  1. I've read Animal Farm and 1984 (reread) and Down and Out in Paris and London. They were all good. I'd like to read all his books eventually.
  2. I've added the George Orwell to my list. I've read three of his in the last year and really enjoyed them. Which others have you read?
  3. I want to read those books, too. They seem to be hard to get hold of at my library. I enjoyed the TV show.
  4. It's gone on my list too. Sounds good.
  5. As I posted on the weather thread, we've had some flooding here the last day or so. I've posted some pics on my blog (which is very new, so not very good), if anyone is interested. https://staciesscatteredthoughts.wordpress.com/
  6. The rain has stopped, for now. There's still a lot of flooding in my city. There's another storm forecast for Tuesday, so more rain, probably more flooding.
  7. It's been raining heavily here all day. We have severe flooding all over the city. Every road in and out of our city is under water. The river is almost over its banks. And the rain is supposed to keep going at least until Sunday. Luckily our house should be ok, but it's not good for others in town. The street my street runs off of was under about a foot of water earlier today.
  8. Finished To Kill a Mockingbird yesterday. This was a reread, but as I remembered very little of it, and it was nearly thirty years ago, I count it as a new book.
  9. Thanks. Off to add the original to my tbr list so I finally get round to reading it.
  10. Finished The Beat Goes On, a book of short stories by Ian Rankin.
  11. Freezing. I got woken up by an icicle breaking when it fell off the eaves this morning.
  12. That sounds interesting Claire. I like Val McDermid. Would you recommend reading the original Northanger Abbey first though. I do plan to at some stage.
  13. Finished Gunshot Road by Adrian Hyland. Loved this book. Unfortunately my library doesn't have any others by him.
  14. Finished Laidlaw by William McIlvaney. Didn't think much of it. Currently reading a very good crime novel set in outback Australia, Gunshot Road by Adrian Hyland - which I've just discovered is the second in the series. Off to see if my library has the first one.
  15. I'm so sorry about your dog Noll. The talent show sounds like a lot of fun June.
  16. Paul - I didn't like The Book Thief either. So you're not alone. As for my favourites, I've read so many books I don't think I could list the best. Before I go to Sleep by S J Watson is definitely up there. The best book I've read recently was A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison. I read this last year, and I still think about it a lot. A very moving story.
  17. Just finished Caging Skies by Christine Leunens.
  18. Well done Frankie.
  19. Finished The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg.
  20. Sounds interesting. Doubt we'll get it down here though.
  21. Finished The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest last night. Loved this series. Currently reading Birdman by Mo Hayder, something a bit lighter.
  22. That's a lot of exams, Chalie. Good luck to him.
  23. That sounds really cool. I'll have to have a look when I've got more time. And show the kids, they'll love it too.
  24. I'm about halfway through book 3 of the Millennium Trilogy and I think I agree with you. His descriptions are great, but sometimes a little long, and I have trouble keeping track of the characters. I find I can't read them in bed at night (when I do most of my reading) as I can't follow the story properly when I'm tired. I really love all three books though.
  25. I spoke too soon the other day. It is now pouring with rain. There's severe flooding in Wellington, two hours away from me. The rain is supposed to keep up for at least another 24 hours.
