  1. Only 1 at a time for me - I would feel too guilty to start another before I have finished one!
  2. Finished 'Yummy Mummy' - a first book by Polly Williams - chick lit of the mediocre kind - has to have a happy ending reminding me of the fim 'Love Actually'. Recommended for light holiday reading for those who like books about early motherhood and relationships. Moved to Julie Myerson - 'Not a Games Person' - a smaller than average hardback book documenting Julie's schooldays. This book caught my eye in a charity shop as the author writes for the Guardian and I have enjoyed reading her articles in the past. Also she is about the same age as myself so I should be able to empathise with her anecdotes.
  3. We have all the above in our house too Judy! Read by eldest Philip over the last few years. Haven't been tempted myself yet but I did take Philip to see 'His Dark Materials' at the South Bank 2 years ago (6 hours!) and enjoyed it immensely.
  4. From Esme Lennox read very quickly to The Rise and fall of a Yummy Mummy' by Polly Williams. From quality to.... how should I say mediocre? Can't wait to finish because of course I can't abandon.
  5. Yes - when Kitty starts talking in a disjointed fashion I initially wondered what was going on and had to reread some bits.
  6. Bagpuss, what a marvellous review! I cannot express myself as well as that - you hit the mark - the book makes you deeply reflect on your childrens birth experiences and parenting skills
  7. What is the problem Nici?
  8. okay I am obviously not so cool - what is mojo? Apart from a sweet I used to eat as a kid. I presume its something about motivation for reading? I am a plodder, I read every day and just plod on with whatever I have selected to read - I would rarely stop reading something - last one I abandoned was 'The Undomestic Goddess' - contrived and dull - how did it stay at No 1 bestseller list for so long?

    hello

    Hello and welcome Carm
  10. I paid up about 2 months ago - without looking at my Mastercard bill I think it converted to about
  11. I think so. I expected something high brow and intellectual and it was so far from that it was hard to believe. I wonder if anyone else has read a whole book of hers?
  12. Initially I liked her and then felt sorry for her for being conformist to the demands of the society she was part of. My feelings changed when she did not support her sister and then to dislike when she did nothing to help her sister in the asylum apart from take her baby.
  13. Just going to have a look at the group!
  14. I have a weird thing about print size and spacing. Certain books will put me off because of that and I won't enjoy it as much. There are times when I will read a paperback edition of a book that I wouldn't touch as a hardback. I remember once borrowing an Ann Widdecombe book from the library, it was terrible - I didnt get past the second chapter. Her writing was juvenile and totally unrealistic - I couldn't continue
  15. Is this the man married to Maureen Lipman who wrote 'The Evacuees' among others? If so must also look for a copy.
  16. I read every evening before going to sleep sometimes quite late. I am currently trying to read at points during the day as well.
  17. I wonder if it's because of a different publisher or ISBN number?
  18. If you click onto one of your books the 'social data' words appear - scroll down to the bottom of the page and it will list how many and who has the same book as you!
  19. Its called The 'Triplet Diaries' by Jackie Clune - a documntary about her pregnancy, birth and the first year of having triplets. I enjoyed it very much but obviously not everybody does!
  20. Has anyone got a book listed on Librarything that nobody else has got? I have one!
  21. Yes I agree. I gave it to hubby to read thinking it was the kind of book he liked and he read about a quarter and gave up!
  22. I read this last year and I had to concentrate and work hard to read it - I liked the way it was written - I thought it was very clever - I had to reread lots of bits because of her use of English. It was one of the best books I have read recently - it made me think deeply about parenting but then I do that anyway!! I also read another of her books about tennis, a bit dull...
