  1. Hey goodbyepenguin! Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll fit right in
  2. I've read the book and seen the film and I enjoyed them both. I think there was so much information in the book that they didn't have a choice but to miss scenes out unfortunately. However I think they adapted it really well for the screen and the added scenes were done quite well. I think it was a great movie and a lot less dis-jointed than the OOTP movie too. I really can't wait for the last movie now and I'm glad they're splitting it into two parts to fit it all in. There's no way it could be a 2 hour job
  3. Ah Frankie it was amazing!! I think you should choose London as your English speaking destination for your work placement. It's just the most fabulous city and there's a million places to go.

We saw the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Parliment, the famous shopping streets, Harrods (which was bizarre!) ooooh loads of things really. My favourite places being Camden Market and Covent Garden.

You have flu? :friends0: Poor you! And fancy missing the music festival too. Ahhhhhh :( Well I hope you're feeling better soon. I think the best thing to cheer a person with the flu up is a nice tub of expenive icecream. It's seriously good at putting a smile back on my face and picking me up! :D I would suggest triple chocolate though.

Oh don't worry about previous messages etc. I always get side tracked or just nip in for a quick browse :) life and books often get in the way don't they! What are you reading at the mo?

  4. Hey Lexie!

I'm grand! Just got back from my first ever visit to London and I'm in love with it! Hope you are well too?

Ooooh glad to hear the book arrived in one piece! You'll have to let me know how you find it. It's one of my favourite Deaver adventures and I think quite a few others reave about it too. xx

  5. Frankie!!!

I'm off to London tomorrow! Eeeeeeek! Super excited but slightly terrified at the size of the place. What if I get lost??!!:10_confused: I'll never be found again!

    Hope you're well :D

  6. Hey Lexie!

I've (finally) posted that book off to you today 1st class so it should be there with you by Friday.

Hope you enjoy it! Also....I love your glasses in your avatar. They're really cool! I need a new pair and really like yours :D

Oh and I've only just noticed your note about my avatar :D Thanks! It was taken at Tynemouth last summer on one of those lazy summer days.

  7. Kimmy! I absolutely love you avatar!!! Ahhhhhh........and the daydream begins........

  8. I'm 14 year old Katherine Howard, the future 5th wife to King Henry VIII. I'm also a complete flirt!
  9. Frankie!!! I have tears of laughter rolling down my face!! You're too funny!!
  10. Me too! I've been tempted by the books but thought I'd give the TV show a go first as my TBR pile is out of control!
  11. I've just finished The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory and thought it was fantastic! The book follows the life of Mary Boleyn as she becomes King Henry VIIIs mistress, mother to his children and eventually gets put to one side as her Sister Anne makes a play for the throne of England at the request of her family to enable them to rise up the social ladder. The books reminds the reader of how women were used as pawns in the game of marriage, to benefit their family. Due to the lack of an heir to the throne from Queen Katharine of Aragon, the king begins to think that his marriage is cursed. Anne, at the insistence of her father and uncle, re-inforces these doubts and set off a chain of events that enable Henry to divorce his wife, become head of the church within England and become one of the greatest tyrants Endland has known. Although Anne basically changed life for women across the country by allowing men to divorce their wives on a whim, she didn't realise that it would also be her undoing when she loses favour of the King. She put Queen Katharine of Aragon through hell and found herself in exactly the same position 10 years later. I really loved this book and cant wait to start the direct sequel The Boleyn Inheritance which is currently sat on my shelves purring at me. 10/10 !!!!
  12. Sounds like the perfect summer reading Stephanie! I've just re-read the Harry Potter series and I'd forgotten how great it was. I'm off to London for 2 nights on Thursday so I'm taking The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory for the 3 hour train journey there and back.
  13. Goodness.....about 50 ish (?!) I've got a plan drawn up for the summer of about a book per week so I should get through a good few before I get back to uni. (Fingers crossed!) New books are just too tempting!
  14. I went to the cinema and had Ben and Jerry's icecream which I'm pretty sure is off the scale on the Weight Watchers diet! haa!
  15. It's really good Ben! I was gutted when I finished it
  16. Hey Frankie!

How are you? Reading is going well! I've just made my way through the Harry Potter books and now I'm reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory which I can't put down! I'm feeling a 10/10 coming along.....seriously!! Oooooh Good Omens! Ah it's brilliant! When do you think you'll get it started?

The weather is really weird here. One minute it's really hot and I'm getting a tan....the next minute thunder, lightening and rainstorms. Crazy! I'm glad to hear you've been having the sun over your neck of the woods! It sounds like you had an amazing time in Helsinki!

Really really can't wait to go to London now! eeeeek! I'm on a really tight budget until the end of September so I'll have to watch my pennies unfortunately. Hopefully I'll buy a nice little something to remember the trip buy but clothes shopping doesn't look good

  17. There's so much we want to see but as we're only there for 2 nights we'll have to narrow it down a bit so I reckon we'll be doing all the typical tourist sight seeing this time around. We're staying next to Kings Cross so it's a good centre to explore from :D I'll create an album of photos when I get back. Newcastle is a really compact city too so I think it'll seem really small when I get back too!

I really like true crime books. I've read a few about the Yorkshire Ripper and Jeffrey Dahmer too. I read them once in a while as I think I'd be too scared to leave the house if I read them too often! Do you find yourself jumping at the slightest noise when reading?

Oh yeah, that's a pic of me and the BF at the seaside last summer. We were out with a group of friends from university, building sand castles and having a picnic etc when this crazy woman (I think quite literally) came over to us and accused me of being the reason her Mother died! Very bizarre. We left shortly after that! haa!

  18. This is such a good thread! Been reading more than you could have imagined? Or has your mojo deserted you? I've been reading quite a lot although uni work has slowed me down over the past few months. I read 23 books between January and June which isn't too bad really Found any new favourites? Been disappointed by others? I'm in love with Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and slowly making my way through them. Interview With The Vampire has been my favourite so far and I love the character of Lestat. I've also been enjoying the Lincoln Rhyme's series by Jeffrey Deaver. My favourite so far being the Bone Collector followed closely by the Coffin Dancer. I was really looking forward to the Birthing House by Christopher Ransom but was let down by it. It had the potential to be an amazing book but was a bit drawn out and quite uncomfortable to read in parts. I was also disappointed by the Memory Keepers Daughter....again, this had great potential but didn't live up to it. Been sticking to your reading challenges? Or pushed them to the side in the name of being spontaneous? I didn't really set myself any reading challenges at the start of the year and have just followed recommendations from friends, family and BCF members. I think I'm quite a spontaneous reader anyway so I just head in the direction my mood takes me I'm in the middle of The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory at the moment which would normally never have appealed to me. I can't put it down so will probably end up reading the entire Tudor Series unless something else comes along to take my fancy. I don't really have a set path. Bought more books than you've read? (Please tell me I'm not alone in this!) Yup. I've been searching second-hand book shops for the odd book and coming away with 3 or four a time. It doesn't help when they sell them at reduced prices and 'buy one get one free' offers! Eeeek! Been spending too much time at BCF when you could otherwise be making inroads into your TBR pile? And if so, are you going to do anything about it? (Let me guess...'Yes' and 'No', right? ) Yes and yes. I've decided not to spend too much time on here and so far I'm sticking to it.....about an hour a night. Although that hour could be spent reading too! Oh the dilemma! And finally, where do you hope your reading will take you in the next 6 months? Well I'm hoping that I can make quite a dent in my TBR mountain from now until I return to uni in October. Then I think I'll probably not get much of a chance to read due to dissertation work etc
  19. I'm the Sister of Anne Boleyn and currently King Henry VIII's mistress/play-thing. I've recently been out of favour with the King as he has been spending time with his wife in hope of conceiving an heir to the throne but a recent turn in events is making it look likely that I will become his favourite once more.
  20. Hey Lexie!!

I've had a manic few days so haven't had a second to get to the post office! Eeeeek! I'll get the book in the post asap! Sorry for the delay :D
