  1. Gollum: How We Made Movie Magic, Andy Serkis. Really amazing to see how they created Gollum, and I think I really like Andy Serkis. I got this book as a present from someone who knew how much I liked the films (and who has given me several other artbooks about it too) and only recently started it.
  2. Tonight, as every friday.. CSI Miami, then Lie to Me, then CSI Las Vegas.
  3. You know, I have been thinking about reading this for ages, the author being from my country and all. But I just can't get myself to do it. The Dutch literature I have read I have found notoriously boring, and I have read (for school) some other work of Harry Mulisch, can't remember which one, and found it almost not readable. The plot idea appeals to me, but the rest.. hmm.
  4. Oh I agree on it being better and lasting longer than the DaVinci Code, but there's nothing so shocking about the Road.. over the years I have read so many tales like it, post-apocalyptic tales set in a world after some disaster, often nuclear too. The cannibals, the world existing of nothing more than things left, things destroyed, no one left to make them work or repare them.. there is nothing particularly inventive about that. The only thing that sets the Road apart for me, is that it's bleaker, and just that little less hopeful. But it's crossed that line for me, where it goes from just being dark to damnright depressing. You know, where it leaves a bad feeling for a while after you've read it, like a bad taste in your mouth. See, I don't hate the Road, and it wasn't that much a bad read either.. I just don't think it's as revolutionary as everyone claims.
  5. Am doing alright here, not so happy it's february, always suffer from a bit of a winter depression, february being my least favourite month of the year. :( But it's over soon. ;)

But me, write? Oh no.. in the past there have been attempts, mostly for school to be honest, but I found out writing is not for me, I never get it onto paper the way I want to. Besides, I am notorious pretty much for not finishing things after starting them. Unfortunately. ;) But I rather stick to reading anyway, more fun for me.

You're doing good too I hope? You're as happy as I am that spring's almost here? ;)

  6. Well, I agree on the DaVinci Code. I think I didn't even get to 100 pages in that one, was bored out of my skull and the writing style to me was horrible. Also, everyone's fussing about The Road.. Cormac McCarthy. In my opinion, not that special, too bleak and just didn't find it as much of an intriguing read as I expected to.
  7. Nope. I never read a magazine. Haven't really in years. I mean, I don't think they're worth what they cost. They're so expensive! Plus most of them don't really interest me.. or what's in them I could read online. IF I would read anything it's Metal Hammer, National Geographic too, or ehh.. no that's it. I hate gossip magazines, and the glamour and fashion ones.. well usually I don't like the stuff in them. I'll stick to books.
  8. Holding back tears? I was just crying then, then again I am a lightweight when it comes to crying when watching films, I easily do so.
  9. Oh I lover her in City of Ember, even though that turned out even more a kiddie film that I expected, but she is a great actress. So that's a plus for the film.
  10. Yeah see, I didn't recommend his short stories cause I don't much care for them. They're just giving a hint of an idea, and then poof, it's gone. Over. Before it's even begun. I like long books, and especially long SK books. Plus, I think the atmosphere in the stories is not really King, since he usually does this elaborate getting to know the lives of the people involved in his stories.. and you don't get that in stories.
  11. See, I LIKE Tommyknockers.. but then again I read it when I had read so so much of his other work already..
  12. I agree on the books SKM mentioned above, and like to add, I think it would be best to start with his earlier work. Most of us agree that those are the best, and often scariest. But yeah, he's famous for books like the Shining, IT, Carrie, Firestarter (almost forgot about that one, but I do love it), Tommyknockers, hell, all of his earlier work. At first I'd stay away from books like Desperation (though this one is fascinating, I just think it's non-typical SK), Hearts in Atlantis or Cell. Those are, to me, not really Stephen King. I too, adore the Stand and Talisman, the sequel to the Talisman (Black House) is a little less good, but still worth reading. But really, where to start. There's so much. You could always start with short novellas like Cycle of the Werewolf (adapted for film as Silver Bullet). You know what, check this out, and see which book appeals to you most. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_King_bibliography
  13. ^What? You know there's more people on this forum who like this series, at least I can recall this from browsing, couldn't tell you who but I know they're here.
  14. *nods* Though today I bought three Jules Verne books for 1,39 each, that's what I call fun shopping.
  15. I didn't plan on buying anymore books this month, but honestly, who can resist a book for 1,39 euro? Went to this discount store with mom and they usually don't have books, but not I walked out with three Jules Verne books (have been thinking about reading some of his work lately): Around the World in 80 Days (De Reis om de Wereld in 80 dagen), From the Earth to the Moon (Van de Aarde naar de Maan) and Around the Moon (De Reis om de Maan). All are Dutch paperbacks, since I don't read French that well, might as well read them in Dutch. English would be silly. Anyway, three books for 4,17, not bad ey? They didn't have much else though, too bad. Yeah some Poe stories books, but I have that already.
  16. Oh am re-reading the Eye of the World now, first book in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, and even though I know it's not my fav, it's been years since I read it and I find myself happy to be reading it again. It's lovely, magical, and feels like wrapping myself up in my favourite blanket again after too long. I didn't know I remembered this much, I didn't even know that this was THAT particular book, with the Ogier, and the Saidin roads etc. I loved it, and it's certainly amongst my favourites, can't wait to read the rest again, don't think I have ever gotten beyond the first 5 or 6, so there's plenty more, am SOOOOO happy about that.
  17. Someone somewhere here posted something about the book Living Dead Girl, can't remember the name of the author, but about a 10 year old girl that gets kidnapped and has to serve her kidnapper for 5 years as a sexslave. Then he forces her to track down a new victim. Now, I haven't read this, but this would be the sort of book to disturb me.. the cruelty people could inflict on other people, and then not just pain, but mental torture, and especially on a child. That would leave me feeling horrible for days at least.
  18. I have read about two books of this series. The Witching Hour and Lasher, I think. Also, I read Merrick in the Vampire Chronicles, and the other sort of cross-over books. To me, they're not nearly as good as the Vampire Chronicles. Also has to do with the fact I don't like witches as much as vampires, but that said, I also think these books are more chaotic, plus I just can't get myself to feel any sympathy for any of the lead characters. Plus, I really don't like these Taltos creatures.. I have quite a bit of imagination, and it's not that they're so alien that doesn't work for me. I just think the whole thing is far-fetched, and it just.. doesn't work. Don't know, for others it does, because there are plenty of people who adore this more than the Vampire Chronicles, but for me, nope. Also, all the cross over books between the series, are less than the others to me. The characters that come from the Mayfair series are just not likeable. At least, the ones belonging to the family. Mona (especially her, I hate her), Rowan.. I would be perfectly happy if I never have to read about them again.
  19. Oh I hate the American Pie films.. if they'd make me cry it's with embarassment and revulsion. They're horrible, disgusting and I hate the few I have seen, or really I have seen the first one in total, the others I caught some scenes here and there when they were on telly. It's like Van Wilder, or pretty much every Ben Stiller film (except for Night at the Museam, that one was fairly tolerable and actually entertaining to watch).. they go for cheap laughs. That and sitting through an entire film where you feel embarrassed for the lead character, well let's just say those films are NOT my taste.
  20. Coffee. Okay, it's not food, but pretty much just as important. Perfect way to start the day.
  21. Dark chocolate, then milk, then white. I like em all though. I love chocolate with butterscotch (yum) or caramel. Oh delicious. NO whole nuts in it for me thanks, little chunks is ok.. yumm chocolate.
  22. I just ordered three books, costing me (including shipping) around 25 euros. That's my books for this month, and maybe the next too. Am thinking about starting saving up for a tattoo, so the money has to come from somewhere. I need more money.
  23. Okay, I disagree, I was quite disappointed with the Happening. I was very excited about that, and in the end I was like.. what? I mean.. the rest of the film wasn't bad, but that one seriously disappointed me. But I will love to watch this new film, seems great, loved the trailer.
  24. Just ordered Anne MacCaffrey's Chronicles of Pern: First Fall, and Dragonsdawn and Robert Jordan's The Great Hunt (Wheel of Time 2). Happy Happy joy joy. Now just wait for 5 to 7 working days for them to be delivered. Not fair, order Dutch books and you get them the day after!! But now, because I read them in English.. more than a week. Still. New books yay!
  25. Browsing an online book shop site, or just websites about books, and realizing it will take me forever to read them all, and that I just don't have the money to buy em all. Seriously, my wish list is getting longer and longer, and if I'd read all the books that sound interesting to me, I'd have enough to read for like, a decade. If not more. Too many books, too little time. So depressing.
