This is the magical story of Santiago, a shepherds boy who dreams of travelling the world to seek the most wonderful treasures known to man. From his home in Spain, he journey's to the markets of Tangiers and from there, into the Egyptian desert, where a fateful encounter with the alchemist awaits him. This looks absolutely brilliant, anyone else read it? Quote

I did enjoy it very much; if I'm honest I enjoyed it all the way through, I don't really understand why I got stuck. I guess the plot was a little bit hard to follow at some points. I haven't read it, but it's on my Around The World challenge list, so I shall be reading it at some point this year I think, so let me know what you think of it! (Coming shortly) Hmm, still not sure about this, it wasn't bad, and it wasn't brilliant. Sometimes it was hard to get into, but then once I was into it I found it quite enjoyable. Not sure.. Synopsis from the back of the book. Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wander, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human; the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met.
