  1. Oh now I love these too, Matrix, don't know why I didn't put it in my list, cause I enjoy watching them. And I adore K-Pax, great film, and I love Kevin Spacey.. great actor. There's just one genre (pretty much) that I don't do.. even though I am a girl. I hate romantic comedies. Gag me with a spoon please. Yuck. Rather watch a good sci-fi or horror anyday.
  2. See I am lucky then. I love Indiana Jones, but have never seen the Crystal Skull. Didn't feel like it, and afterwards heard it's bad. So no for me. I watched The Omen yesterday evening. The 70's original, not the horrible remake.. don't care for Julia Stiles anyway. Plus, a remake should be superior to the original, especially if you won't change a lot.. and the 70's film is just so much better.
  3. Only been there once, since we don't have that in Holland (ofcourse) but I loved it. I like chicken and spicy food, so that works out well. It's perfect for when you want to eat out, but do nothing fancy. I mean, it sorta felt like McDonalds, only different. Here in Holland we have this chain of restaurants called Humpfrey's, they have a three course dinner for 22,50 (euros), so that's nice for when you want to do something a little fancier (before you laugh, I am not very rich hee hee, so when one dinner comes down to about 35 euros, that's fancy enough for me). They change their menu every once in a while (used to be every month) and reading through it still makes me get hungry.. http://www.humphreys.nl/files/Doc/menukaart/2010-01_en.pdf Yummm. By far one of my fav restaurants here.
  4. Well I don't live in the UK so we don't have the same book stores here, in fact there's only one decent book store in my city, and it doesn't have much as far as books that I like, plus the English section is quite small, they tend to have just dutch books. So I order online. But when I go to visit a friend that lives in Southampton, he always takes me to Waterstones, and I LOVE it there. Feel way more at home there than I have in any Dutch bookstore. So Waterstones it is. He always goes into Forbidden Planet too, and they have a nice discount book section there, not big, but gotten some lovely books there for just a few pounds each.
  5. I lost my mojo (somehow when I hear this word I always have to think of Austin Powers:tong:) for about the last year.. my dad was very ill with terminal cancer, and worries and being busy completely destroyed my mojo to read even the simplest things. Only picked up reading again after he passed away, and even then after several tries.. what works for me is, not so much trying a new book, but re-reading something I read in the past, but can barely remember. For me, it meant the Dragonriders of Pern series. But I agree on the short stories, if you can't be bothered to read a book, stories do the trick, and if you don't like the story, it's easy to switch. Also, try researching books on the internet.. wikipedia, or several book sites, I always browse the site of the online shop I order books at. For some reason that can get me so excited to read again, to see all the great books out there waiting to be read. If that doesn't help, try switching to a completely different kind of book. Usually does the trick for my mojo.
  6. Born reader, have had a library subscription since I was old enough for it, which means 4 years old. We went every few weeks, and I always took, and finished, the maximum amount of books, which was 8 at the time. In junior school I too was always ahead of the rest of the students with reading, when they read school books, the teachers always asked me to bring my own books so I could read by myself. Think I got it from mom, she was always reading when I was younger, these days not so much anymore, but then there wasn't a day going by without seeing her with a book, basically what I do now.
  7. Really? I read it partially, couldn't finish it, was kind of bored with it. How much can you read about people bashing in other people's heads really? I got annoyed with the chaos. Though I read the wikipedia article on it, and think I might have quit too soon.. still not too fascinated with the whole book though. Only picked it up in the first place cause it was apocalyptic. But it wasn't that disturbing, the bit I read at least.
  8. Me too.. and they're starting filming this summer right? Though please, no Ronan Keating..
  9. What Dreams May Come, Moulin Rouge, the Dead Poet Society. There's plenty more, since I cry easily when watching films.. pff, I cry easily anyway, so why not when watching films? I'll come up with some more later.
  10. Ehm, in no particular order: Psyclon Nine DragonForce Kamelot Placebo Sonata Arctica
  11. Oh dear. I have many, many favourites.. and which are my most favourite depends on the mood I am in, but let me give you the list I always list when people ask me about my fav films. I warn you, there's many. Boondock Saints, Alien 1-3, The Last Mimzy, What Dreams May Come, From Hell, Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jane Eyre (2006), Perfume: The story of a Murderer, The Langoliers, Hornblower, Master and Commander, Stardust, Ginger Snaps 1-3, Memoirs of a Geisha, Moulin Rouge, Mirror Mask, Interview with the Vampire, Neverending Story, Legend, Slither, The Omen series, Hellraiser series, Mists of Avalon, Dracula, Serenity, The Stand, Dune, Children of Dune, Dogma, The Seventh Sign, Like Minds, The Exorcist, Pitch Black, Hellboy, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Neverwas, Underworld (1&2), Donnie Darko, The Prophecy 1-3, Alien vs Predator 2: Requiem, Dead Poet Society. And yes, I too, am a Dogma fan.
  12. Preferably it's quiet, however, if I have to choose between sitting on my room alone quiet, or sitting downstairs with the family where it's not so quiet, I'll still do the latter. On the sofa, because in bed I never sit comfortable for long, and seriously, reading while laying down, nu-uh. Hate it. I read all day if I can, but often just in the evening, cause that's when I have the time for it. Unfortunately that means sometimes I am too tired for it, sometimes my eyes just don't want to make sense of the words or I notice I have been reading the same bit over and over. Tea, or coffee with my book please. No food, am distracted while reading, and don't want food residue in my book.
  13. Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale (though I usually don't like the sort of films she makes, apart from films like Underworld), Ian McKellen. And am sure there are some more out there. I love a lot of actors/actresses.
  14. Haha, I've felt like that ever since I turned like 23 or something. Wonder how I'll feel when I hit 30. Just two more years.. but now people still think me younger than my younger brother, he's 25.
  15. Haha no problem, bet you didn't think to get an answer to this so soon did you.
  16. You're talking about the Ancient Kingdom Trilogy by Garth Nix.. the characters name is Lirael, though this is the second book in the series.. the book's also called Lirael. The first book is Sabriel, the third one Abhorsen. I know and love these books, and am happy to finally be of help in one of these threads where someone's looking for a book.
  17. Peanutbutter sandwich. Gah, I hate eating in the morning, but have to work later.. so then I have to, or go very hungry hee hee.
  18. Oh, this is a tough question. I love reading, the feeling of sitting somewhere with a book, just escaping the world for a while.. I do read for escapism, sometimes I dislike the world around me so much I need to be somewhere else. But also reading is comfort. Takes me back to those days when I was a kid and a book was a whole new world for me, absorbed me totally, unfortunately I rarely have those reads anymore, always something getting in the way. I love getting to know new places, new people. I often feel I have made new friends when reading a new book, and in real life I can't travel much due to funds and time, so I love getting around in my books... plus since I read fantasy, there's no way I could go to those places in real life. But for me mostly, reading is getting away from it all. Many bad things have happened in my life the last few years.. and books help me with that. Sometimes I do read to learn more, but generally my "fun" books tempt me to read more.
  19. ^That is one book that would automatically classify you as uncool in my opinion. Not just uncool, but worse. Mind you, am not trying to offend anyone here, so please don't take offence by what I say.. My views on this are so complicated that half the time I don't know what I think about it, and I know forums often are not fond of the religion discussion, so I will not elaborate, let's just say I dislike organized religion, and Christianity in particular. Unless you're reading it as fiction/for fun, have heard it's quite a story then hee hee.
  20. ^wow, you just agreed on a whole lot of what I said. And true, there's beauty in art too, or at least some forms of art. Others are ugly. But some things in nature can be ugly too, so I guess it's only fair. But art maybe is one of the few things that make mankind worthwile. And haven't read The End Of Mr. Y, though I saw it around here on the forum somewhere, and thought it might be worth a read.. one of many books I must add you guys have pointed me to. Love this forum.
  21. Alien 3. I love the Alien films, Resurrection is only worth it because it's part of the series though, besides that, nah.
  22. You put the same series books in the same boxes? Wow, when I have gotten to the point where I realize I have to box up books, I don't care where they are. And DVDs by alphabet? Would only do that if I had a very lot of DVDs... but I have maybe 1/4th as much DVDs as books. Am I saying that right? 4 times more books.
  23. I agree with you on hauntings, that's more my mom's thing.. however I have loved anything vampiry since I can remember.. for longer than 15 years now that has to be, and I think I can remember me reading some vamp stuff in junior school, so that's like.. 20 years ago. Loved it then. So I am kinda fed up with all the popular vampire books out there, also cause every author seems to have his or her own take on vampires, what they're like, what they can stand, how they become vampires. Pff.
  24. I love fantasy.. always have and always will. However, if you ask me why.. that's hard to say. I just do. Part of it is, that I hate the world we live in. It's got its perks, don't get me wrong. But it's a cold, unimaginative, ugly place to live in most of the time. All beauty comes from nature. And humankind.. well I don't like them. Humans, in my opinions, are little more than apes, monkeys even, animals who think themselves better, more developed and more evolved. Ridiculous. Which possibly is why I love apocalyptic stuff so much, part of me feels we deserve to be exterminated. So, anything that gives me more than there is in daily life, is good reading for me. Most of the books I read are something that is fantasy, sci-fi, horror, just.. something more. Which is what I always have the feeling I am looking for. More. Unfortunately. It's not that I hate life, or hate my life.. just am never satisfied with it. So yeah, fantasy for me, is more colorful, exciting and romantic than normal. I'm always disappointed in people... Also, I have always been fascinated with myths, legends and supernatural stuff (even if I don't really believe in the last, then again, I don't believe in the other stuff either). I love science too, that's why I love sci-fi. I'd give a lot to be able to time travel and see mankind and other planets in the future.. But when sci-fi literature has got too much technology stuff in it, it's not for me.. it's not what's important to me. Perfect for me, is a mix between sci-fi and fantasy.. like the Dragonriders of Pern series, Anne McCaffrey, or alternate reality stuff. Like Kushiel's Dart (Jacqueline Carey). Pff. I could write a bookwork about this. Apart from that I can't write that well. Just let me say I adore fantasy.
  25. ^that's why, when it's time for christmas or my birthday, and people ask me what I want and I say to them books, that I always give them a list of books I'd like, usually a long list so they can pick and choose, but I give them a list and tell them to please shop from that or buy a gift card, cause then I might not get double books. Maybe less fun, but saves hassle.
