!!
  15. I have seen Lion King twice with my kids and we were all mesmerised. My son Philip who is 14 belongs to a local musical theatre group and attends every week - their latest production is Guys and Dolls for July. It will be a great surprise as he wont say which part he has or anything about it. Last summer it was Hairspray which was fantastic
  16. Beautiful garden Judy
  17. Have u tried dried mango? Chewy but yummy. Is it really that fattening Nici - I was thinking it has to be better than chocolate.
  18. A beauty of a cake Nici!! I have discovered Tesco dried bananas to nibble - look terrible but are really scrummy!
  19. Wellspelling exactly - but they are bestsellers so somebody is buying them - who?
  20. I don't choose horror books now - I have read some books in the past that have chilled me to the bone but have kept on reading them mainly because they were well written and because I want to know that everything comes good in the end. 'Misery' by Stephen King is a book that I could hardly bear to read but carried on - it was truly horrific and played on my mind afterwards and similarly 'Cujo'. Horrible but so readable. Now I am older I veer away from this genre - I can't cope with it
  21. What did you think of Queen Mum?
  22. In Tesco this morning I noticed that Katie Price has another paperback on the Bestseller shelf. It has never crossed my mind to pick up her books (perhaps I should) and I have often wondered who does buy and read them? Are they any good? Well they must be mustn't they? Thousands can't be wrong. In a similar vein I have never looked inside Victoria Beckham's last tome (it was sealed with cellophane after all). What am I missing? Am I just too old?
  23. Hello karen and welcome
