  1. Welcome Charley - you' re not from BB are you?
  2. Thanks sib - sounds the sort of book I enjoy
  3. Mine not arrived either!!
  4. Hi Busy great to see you here. I have read a few JP books and in fact picked up a second hand copy of 'Tenth Circle' yesterday. I am not her no 1 fan, bit formulaic but a good interesting read.
  5. Has it arrived yet Judy!!?
  6. At 660 pages it's going to be a while....
  7. Finished Barbara Trapido - 'Noah's Ark'. Very enjoyable - Again Trapido visits and uses characters from S Africa although this book is set in Cambridgeshire. There are strong characters and family relationships and these are explored in depth. The main character Ali is annoyingly dippy and indecisive. Now picked up a challenge! Started and read 50 pages already of 'The Clan of the Cave Bear' by Jean Auel. A departure from my usual genre and suggested by Nici. So far so good. Here is the blurb - The heroine Ayla, is a courageous and indomitable young woman whose story begins when she is a 5 years old orphan adopted by the Clan, a group of Neanderthals. Ayla inspires first surprise, then wariness and finally acceptance by the clan. She is cared for by its medicine woman Iza and its wise holy man Creb. But she makes an implaccable enemy of the group's future leader. Broud does all he can to destroy her, but Ayla is a survivor. It's almost 600 pages!!
  8. I don't have mine either Mia:smile2:
  9. oh and talk of the devil - he is just appeared on 'Mock the Week' which I am now watching!!
  10. I just looked him up on Wikipedia - I don't know how to attach details - I know who you mean now - he looks like that Tory MP who got thrown out for a sex scandal annd now talks about football on the radio - can't think of his name. He is a good comedy actor
  11. It must be a comedian withthe same name
  12. Never seen on telly but he wrote a book I read recently called 'Black Swan Green' which was pretty fab. Is this the person you mean?
  13. Hello and welcome
  14. They have offered the deal - so if the book is indigestible, boring, pretentious or even great I think we should say so. They haven't stipulated having qualifications to review so I don't suppose there is much they can do except charge you the price of the book. And then I suppose you can always say it was impossible to read and I want my money back... this is me thinking out loud
  15. Thanks Paula - sounds good.
  16. Sorry Essiotrot but no deal!!!
  17. It's me who has 'The Spy Who Loved Me':smile2:
  18. I am not particularly keen to read 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and I am prepared to swap PDR.Obviously only if you want it! Is the VW a big fat book? Is it a good read for someone of average intellect?
  19. Ah gowon gowon gowon FA! Feel the pain with the rest of us
  20. My daughter is engrossed in this book this week which is unusual in itself and it must be good! Since we saw the show my children have been entranced by the music soundtrack, bought the CD and play it every night on their respective players (and in the car). I love this show for the impact it had on all of us. I have put the book on my TBR list.
  21. Tee Hee!! And we shall all read it seriously!
  22. Thank you Nici! Not my usual read but rather mine than yours Judy!! Oh Michelle!!
  23. I got 'The Spy Who Loved Me' is that a James Bond? - is that a classic? I am going to struggle with it - hope it's thin!!!
  24. Hello Anne and welcome!
