  1. Generation Dead Series ~by~ Daniel Waters Kiss Of Life When Phoebe's best friend Adam takes a bullet for her, it proves everyone right - Adam is in love with her. And now that he's come back to life, Phoebe's presence may be more important than ever. They say that a zombie can come back from death faster if they're loved...and kissed - which means Phoebe has to say goodbye to Tommy Williams, the other zombie in her life. While coaxing Adam back to reality and fending off Tommy's advances, Phoebe continues to carry on as if everything's normal. But normal has been different since American teenagers started rising from their graves. Although some try to bridge the gap between the living and the differently biotic, there are scores of people who want nothing more than to send all of the undead back to their graves. And the dead kids in Phoebe's school don't like that one bit... Another zombie read for me, this time they're on the good side though. The story continues straight on from the first book and I got totally immersed in it straight away. It was great to read how the zombification process occured through Adam's point of view and lovely to watch his relationship grow with Phoebe. Through background story we learned more about the secondary characters which I enjoyed. Great 2nd installment. 8/10 Passing Strange Karen DeSonne always passed as a normal teenager - and now that she's dead, she's still passing - this time, as alive. When her dead friends are accused of a high profile murder and forced into hiding, she has to prove their innocence. Which means doing the unthinkable and becoming the girlfriend of bionist zealot Peter Martinsburg, who she suspects of framing them. But if he finds out who Karen really is, the consequences for her will be worse than death... This book focuses on Karen, a cool and collected character from the previous books and is told mostly from her point of view. In it we get to know her a lot better and get a much better understanding of her character and why she is the way she is. I would say this installment is my favourite so far, I began to really like Karen and even began to wonder did I get it wrong about Pete, the villian. It got a bit confusing with Pete in the end with what was happening to him, and I've still got a couple of questions there. But overall a great YA read and one series that I hope will be continued. 8/10
  2. The Forest Of Hands & Teeth ~by~ Carrie Ryan Synopsis courtesy of Waterstone's In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future - between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death? I really wasn't sure about reading this one, despite great reviews, for a couple of reasons. I'm not usually a fan of apocolyptic type tales and I've an irrational fear of zombies, or in this case they're called 'The Unconsecrated'. However, I decided to approach it with an open mind as I was assured I would like it and indeed I did. The storyline was much faster paced than I'd thought it would be, which kept me wanting to read on to see what happened, resulting in me flying through it when I did eventually get the chance to read. The plot was well thought out with enough back history to make the story plausable. The characters were interesting and well rounded, although sometimes Mary would infuriate me with her unwillingness to speak up even though I understood why! I did also get rather apprehensive each time the unconsecrated appeared, but I persevered through the scenes, congratulating myself each time I did so. All in all, a surprisingly good read for me and I'm looking forward to read the next installments. 8/10
  3. Repo Men I'm not a huge fan of Jude Law, but this was actually a pretty decent movie. It did get a bit far fetched at the end, but there's a twist which explains why.
  4. Good grief, don't drop it! What if you doze off?? Get yourself a kindle light off Amazon straight away woman! (I didn't even know Bite Club was out, I take it it's just as good as the rest? )
  5. Thanks hun I forgot to say I finished Passing Strange by Daniel Waters today, possibly my favourite of the series. Thanks for the recommendation!
  6. Heartsick is near the top of my pile, in fact it was going to be my next read ..... until I got the kindle, I'm dying to read one of the books on it I downloaded, I'm so curious to see if I like using it Hope you had a lovely day in the sun So far so good, I've heard nothing but positive thoughts on it so far We're both newbies then! Glad you're pleased with it, I am too so far. Sorry to hear you've not been well, hope you're feeling a lot better now My OH bought me the kindle today and I've already downloaded 10 books ..... well, I had to try it out didn't I? I downloaded some of the free books of course: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving The Phantom Of The Opera by Gaston Leroux Dracula by Bram Stoker Dracula's Guest by Bram Stoker The Legend Of King Arthur and his Knights by James Knowles Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll Beauty and the Beast by Marie Le Prince de Beaumont The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen ... and purchased You Belong To Me by Karen Rose, which I'm going to read next, I'm a happy puppy so far! My TBR pile is going to take on a life of it's own at this rate
  7. I loved this book, it's the second in a great series. Hope you're enjoying it! Heartsick by Chelsea Cain Last To Die by Katy Brady One Scream Away by Katy Brady ... all arrived for me from Amazon yesterday. I also spent a good lot of yesterday reading about a kindle on Amazon so .... I've decided to buy one I've heard nothing but good stuff about them and even my OH said he's surprised I haven't gotten one sooner. (Is it weird that I feel like I'm betraying my paperback babies? )
  8. I finished Kiss Of Life by Daniel Waters yesterday and then started Passing Strange by the same author.
  9. Don't you mean Salems Lot?.... it scared the bejayesus outta me, mind you, I was only about 14 when I read it I remember being quite freaked out by a book called Erebus by Shaun Hutson and Burial by Graham Masterton (although I believe this one is part of a series), both quite grisly and gory though
  10. So pleased you're enjoying CofA, too. Looking forward to your thoughts on City of Glass when you read it, it's my favourite
  11. Indeed you are All credit goes to Weave for encouraging me to read about them, I'm finding it much easier to. Still can't watch anything with them in it though .... baby steps, just baby steps
  12. That was nice of him! It's a lovely book, I hope you like it I finished The Forest Of Hands & Teeth by Carrie Ryan a couple of days ago, which turned out to be great, thanks Weave! I've since started Kiss Of Life by Daniel Waters while I'm still in a zombie mood (never thought I'd ever say those words ).
  13. I finished Night Smoke by Nora Roberts and have started The Forest Of Hands & Teeth by Carrie Ryan
  14. Night Tales ~by~ Nora Roberts Night Shift The calls came like clockwork -- a cold, hate-filled voice telling late-night radio announcer Cilla O'Roarke that she was going to die. The never-ending threats had finally made her a believer. She was desperate -- desperate enough to accept police protection. Cilla preferred to keep her distance from the police, and she had her reasons. But there was something about Boyd Fletcher that made him difficult to ignore. He was strong, laconic, infuriating and clearly determined to watch over her every second of the day -- and night. And the trouble was, the more Cilla saw of her unwanted bodyguard, the more she wanted him to share the night she loved. Nightshade Colt Nightshade couldn't believe his luck partnering on a case with Lt. Althea Grayson. But the breathtaking ice goddess was strictly by-the-book. . . . The hours between dusk and dawn are filled with mystery, danger, and romance in this dark and dazzling classic tale of passion and peril by the incomparable mistress of romantic suspense. Night Smoke Ryan Piasecki: A man's man. A woman's fantasy. The kind of guy who got the job done, no matter what the obstacles...or how beautiful they were. Natalie Fletcher: Cool, calm, collected. Until someone started making trouble for her business...and he showed up. Arson investigator Ryan Piasecki came from the street, and he wasn't exactly the type to make nice with an upper-crust business executive like Natalie Fletcher. His business was fires - and his instincts told him the one at Fletcher Industries was no accident. They told him something else, too - that the sparks flying between him and this very classy lady had all the makings of a five-alarm blaze... These are 3 books out of the Night Tales series by Nora Roberts which again, I got in a bargain book shop. The covers looked promising enough and I was looking forward to a plot of crime action with a bit of romance thrown in - it was the other way around. The books were very Mills & Boonish and concentrated mostly on the romance with the crime story taking a very far back seat. They weren't too bad, actually I quite enjoyed them, even though they were very far fetched with the whole 'love at first sight' thing and 'happy ever afters'. Quick reads, no real need to be read in order as they're all pretty much the same, but not bad 'in between book' fillers as they can easily be read in a day. Not sure if I'll be buying any more though lol 6/10
  15. Unholy Ghosts ~by~ Stacia Kane Synopsis courtesy of Waterstone's: The Downside Ghosts. Murderous spirits and ruthless drug dealers combine to create serious problems for fiercely independent heroine, Chess, in these fast-paced, sexy and addictive novels -- fitting for a witch with a serious drug problem. The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen and constantly attack the living. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling Debunker and ghost hunter. She's got a real talent for nailing the human liars or banishing the wicked dead. But she's keeping a dark secret from the Church: a little drug problem that's landed her in hot and dangerous water. Chess owes a murderous drug lord named Bump a lot of money. And Bump wants immediate payback. All Chess has to do is dispatch a very nasty species of undead from an old airport. But the job involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and crossing swords with enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust with a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump's ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah. I've never read anything by Stacia Kane before, or even heard anything about her work. I picked this up in a bargain book shop and thought it looked interesting because of the blurb. I'm still not sure exactly what I thought of it. The story moved along swiftly enough and did have more than enough action to keep me entertained. However, I didn't really warm to the main character at all, which I think was the main thing putting me off the whole book. Plus the secondary characters spoke in a kind of disjointed english, which became very annoying to read. I'm not sure if I'd get the next ones in the series, perhaps if they were another bargain as I know sometimes the first of a series isn't always the best. 5/10
  16. My mother used to tell me about the ocean. The Forest of Hands and Teeth ~by~ Carrie Ryan
  17. It wasn't bad, a bit cheesy, but enjoyable nontheless Ooops! .... sorry it's messing up your reading, but .... on the other hand, I'm pleased it's still affecting you so much! Unfortunately, it's still affecting mine so I've not only read Night Shift by Nora Robers, but Nightshade too and am half way through Night Smoke now. I think I've missed one out but they're all much the same anyway, so I don't think it will matter too much At least I'm reading something eh?
  18. This weather is amazing, 24 degrees C here today! Shame my back and joint pains are putting a damper on it as usual :(

  19. I'm having the same problem. After loving Discovery of Witches so much, it took me ages to get into Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane and even when I did I found it to be just ok. I've finished it and have started Night Shift by Nora Roberts, a bit Mills & Boonish and I could probably predict the plot, but I'm hoping it will pick up
  20. Oooh, I've written the names down and will definitely check them out next time I'm looking up books. I think Kim Harrison rings a bell, but I know I haven't read anything by her. Thanks for the tips! ;)

  21. I was exactly the same after I'd finished it too for days! Only now am I starting to get into my current read. I've never heard of any of those authors, are they like Deborah Harkness? *pleasesayyespleasesayyes* lol

  22. Brilliant! I am so pleased you enjoyed DOW as much as you did Isn't Matthew wonderful? *dreamy sigh* I am really looking forward to the next installment and seeing how she writes about the characters in the past, no doubt there will be a whole host of new ones too! Just a shame we have to wait until next year
  23. You're spot on, it does! I was reading what Chesil said about it earlier with a mixture of chuffedness and relief! When so many people say they're gonna go out and spend good money on a book that you recommend, a huge hardback no less, you feel responsible if they don't enjoy it. I am so pleased that both Chesil and pickle loved it already :D Hopefully the wait will be worth it Oh do indeed and come back here and let us know what you think! Another Matthew lover too! I thought the Aunts were brilliant as well as Ysabeau and Martha, One of my favourite characters was in fact I'm delighted you enjoyed it too Oh let us know what you think, AS SOON AS you finish it!
  24. Fantastic! I'm chuffed! It's always nice when someone else endorses your views on a book I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much and fully understand how you couldn't put it down I replyed to your post on the DOW thread. Nevermind about the housework, it'll be there next weekend
  25. Oh my! I am so pleased you enjoyed it so much You loved all the things I loved about it too, only you said it much better I do agree that we have so much more to see about Matthew, although
