So here's my final tally for the weekend:

Novels - complete

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole - 394 pages, fiction

Time Traveler by Dr. Ronald L. Mallet - 198 pages, non-fiction

The Solitary House by Lynn Shepherd - 334 pages, mystery

The Man Who Ended the World by Jason Gurley - 270 pages, science fiction

Novels - incomplete

Ports of Call by Jack Vance - 38 pages, science fiction

The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper - 1 chapter, classic literature

Short Stories - complete

The Dark Age by Jason Gurley - 31 pages, science fiction

The Caretaker by Jason Gurley - 41 pages, science fiction

The Last Rail-Rider by Jason Gurley - 38 pages, science fiction

The Sky Used to be Blue by Patrice Fitzgerald - 63 pages, science fiction

My original goal for myself was 1,000 pages.  At over 1,400, I'm pretty pleased with how I did.  Quite unexpected, because I had a hard time settling into what I wanted to read.  I really had a lot of fun reading this weekend and I hope everyone else did, too!  :) Now for the reviews...

Well, all in all, I read 90 pages of 1492 and 600 pages of NOS4A2.  I don't know how many hours I spent, but it seems I can read about 90pages an hr.  Not as many as Athena  I only have 35 pages of NOS4A2 left, but I just can't finish.  My eye is hurting lol

600 pages of one piece is a lot!!!  I don't think I'd have the discipline for that; I tend to skip from thing to thing.  And you're right, Athena is a mad-fast reader!  I wonder if she's taken a speed-reading course...

I'm curious about NOS4A2 & can't wait to read your review.  Just the title has me wondering!

Thanks you both for the compliments :blush2:. I've never followed a speed-reading course, I've read lots of books since I was able to and after a few years was able to read really fast. Maybe it has something to do with how my brain works, I don't know . I seem to be able to read some books much faster than others, it also depends on how tired I am.

Here's my progress:

Sunday 09-03-2014

2 h 40 mins, 236 pages, J. K. Rowling - Harry Potter 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I didn't read a lot on Sunday. I was feeling really mentally tired for most of the day so I didn't read so much. It was a real shame because I did want to read, I just couldn't (couldn't do much else either).

Total this read-a-thon: 8 h 25 mins, 1060 pages, 7.5 books read

Overall I didn't read as much as I'd wanted or as I'd hoped. Friday was a very successful day, Saturday and in particular Sunday I was very tired and so had to rest a lot. Some important things needed doing as well so I worked on that too. I'm going to call Friday a success but the other two days a fail. I've done better in previous read-a-thons. But, I did read some great books so that's good :). I read seven books which is quite some, and I read half of Harry Potter 6.

The next read-a-thon will take place on 4th 5th 6th of April. This is also when they're doing roadworks and railworks near here so it may be noisy.. we'll have to see.

EDIT: Thank you Frankie for your kind comments :).

As usual I didn't time my read-a-thon this weekend, but here's how I got on:

Friday- 0 pages read

Saturday- 'The Moment' by Douglas Kennedy 74 Pages

Sunday- 'The Moment' by Douglas Kennedy 228

Total Number of Pages Read: 302

It's possibly not as impressive as some of the others who participated in the read-a-thon, but I think it's a record for me!

The fact that it's a record for you, means you did really well :)! It's not a race of who can read the most pages or the most hours, what matters is that we have fun :friends3:. Did you have fun?

I did actually, I found that I was having trouble, putting the book that I'm reading at the moment down!

  • 3 weeks later...

The weekend of 4th 5th 6th of April is the next read-a-thon. So it's not today / this weekend, but next week. I'm excited about it already and have the usual pile of books lined up (I added some books about books, such as The Library of Unrequited Love by Sophie Divry, that I might read (I can take a photo of the pile if anyone likes to see). Will anyone be joining me next weekend? Yay for reading :readingtwo::exc:.

Haha, just a few minutes ago I thought, too bad it's not this weekend! Somehow I always seem to have the most time and the most interest in this the weekend before! I will have to see what happens next week...

By the way, Athena, I've happened to notice you seem to offentimes choose short reads for the read-a-thon? Is this by coincidence or do you choose short reads for some specific reason? :)

I'm happy you are thinking of reading The Library of Unrequited Love for the read-a-thon! I hope it's good... It's bound to be good, isn't it?

Edit: Oh yes, always happy to see pics of books! :D

 that's quite funny.. you could always have a read-a-thon to yourself this weekend if you feel like reading lots?

I tend to read shorter books for the read-a-thon, because with a long epic story with lots of characters my mind needs to rest a lot and thus I'd spend less time reading and more time processing. I like to read the short books because it makes me feel I'm making more progress. Also I don't normally read many short books because when I have more time during a day I prefer to read a bigger book. Hmm, I don't know if it makes sense. I kind of started off with reading shorter books of various genres and have kept doing so.

Here's the photo I just made :

EDIT: Clearly I'll not be reading this whole pile. But of each 'series type of book' I hope to be reading at least one (so I'll be reading one Roald Dahl book at least).

That is true, but it's not quite the same... I mean it's not as much fun without the company! :D

No, I do think that it definitely makes sense. One doesn't want to make one's brain explode during a read-a-thon! So it's better to go with the shorter books if that feels better. And I do agree about it feeling like one's making more progress with shorter books.

Nice pile! Book porn :blush::wub:

If I can finish Dune over the weekend, I can then Finish Zen, during the week. Then I can also read some short books like my John Wyndham.
