  1. I know! Sorry chesil It's quite a big series too, 8 so far, but I managed to get 3 brand new ones for a fiver in a bargain book shop today, unfortunately two of them were a couple of the later books though and one was a replacement copy of the first (the one I have is slightly damaged) so I can't carry on until I get the 2nd & 3rd, and eventually the 7th & 8th I'm also on the lookout for the Undead series as well That's where I saw it too and I think someone on here recommended it to me. I've already purchased 10 books this year and only read 4! At this rate I'm gonna be pretty broke soon, but at least I won't be bored! Upside? My OH suggested we go and look at bookcases on Sunday!
  2. Dark Lover ~by~ J R Ward Synopsis Courtesy Of Waterstones: In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There also exists a secret band of brothers like no other - six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Among them, none relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both... My thoughts: Vampires are being hunted down and destroyed by lessers, humans made into souless beings whose sole purpose is to eradicate the vampire race. Wrath is the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a deadly band of vampire warriors hell bent on revenge against the lessers. When one of Wrath's closest warriors is murdered, Wrath is charged with taking care of his beautiful, orphaned, half human, daughter who is due to go through her transition any day now, a transition which will either turn her into a vampire or kill her. She needs all the help she can get as she is introduced to vampires, race wars and a whole other dark world she never even imagined. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Set in modern day New York, it's written in a style that's easy to follow with characters that are very likeable. It has a gritty sub plot of race war mixed with an overlying story of lust and passion between the two main characters. I found myself just wanting to know what happened next as the story unfolded although I would have liked to have seen more of the race war in action. It did get a bit corny at the end with how some of the characters changed, but not enough to spoil it for me. I have already bought some more of the series and will definately be buying the rest. Please note: This book is most definately not for a younger audience as it contains a lot of explicit sexual scenes. 9/10
  3. No it's not just you, Sov is starting to irritate me too, mind you she's not as bad as I thought she'd be with all the hype. Alex actually does seem ok, which suprised me as well, once he stops showing off of course But definately Vinnie to win!! He's so funny
  4. Was in town today and just had to visit the local bookshops, well you have to don't ya? Bought: Lover Revealed ~ J R Ward Lover Unbound ~ J R Ward Lover Enshrined ~ J R Ward A Touch Of Dead ~ Charlaine Harris I also got a copy of Bitten by Kelley Armstrong for a friend of mine and when I arrived home the postman had delivered Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris from Heather in the bookring. Happy days!

  10. Fantastic review frankie! I saw Too Close To Home several times in charity shops last week but didn't get one, maybe time for a return trip!
  11. Oh I hope I haven't put you off! If it's any consolation, I didn't watch SITC either, couldn't stand it tbh. It's a short read, so why not give it a go since you have it anyway! Please do, I think you might enjoy it Hey Shin! Bout ye! Happy New Year back at ya hun thank you! Glad you're finding something interesting here, I know a couple of other members who've also read and enjoyed the Undead series and I hope you do too.
  12. Undead And Unwed ~by~ MaryJanice Davidson Synopsis Courtesy Of Waterstone's: It's been a hell of a week for Betsy Taylor. First she loses her job. Then she's killed in a freak accident only to wake up in a morgue to discover she's a vampire. On the plus side, being undead sure beats the alternative. She now has superhuman strength and an unnatural effect on the opposite sex. But what Betsy can't handle is her new liquid diet...And whilst her mother and best-friend are just relieved to find out that being dead doesn't mean Betsy's can't visit, her new 'night-time' friends have the ridiculous idea that Betsy is the prophesied vampire queen. The scrumptious Sinclair and his cohorts want her help in overthrowing the most obnoxious power-hungry vampire in five centuries. (A Bella Lugosi wannabe who's seen one to many B-movies.) Frankly Betsy couldn't care less about vamp politics. But Sinclair and his followers have a powerful weapon in their arsenal - unlimited access to Manolo Blahnik's Spring collection. Well, just because a girl's dead - er undead - doesn't mean she can't have great shoes... My thoughts: Betsy Taylor is an ordinary girl with a love of shoes and fashion, who gets killed in a car accident and awakens in a morgue to discover she's a vampire. It's not all bad, she loves her new superhuman powers with the only drawbacks being her new liquid diet and the fact that some of her new friends think she's the foretold queen who has come to get rid of the evil Nostro. Quite frankly, Queen Betsy would far rather check out the latest sales as start a fight with a fashion challenged old vamp! I really enjoyed this book. It's light, witty and full of oneliners. Betsy's character is likeable as are her friends. The plot moves along at a steady pace with nothing too taxing to have to think about. There is a good bit of adult content so it's most definately not a young adult book but if you want a quick, fun, read along the lines of Sex In The City with vampires, you might enjoy this. The only drawbacks I found were, the plot was a bit predicatable and some sections seemed to drag on a little bit where it wasn't needed. Having said that, I do find myself wanting to read the rest of the series to find out how the characters progress and how Betsy copes with being the Queen of the Block! 8/10

    Hello All!

Hi Ethan Nice to meet you and to the forum
  14. Thanks Weave I would defintately start with The Bone Collector (you may have seen the film), it is the start of the series and introduces all the main characters. It's fast paced, pretty gruesome and pulls you in from the very start
  15. The Vanished Man ~by~ Jeffery Deaver Synopsis Courtesy of Waterstone's: A killer flees the scene of a homicide at a prestigious Manhattan music school and locks himself in a classroom. Within minutes, the police have him surrounded. Then a scream rings out, followed by a gunshot. The police break down the door. The room is empty. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are brought in to help with the high-profile investigation. For the ambitious Sachs, solving the case could earn her a promotion. For the quadriplegic Rhyme, it means relying on his protege to ferret out a master illusionist they've dubbed the conjurer, who baits them with gruesome murders that become more diabolical with each fresh crime. As the fatalities rise and the minutes tick down, Rhyme and Sachs must move beyond the smoke and mirrors to prevent a terrifying act of vengeance that could become the greatest vanishing act of all. My thoughts: Another bizarre case for the criminalist Lincoln Rhyme and his partner Amelia Sachs. This time finds the pair up against not just a murderer, but a master of illusion and magic who leads them along a path of sleight of hand and disguise. Rhyme and Sachs have to rethink their whole method of following clues and are soon learning the art of misdirection and illusion the hard way .. This is a marvellous thriller which centres around the world of magic and trickery. It is written in Jeffery Deaver

  19. Hi Ray and to the forum!
  20. I finished Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson last night, it was a pretty quick read, not sure what to read next
  21. Boy you've had a rough time of lately haven't you? Sounds like the kids have been bringing home all sorts from school! Mine do that too, they get a small dose and because me or the OH are the ones it's passed on to we get a major dose! Always the way :irked: It also sounds like there's no point in you taking the antibiotics now, eardrums burst, infection over! Well that's what my doc kept saying to me, she was very anti antibiotics, as was I, they always ended up making me feel worse for some reason. At least you're not lopsided now too  I had all sorts of images going round my head!

I think I may be coming down with something myself, woke up this morning feeling really drained, sinus headache, aches and pains and one minute sweating, the next shivering! Hasn't developed so far, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed ;)

Glad you're feeling better mate

  22. Hmmm .. I have '10 Things ..' on my bookshelves. My friend lent it to me and said it was fantastic, right after she'd told me she was bawling her eyes out for the first couple of chapters!! You see a book which makes you cry doesn't seem much like fun to me However, your review was fantastic and has made me want to move it up the pile that is TBR! Thanks Steph, glad you enjoyed it
  23. Oh I'm so pleased you actually listened to me and did what you're told! Didn't I say it would be good eh? eh? Glad you ended up enjoying it The next in the series is Dime Store Magic which, along with Industrial Magic straight after, are my two favourites in the series. DSM concentrates on Paige Winterbourne, the witch, and although I was a bit sceptical as to whether I'd like it or not, I ended up loving it. I hope you do too! Great review catwoman!
  24. Hey you! I just read you had a bad ear infection, that really sucks hun :console: I've had my fair share of those and they are horrible. I hope the drum pops soon and you get some relief. Until then some cyber   Feel better soon!
