  1. I love these too. Unfortunately the movies don't seem to be shown here much. I think I've seen two, but I'd love to see more. Some of the books I've read more than once.
  2. Finished Tokyo by Mo Hayder last night. I'm still trying to decide what I thought of it. Edit: I'm picking up Cockroaches by Jo Nesbo from the library today. I've been waiting to get to the top of the reserve list for that since December.
  3. Cockalorum - a self important little man.
  4. Finished The Winter of our Discontent by John Steinbeck.
  5. I read The five people you meet in heaven last year and loved it. I hope you enjoy it. I've been meaning to read A Clockwork Orange for years. Bumping it up my wishlist now.
  6. I read Clan of the Cave Bear and Valley of the Horses last year. The first one was the best. Valley of the Horses was ok, but not as good. I'm going to keep going with the series, as a few members on here have said the third one is a lot better.
  7. Finished Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson on Friday. WOW! What a fantastic book.
  8. I hope your boyfriend finds a good job quickly Lucybird. Since he didn't like his job, it may turn out to be for the better, especially if he gets the job from the email.
  9. My daughter has to read some short stories for school and she's free to choose which ones. Can anyone recommend any short stories similar to Nicholas Sparks' books? She's recently discovered his books and loves them. I don't read short stories so I haven't a clue.
  10. I got this from the library this week. I read it years ago, and always intended to reread it one day. I remember it being a very thoughtprovoking read.
  11. I found a charity shop in town that had books for 50c each today. And they had The Girl with the dragon tattoo so I snapped it up, and a few others as well.
  12. You're lucky you can get your study done so quickly. I'm studying by correspondence at the moment. Its supposed to take about 15 hours a week, but it takes me a lot more than that to keep up. Probably at least 40. I'm only doing one paper at a time, I don't think I could keep up with more than that, since I have two kids to think about too.
  13. I finished the Diane Chamberlain on Friday. I loved it, one of the best books I've read in a while. I hope you enjoy it.
  14. We get a lot of quakes here too Anna. Our city has three fault lines running through it. I've never felt anything like the one on Monday. They're still finding buildings with cracks etc as it was a public holiday when it happened. My son said their school hall was damaged. Luckily school is on holidays until February. I'll have to try that Vicks thing next time I have a cough. If I remember it.
  15. We had a VERY large earthquake here yesterday. Magnitude 6.3 and it was fairly shallow. Some stuff fell off shelves in our house, but nothing broken. There is damage to chimneys and roads where we live, and some cliffs fell down. We get a lot of quakes, but this one was VERY scary. My daughter now won't stay home alone. Hopefully after a few days she'll feel better. She was actually out by herself at a supermarket, and that really scared her. This is the third big one we've had since August and all of them she's been away from me when they've happened, so that's really affected her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9ByBu1iOXk This video is at a greyhound track only about 3 kms from my house. There have been quite a few aftershocks, so we're all really jumpy still.
  16. I started Mercy by Jodi Picoult last night, but struggled to get into it. Not sure if it was just me after the events of yesterday, or if it's just not as good as her others.
  17. I finished Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck earlier this week. I wish I'd tried his books earlier, he's a brilliant writer. Just found out my library has finally got the first three Jo Nesbo books after having the later ones for a while. So I've requested Cockroaches. I'm 11th in line, so hopefully won't take too long to get. I got some money for my birthday and yesterday found some Ian Rankin books for $5 each. I've never seen brand new books that cheap before. Earlier in the day I'd been looking in a second hand book shop and they wanted $9 for them!! I snapped up four of them that I didn't have. Just wish there'd been more of them available.
  18. I just started reading this last night. Not far in yet, but already loving it.
  19. One of the supermarkets here had Hot Cross Buns on sale on 26 December!! Talisman, I think you've done the right thing. It sounds like it wouldn't have been a good place to work at, and if your actions help someone else in future, that's good too.
  20. Finished Believing the Lie by Elizabeth George.
  21. Since nearly all my books come from the library I'm constrained by what's available there, so I can't plan too much. I do have a list of books that I want to read, that I look for when I go to change my books, but I'm usually lucky if one of those is in when I'm there.

    Book News!

Just saw the movie for The Book Thief advertised. I didn't like this book, but I know a lot of others on here did.
  23. Your son sounds adorable. I love reading to littles, and read to my kids from birth. Unfortunately, they now think they're too old for that (they're 16 and 15). The Honey Guide sounds good. I'm adding it to my wishlist.
  24. Sounds great chalie, have fun.
