  1. Charles Collingwood (Brian Aldridge) was on Breakfast TV this morning - plugging his new book (I think!).
  2. I used to like Bookworm, on Sunday afternoons, and latterly Tuesday (or was it Wednesday?) evenings. The Beeb should have a regular book program as part of its public service work!
  3. Pictures of the Doctor in The Sarah Jane Adventures (coming next month). Mild spoilers in the text, but the pictures themselves don't give much away.
  4. They didn't do a bad job of adapting the books they did, given they had a BBC budget, their only real mistake was in trying to spin the story out to fill the 13 week slot vacated by Doctor Who. If it had been six or eight parts, it would have made for a much tighter story.
  5. I'm on the last two episodes of Firefly. Why did Fox have to go and cancel such a fantastic series?!
  6. Yes, that annoys the out of me as well!
  7. Raven

    Merlin

Thoroughly enjoyed it, ticks all the boxes for me and makes for a good run in to Christmas! I have a similar problem. Every time Arthur does something I find myself thinking, "Connery wouldn't have done that . . ."
  8. Nutritional information on pre-packaged food that tries to make the product look healthier than it is by only listing "per-portion" or "per 100g serving" when the whole thing is obviously designed to be eaten in one sitting. What is the point of putting a
  9. I'd say you will get more out of them if you read them in order, if only because the characters stories do progress as the books go along.
  10. I don't know why I'm posting this now, you're probably busy sharpening pencils and queuing up video tapes, but enjoy Strictly!

  11. Okay, always up for a challenge! At the top of my list would have to be: War of the Worlds, by H.G. Wells The original "The Martians are coming!" novel, and probably still the best; I love the descriptive way Wells writes and this is a book I can read over and again without getting bored. The Day of the Triffids, by John Wyndham The Kraken Wakes, also by John Wyndham The Midwich Cuckoos, by - you guessed it -John Wyndham Wyndham is one of my favourite authors, and this non-related little trilogy are three of his best. I love the period feel of Wyndham
  12. Granted! (You've been thrown out!). I wish the every child had clean drinking water.
  13. There is a report on Digital Spy that they are up for the next Bond theme as well. Some people do get about, don't they?!
  14. Read it yourself before you hand it over, it's well worth it!
  15. It is half-written, but I'm struggling for alternate words for bland, mediocre and dull!
  16. It's like, 20 questions with you, isn't it?! I read a fairly wide variety of books, and watch an even wider variety of TV, but on the whole I would have to say that I'm primarily interested in science fiction books and TV programs.
  17. 500 Mile Walkies, by Mark Wallington It is the spring of 1982; the Falklands War has just begun and in Minehead, Somerset, author Mark Wallington is contemplating his sanity, for he is about to embark on a month-long trek around the coastline of the South West peninsular. His travelling companion, according to his license, is a dog called Boogie who's only previous experience of the countryside occurred when he was run-over by a Luton bound Green-line bus. Their destination? Poole Harbour, Dorset. 500 miles away . . . I have to admit that this is one of my favourite books, and one that I have re-read numerous times since I first did so waaaaaay back in 1987. Telling the story of one man and his (borrowed) dog as they walk the periphery of the South West, 500 Mile Walkies is a humorous travelog that was written years before the phrase was invented, and whilst Bill Bryson was still a gleam in his editor's eye. Through the rigors of North Devon, the many pasties eaten in Cornwall, the caravan parks of South Devon and the heritage coast of Dorset, Wallington's writing style is an easy one to get along with; informative without being preachy; descriptive without being dry and humorous throughout. And then there is his relationship with Boogie; often adversarial and always funny, the two are the man and dog equivalent of The Odd Couple. Probably the biggest complement I can give this book is that it makes me want to do this as well; to visit the villages and towns, to see the waterfalls and coves he describes and above all to enjoy the variety and beauty of this part of the country. If you like Coast and enjoy a light, informative and humorous read, this is the travel book for you!
  18. Wish granted! (his been nicked by David Bowie!). I wish I had three more wishes!
  19. Wish Granted! But cows have been wiped out as a species by your frivolity! I wish carrots didn't exist! (seriously, there is no downside to this!).
  20. I'll bite! Wish granted! But it won't be until the next day that you realise that you dribbled on your top, and that loving look you thought he was giving you is actually him eyeing you carefully, seeing you for the possessed psychopath that you are! I wish everyone was Scottish!
  21. I've got a friend who has read the original Shannara books, and is contemplating Genesis of of Shannara, does anyone know if it is it any good? *spots Vanwa jumping up and down with her hand in the air*
  22. Granted, but the bus and everyone on it ends up on another planet where everything has been eaten by flying stingray type creatures . . . (and there's no Doctor to help you, because he's fictional and doesn't really exist!). I wish nice things for the wonderful person who posts next!
  23. A friend of mine had a similar problem with a neighbour who would play loud music well into the night. Turns out they weren't morning people though, so it stopped after he played The Imperial March from Star Wars at high volume before he left for work in the mornings - they soon got the message!
