    Your Age?

It's not so bad. I just turned 40 and I didn't suddenly become old like I thought I would. This gives me hope!
  2. Finished Storm Front by Jim Butcher. It wasn't great literature, but it was fun. Reading Howard's End by E.M. Forster now.
  3. I re-arranged my bookshelves today and created more space.
  4. Finished Centuries of June by Keith Donohue, which was excellent. I'm now reading Storm Front by Jim Butcher. Also received The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye in the mail today.
  5. I see no thread for this author and I think he is one others might like here. I hope his books are easily available in the UK. Here is my review of Centuries of June. Description from Amazon: Set in the bathroom of an old house just before dawn on a night in June, Centuries of June is a black comedy about a man who is attempting to tell the story of how he ended up on the floor with a hole in his head. But he keeps getting interrupted by a series of suspects—eight women lying in the bedroom just down the hall. Each woman tells a story drawn from five centuries of American myth and legend in a wild medley of styles and voices. Centuries of June is a romp through history, a madcap murder mystery, an existential ghost story, and a stunning tour de force at once ingenious, sexy, inspiring, and ultimately deeply moving. My thoughts: This books had just the right amount of humor mixed in with philosophy. At first, you will wonder how these stories the women have to tell relate to the main character. And who is the strange, yet familiar, older gentleman that appears in his bathroom? It all comes together at the end in an unexpected way. I want to say more, but I will give away the main theme of the novel, and I don't want to do so. Hint: The title has a lot to do with the theme. Another great read from Keith Donohue. Also, if you are intrigued, check out Angels of Destruction and The Stolen Child by the same author as they are equally compelling. 5/5 stars from me
  6. I visited your profile today, and it would be rude of me not to say hello. So, hello. :) The Kindle is great, isn't it?

  7. Received in the mail today: Cakes and Ale and The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham Still reading Centuries of June by Keith Donohue and it is still excellent.
  8. Finds life, the universe, and everything very confusing at the moment.

  9. Great review, Maureen. I just added this one to my wish list!
  10. It is too bad it's not available on Kindle. Very few of his books are. It wouldn't hurt to contact the publisher and request that it be made available in e-book format.
  11. I am almost half way through Centuries of June by Keith Donohue and I LOVE it! I'm not surprised. I found The Stolen Child and Angels of Destruction to be excellent as well. I think I will review this one when I am done.
  12. Downloaded Centuries of June by Keith Donohue to my Kindle today and will start reading it soon.
  13. BloodyNine, I used to have the same feelings on this as you do. But, now that I have a Kindle, there are some things about it I like better than physical books. It's easier to hold, I don't have to worry about the binding eventually falling apart, it's actually easier on my near-sightedness than a paper copy, I can take it with me anywhere easily, and I'm finding it easier to become immersed in the book, as I am not counting the page numbers (there aren't any!). But, I still do love physical books as well. I like the way they feel and smell. I love the beauty of them on my bookshelves. So now I have room in my heart for both. It's awesome!
  14. Don't worry, Knox. I'm not giving up on it. I'm just not in the mindset for this type of story at the moment.
  15. I think you will love it, Hyzenthlay! So glad so see someone else interested.
  16. Okay, changed my mind again. I will not let my lost mojo win, though. I will find the right book. I'm going to try Doc by Mary Doria Russell.
  17. Okay, changed my mind. Still reading The Passage.
  18. I'm giving up on The Passage by Justin Cronin for now. It's not that it's awful. I am just not in the mind-set for it at the moment. I'm going to try The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, as this book seems like it will fit my current state of mind.
  19. Of course it is. My opinion is always correct.
  20. Things are rather stressful here, some good, some bad. I am in Florida. I see you are from Connecticut. How are things with you?

  21. Thinks I have more courage then I give myself credit for.

  23. Nice to meet you, too, Sofia. :)

I hope you are enjoying In The Country of Last Things. I thought it was excellent.
