  1. :welcome2: Hello Ross! :welcome2:

    Love the avatar btw!!

  2. BCF is lethal to studying isn't it!! It's too easy to drop back in every 20 mins only to spend another 30 mins reading unread posts (or leaving spoilers in my case!!!!! Still mortified!! A bit of an argument followed my apology!! Eeek!! One person said that it's probably assumed that everyone now knows the ending to harry potter, another person asked why people were reading the discussion about the Harry Potter books when they hadn't read them as it was bound to let a few things slip. Other people said that we should be respectful of others........can of worms and I've not gone back!!! haa!! It's the Harry Potter forum if you're interested in a snoop!)

He is quite nice for an older man isn't he!! But why so far away?? hmpf!

  3. Haa! I'll buy the plane tickets now!! Imagine me just turning up on his doorstep "Erm hi Mr Gaiman. Just wondering, fancy getting hitched??" How could he refuse!! haa!!

I've got a module called The Future of Town Planning & we've been given a creative piece about a future urban utopia/distopia. I kind of have an idea to go on.

I'm going to write about a future where the world is governed by Disney. There's a town in Florida called Celebration which was built by Disney and everything is perfect. People are too happy, homes are too perfect, they even import snow on christmas day! It's probably a lot of peoples idea of utopia but when you look into it, homes can only be afforded by the rich, the residents aren't mixed & it's completely unrealistic.

I've got a good book about a couple who moved to celebration for a year and documented their time there. And then there's the hardcore uni texts :hide:

Maybe I could get Neil Gaiman to write it for me when we're married!! haa!!

  4. Hey Marianne! I'm pretty new here too! It's a really friendly forum.....everyone is lovely! Hope you have lots of time on your hand because your 'to read' list is about to grow quite a bit!!
  5. I know.....it was a bit wasn't it. But I suppose it's just one of those easy reads that are good from time to time. I was surprised when they made it into a movie as I didn't really think enough had happened. I still haven't seen it.

You've made me feel a lot better about my Bruno-hate.....haaa!! I think I thought he was just too selfish and a bit of a winge. I just remember thinking "My goodness. If that was my son I'd have a hard time not strangling him!!" He was always doing things he was told not to and look where it got him! (Maybe a bit harsh :tong:)

I finished the Anansi Boys today. It was really good and hilarious. I'm thinking of hunting Neil Gaiman down and asking him to marry me!! If I ask nicely he might just say yes!

  6. Ah thanks!! That'll save my life!! And yeah, I thought everyone knew how Harry Potter finished too....that's probably why I didn't think about it too much!! Eeeeeeek!! :eek2:

So how are you finding Boy in the Striped Pyjamas? Are you hating the little boy yet (or is that just me??)

  7. Well I hope you get a copy soon!! :)

I know exactly what you mean about the t-shirt thing. Just hide it until he's forgotten all about it!! Haa!! Unless he really loves it then I think you're stuck with it!

They are quite handy to have around from time to time :)

Also.....I was just told off for not tagging a spoiler! EEEEKKK!!! So I tried to edit it but I'm not sure how to add a spoiler tag and change the colour of the text to the same shade of blue as the background  Do you know how I would do that? I've just deleted the whole thing as I accidentally gave away the entire ending to Harry Potter 7 in only 10 words! xx

  8. Yeah.....that epilogue was a bit embarrassing It was the names of those kids that did it. But apart from that I really enjoyed it! I don't know how many times I've read them all now and with the new movie coming out soon I'm tempted to read them again. It's really good to read them all again knowing the final outcome.
  9. :welcome2:Hi PandaGirl! I'm pretty new here too! I've found everyone to be really friendly and supportive of each other....a really good forum. The only downside is that I now have a list of about 15 books that I need to read.......will definitely fail my degree!!! Happy reading!!
  10. I definitely will.....I don't know why I haven't got a copy yet!

Maybe Amazon.co.uk would post it to you? or Ebay? And as for Good Omens.....tell him to get a move on!! haa!! Or you could temporarily steal it, denying all knowledge until you've finished. Then tell him you found it in a random place :)

I know......I'm clearly a bad person!! Karma will come and get me! haaaa

  11. :welcome2:Hi Niki!

Hope you settle in ok :)

  12. Oh I've not read the Graveyard Book yet but thought Stardust was ok. I think Neverwhere and Good Omens are his best books. I couldn't put either of them down!!

I suppose Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a bit doom and gloom now you come to mention it. But still quite light.......I'm confusing myself!! haa!! I don't know how you'll find it but I found the main character really easy to dislike which probably says something about my character as he's only a boy of about 8!! Eeeek!!

I think I've given up on my BF ever becoming an avid reader. I buy him books of graffiti art which he likes.....I suppose I could gradually get books which have more and more text in them. Ha! A cunning plan is forming  xx

  13. Misery is without a doubt my favourite King novel. It's just genius! I too love the way he just pushes the levels of sadistic......the sledgehammer scene! Dear me!
  14. There's so many of them!! Ah.......that's made my day!! :D Thanks Ceinwenn!!
  15. Yeah it's really good! I love Neil Gaiman......he's a really good storyteller. I would definitely recommend Anansi Boys (and I haven't even finished it yet!! haa!!) It's really easy to follow and pretty funny. :D The lead character never seems to get a break!

I've not read the James Ellroy book but Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is really pretty good! It's quite a light read so good if you've just finished something heavy going. Let me know what you think of it! A few of my friends have also read it and they enjoyed it too.

My boyfriend doesn't really read much. He likes the Terry Pratchett Night Watch series and that's about it really.....you're lucky! xx

  16. Hey Frankie!!

Thanks! I spent quite a bit of time changing the settings just so I didn't have to do any Uni work! Eeeek!

Yeah I really like this forum. Everyone's really friendly and I've just added about 15 books to my 'to read' list.

Do you have any books on the go at the moment? xx

  17. I didn't realise there was a Lincoln Rhyme series!! I'm really excited now!! I've read The Bone Collector and loved it! Also, Mister.g I've just noticed that you're currently reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. It's one of my all time favourite books! Hope you're enjoying it!
  18. Hmmmmm........ Audrey Nieffeneger - Time Traveller's Wife Neil Gaimen - Neverwhere Chuck Palaniuk - Haunted JK Rowling - Deathly Hallows Irvine Welsh - Porno
  19. Thanks!! I've now got a growing list of books to make my way through. Think a visit to Waterstones is on the cards today!
  20. Thanks Charm! xx

  21. Hmmmmmm....... 1. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens 2. Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman 3. Harry Potter books - JK Rowling 4. Porno - Irvine Welsh 5. Haunted - Chuck Palahniuk I'll change my mind tomorrow
  22. Yeah I kind of alternate between YA and adult books. I've read the Twilight Series, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials etc but also read books by Irvine Welsh, Chuck Palahniuk, Richard Brautigan etc which are at the opposite end of the Spectrum. I suppose I probably read something YA after reading something heavy going. If anyone has any recommendations of good YA books I'd like to hear them......need something new
