Ugh, Lorelai and Max, Digger, Christopher - no, no, NO! Only Luke.

What about that guy who was opening a coffee shop? Not even him?

I can't remember the name of this episode, but I just got done watching the one where Emily goes to visit Stars Hollow and gets all upset when she realizes that Rory and Lorelai lived in the Inn's potting shed when they first left Hartford.

Sometimes part of me wishes that Emily would just get the heck over all that stuff once and for all. It's such a barrier to their relationship!

Oh man I can't even believe I forgot about the coffee guy! Which episode was he in? I wonder what made the writers/producers not pursue that storyline. I will give him an 'okay.' He was better than the 3 losers, but still not as good as Luke :D.

Ditto on Emily. She could stand to take a class or two on the whole concept of lightening up.

I loved Rory and Jess. I hated Rory and Dean. Logan definitely grew on me after a while.

But I was so sad about how the whole Rory and Jess thing ended! I never wanted to believe him capable of that. I'm fairly certain I cried when I saw his bag on that bus...

As for Emily, I love her. I think she's a complex and wonderful character, although of course she creates a lot of tension. On the contrary, I find Lorelai to sometimes be childish around her. Isnt it odd how we all act like we're teenagers around our parents?

So what do you all think of Rachel? I can't say I noticed much chemistry between her and Luke, but as a character and actress, I really like her. She's so pretty and friendly and obviously a very interesting character. :)

I'm constantly amazed when I pick up on extra pop culture references every time I start rewatching the series. For example, there was a reference to Gone with the Wind's Belle Watling in one episode. Every time I 'get' another reference for the first time, I get a smug smile on my face. giggle.gif

And here's something else I just noticed for the first time. I'm partway through season 2 and just watched 'Like Mother, Like Daughter', where Rory is made to socialise more at school (which makes me sooo angry, but that's another topic). Anyway, at the end of the episode Rory sits down to lunch at her usual table and another girl with a book and headphones asks if she can sit with her. I recognised her as Madeline Zima, who plays Mia in Californication and is perhaps better known for her role as Grace (the youngest child) in The Nanny. I looked it up to make sure I was correct this time. wink.gif

Yep, it's the Californication girl alright. She also went to the nightly little thing they had where Rory got wordy with the headmaster in the end :giggle2:

I was watching some more episodes from season 7, and I'm not sure if it was my first time or not, but I was giggling when I noticed another reference: Lorelai was knitting in preparation for their Knit-athon, and Chris called her Madame Defarge

Oh, I didn't notice her earlier. blush.gif

Haha. :) Great Dickens reference there.

I finished season 2 today. I can't believe how fast I'm flying through them again!

One thing I wanted to mention here was the relationship between Jess and Paris. When they both turned up unexpectedly and had dinner with Rory, I really loved the banter between them. I wish there had been more opportunities for them to trade barbs and discuss literature. They were both so intelligent that it would have made for awesome conversations.

There's one particular Chris moment that I love in season 2. I'm not the biggest fan of Chris, but it was sooo sweet when he sent her a basket for her graduation. The items in it were so imaginative and clever. :) I wish that Luke had made an appearance in that episode, although it was great just having Lorelai's parents there. It was really nice to see them all choked up about it. smile2.gif

You are flying through the episodes, Kylie! I finished season 1 but haven't started 2 yet. I was distracted by 'My So-Called Life' and 'Being Human.' I'm going to start GG up again tonight :D. Boo on Max though!

I would've loved to have seen more interaction between Jess and Paris too. They would have had some very serious yet hilarious discussions!

I just saw Luke's daughter, April, playing a part in season 4 of Dexter. :)

I watched the first two episodes of season 2 of Gilmore Girls tonight. I like it when Chris turns up at Friday night dinner to try to talk to Lorelai, and Emily stands up for her. smile2.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

I just watched episode 19 of season 4, where Liz appears for the first time. There's an awesome Luke/Lorelai moment where Luke gives her the earrings that Liz made and said that Liz wanted her to have them (when really, Liz said he could give them to his wife or to Lorelai). Lorelai looks a bit disappointed when she realises they're not from Luke. giggle.gif

I'm midway through season 7 now. (Again).

I just love how happy Luke is about the letter Lorelai wrote for his court case, and I just love Luke in general. I just watched where Chris didn't show up when Lorelai's Dad had a heart attack, and it makes me soooo mad. Family is supposed to be there for each other!

Liz is so special! She's one of my favorite characters, and I really love the actor. I love the scene where Lorelai and Liz meet for the first time. Good times! I miss watching GG with you

Hyzenthlay, I agree with you on all those things!

I watched that last episode of the last season a week ago or so, I kept putting off watching it for a while, I was so bummed that it was going to be over and I was so bummed about a lot of things that happened during season 6-7. I was quite surprised to see how much I disliked Rory at times during these two seasons, and how much I grew to tolerate Logan. He really had a few moments of clarity when he seemed like such a bright kid, and Rory seemed like a 'ooh, that's rude'. Sorry for saying that.

I've probably complained about Emily's treatment of Lorelai on a few occasions, but there's one moment where she lets Lorelai off the hook that I quite like.

It's when the Dragonfly Inn is reviewed in a magazine and the interview is full of Lorelai slagging off Emily. When Emily reads it, Lorelai locks herself in the study and says she won't come out unless Emily agrees to forgive her and never speak of the interview again. I thought it was very big of Emily to forgive her, especially considering what was written about her for all the world to see.

I've had a whole weekend of Gilmore Girls and I've watched all of season 5 (22 episodes). :)

I really have a many favourite Emily moments. I think (I don't know if I've said this already) that she is a well-developed, complex and believable character. Genuine. And I just think the actress is so wonderful in her portrayal of it. A lot of the time she is unreasonable, but her unreasonable-ness can almost always be traced back to the hurt and abandonment she felt when her pregnant 16-year-old daughter left her to raise a child on her own. And sure, a lot of Emily's self-worth is tied up in her standing in society, but that's how her generation and social circle functions. If you put the woman in context, she really makes sense. And a lot of the time Lorelai behaves like a child around her.

For instance, when she and Christopher got a divorce and she put off telling her mother... even though Emily was planning a huge party for her.

The girl who plays April in GG is also in Dexter as the daughter of a psycho killer. :)

Hyzenthlay, I agree with most of what you said about Emily, however I don't think Lorelai was that childish. She also went through a lot and was so unhappy in her childhood, but I really think she puts more of an effort into the relationship than Emily.

When she avoids telling Emily things, particularly about her relationships, I think it's because she knows that Emily will react badly and make her feel worse.

What about when Lorelai and Max became engaged? Lorelai didn't tell Emily for ages because she knew that Emily would bring her down. Remember Emily's reaction? She said something like 'well, I hope we'll be in town for your wedding'. Admittedly she was hurt at not being told earlier, but that was such a mean reaction. :(

Hyzenthlay, well said about Emily! When I first watched the series she was probably my least favorite main character. Then I grew up a little I suppose and started to understand the reasons behind her being and acting the way she does.

Yes but wouldn't you agree that she's only making it worse by not telling her straight away and face to face? There are a few times when Emily hears about Lorelai's big events from someone else. How embarrassing and hurtful is that :(

Part way through Season 5 now and I'm enjoying it more with every episode. Glad of a certain relationship coming about, although I'm not sure how long that'll last. It's interesting to see how Rory's grown up; at first it's a gradual transformation that I barely even noticed happen but now she just seems to much older. Not sure if that's just me being weird there. In any case, looking forward to tackling the last few seasons as I'm sure there are plenty more awesome moments to come.

Ooooh season 5, good stuff! Well at least in that one particular relationship aspect. Enjoy! :smile2:

*is excited* Thanks, I'm sure I will, hehe.

Can one of our American friends please tell me what a 401K is? There has been talk of a job offering and a lot of references to 401Ks. Thanks! smile.gif

Isn't it like a retirement pension? I'm not sure but think it's something along those lines.

Ah, thanks Ben. That would seem to make sense because they were talking about 401Ks being responsible or something (I guess they meant it was responsible to plan for your future).

I'm watching episode 19 of season 7. I can't believe I'm so close to the end again. :(

Yeah, a 401K is for retirement. Its through your employer though (you can't just walk into the bank and set one up). The consumer version that you can get at the bank is an IRA. 401Ks are like IRAs in the sense of saving for the future and early withdrawl penalties, but most employers will match up to a percentage of what you put into your 401K. My employer will match 6%, so if I put in 100.00, they will also put in 100.00. Its all invested into stocks and bonds so depending on the market it will go up and down.

Can you tell I used to work with these? :)

Thanks Abby. I guess that's what we call our superannuation over here. How cool am I that I even wrote it correctly? cool.gif I wasn't sure if there was a space or hyphen or whether K was capitalised. I rock! (Sorry, but I'm a complete grammar/spelling nerd.)

So do you know what the K stands for? Or what 401 represents?

I just watched the episode where Lorelai sings karaoke. OMG. I love it! One of the loveliest Luke/Lorelai moments. wub.gif I must be in a really sentimental mood or something because I'm really loving Logan at the moment too. And even April. And Paris and Doyle.

Haha, everyone here is lazy, we just type 401K with a large K because the *real* way to write it is 401(k). Who uses paranthesis (spl?) with one letter though?

I wasn't sure about the name so I wiki'ed it and found out the name is in relation to the IRS code it comes from. Nothing special, just a code. They are nice though. I don't know anything about the Australian or British governments, but here when you hit retirement age people get Social Security checks monthly to pay for their living expenses. Because of the way the government is being run and the baby boomers being such a numerous generation my generation will not recieve Social Security, it will all run out by then. My 401K is literally the most important thing I own. *is a dork*

End of lecture.

I'm glad you guys have something similar down there. Its very good to plan for the future! You never know what will happen!

Real end of lecture.

Lorelai singing karaoke sounds hilarious! Sadly, I haven't seen much of season 7 yet, but they are playing it on reruns now so I'm hoping to *finally* see the end!
