Thank you, poppy. It has. :)

  3. Thank you so much, Ophelia. That site looks excellent. I think I will be spending some time there in the near future. Welcome, Cherbs. One thing that does bother me about Kindle are some of the prices publishers set. Don't they know that they could make the big bucks off of someone like me? I'm the type of reader that will pay up to $5.00 for the Kindle version to see if I like the book, and if it's a keeper shell out the money for the physical copy so it will look pretty on my bookshelf. I think they may wise up in the not to distant future, though, and lower e-book prices considerably.
  4. Thank you, Abby. I'm sure I will.
  5. The final decision was made when I realized how many classics I could get for nothing or next to nothing. AND, I know House of Silence by Linda Gillard will be worth every penny I spent for it.
  6. Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I simply don't have the time. I am reading Virgin Earth by Philippa Gregory and really enjoying it. Also, my very first Kindle is on it's way, and I have already purchased a few e-books (I do have Kindle for PC already), including the complete works of Charles Dickens, Joseph Conrad, Edgar Allen Poe, and Hans Christian Andersen. How could I resist when they cost next to nothing? Also have Linda Gillard's House of Silence, of course!
  7. My Kindle is on it's way! I can't believe those words actually came from me.
  8. A new Kindle for $114.00 (Sorry for the US currency, but that's where I live. Damn Yank, I know!) is being released on May 3rd. My birthday is May 13th. Are the powers that be trying to tell me something? I'm tempted...
  9. I've never seen Babylon 5, although I have always wanted to. May have to look into that soon. All writers are plagiarists. At least the modern ones are. Guy Gavriel Kay is a great author. I have read The Lions of Al-Rassan, Tigana, and The Last Light of the Sun and have more of his to be read. He hasn't disappointed me so far.
  10. Yes, love him! He is rather dark and strange, but also brilliant and philosophical and not difficult to read. If you would like to try him, a good book to try would be Deathbird Stories, which contains some of his best like "Deathbird" and "The Whimper of Whipped Dogs". It's available in e-book format at a very reasonable price. Neil Gaiman's American Gods was influenced by some of these stories. Unfortunately, a lot of his works are out of print.
  11. I just bought The Essential Ellison: A 50 Year Retrospective which contains much of Harlan Ellison's best work. It was a bit expensive, as it is out of print and I had to do some searching to find a decent copy, but it was worth it. Won't be purchasing any more books for awhile.
  12. I couldn't even get that far. I gave up on it. For me to get into a book, I need characters I can relate to. The author has an annoying habit of telling the reader how a character feels, rather than showing the reader through their actions and interactions. Therefore, I could never really believe that these people were real and actually cared about one another. That will put me off a book more than anything else. Going to try Labyrinth by Kate Mosse next.
  13. I see what you mean. I am almost half way through. The book seemed interesting at first and a part of me finds the plot intriguing, but the cardboard characters are putting me to sleep. I may give up on it soon.
  14. OMG! A tornado set my house down in OZ!

  15. A few more I am looking forward to: The Five by Robert McCammon Centuries of June by Keith Donohue IQ84 by Haruki Murakami Sing You Home (paperback) by Jodi Picoult
  16. Finished the Complete Short Fiction of Oscar Wilde and I adored it! Just started Black Sun Rising, the first in the Cold Fire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman.
  17. I will definitely let you know, Weave. I should be reading it some time soon and definitely The Forest of Hands and Teeth soon as well. Noted. Do not read at night. I have seen the original film, and it didn't really scare me. However, I have heard that the book is better, and I get more creeped out by books than films, anyway.
  18. I never thought I would do this, but I just downloaded Kindle for PC and purchased House of Silence in e-book format. I very much want to read it, and if I have to do it on my computer screen, so be it. The pleasure of reading your story will make up for the headache staring at the screen will give me. I agree with you. I don't think e-books are proper books, either. Unmarketable? How ridiculous. There are many books out there these days that don't fit into any specific genre. I often find those are the best kind, as they can appeal to multiple types of people.
  19. Purchased at the bookstore today: The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson Dimiter by William Peter Blatty The Forest of Hands and Teeth and The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan I was in a horror mood.
  20. King of Limbs by Radiohead. I'm rather disappointed with it.
  21. Thank you for this great review, Chrissy. I wanted to read this anyway, as I loved Emotional Geology so much, and after reading your review I know I would love it. I do so hope it comes out in paper format. I usually only buy paperbacks, but I would even get this one in hardcover if I had to. I already have Linda's other three books on my shelf, and I would love to add this one.
  22. I would be one of them! I have been reading lately, just haven't had much time to post here. Currently reading Complete Stories by Oscar Wilde. Loving it so far!
  23. I hope there will eventually be a paper copy of this book, as I don't have a Kindle.
  24. Sorry I haven't been around and posting. I'm just too busy. Life is very stressful at the moment. I hope everyone is well and enjoying their reading! :)

  25. I think the book might be Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. I do know it has a suicide cult, a journalist on an airplane, and it's told in the first person.
