As I posted on the weather thread, we've had some flooding here the last day or so. I've posted some pics on my blog (which is very new, so not very good), if anyone is interested.

The rain has stopped, for now. There's still a lot of flooding in my city. There's another storm forecast for Tuesday, so more rain, probably more flooding.
It's been raining heavily here all day. We have severe flooding all over the city. Every road in and out of our city is under water. The river is almost over its banks. And the rain is supposed to keep going at least until Sunday. Luckily our house should be ok, but it's not good for others in town. The street my street runs off of was under about a foot of water earlier today.
Finished To Kill a Mockingbird yesterday. This was a reread, but as I remembered very little of it, and it was nearly thirty years ago, I count it as a new book.
That sounds interesting Claire. I like Val McDermid. Would you recommend reading the original Northanger Abbey first though. I do plan to at some stage.
Finished Laidlaw by William McIlvaney. Didn't think much of it. Currently reading a very good crime novel set in outback Australia, Gunshot Road by Adrian Hyland - which I've just discovered is the second in the series. Off to see if my library has the first one.
Paul - I didn't like The Book Thief either. So you're not alone.
As for my favourites, I've read so many books I don't think I could list the best. Before I go to Sleep by S J Watson is definitely up there. The best book I've read recently was A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison. I read this last year, and I still think about it a lot. A very moving story.
I'm about halfway through book 3 of the Millennium Trilogy and I think I agree with you. His descriptions are great, but sometimes a little long, and I have trouble keeping track of the characters. I find I can't read them in bed at night (when I do most of my reading) as I can't follow the story properly when I'm tired. I really love all three books though.
I spoke too soon the other day. It is now pouring with rain. There's severe flooding in Wellington, two hours away from me. The rain is supposed to keep up for at least another 24 hours.
