  1. I am yet another one who gave up on House of Leaves. For me, it was all gimmick and very little substance. I sold my copy but I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of someone who could get through it. Perhaps there was something in there worth the headache.
  2. I am half way through A Discovery of Witches and still loving it.
  3. Has anyone read The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley? It keeps popping up on amazon's list of books I might like, and it looks interesting.
  4. Thank you, Kylie and Weave. I hope you find your book, Kylie.

Pepperoni, Italian sausage, and extra cheese! :)

  6. Yes, as of right now, I am pretty sure I am putting Deborah Harkness down on my list of authors to purchase in the future. Yes, I have a list. No, don't ask me how long it is. Anyway, today I purchased for my Kindle: Doc by Mary Doria Russell Mort by Terry Pratchett Well, actually, I used to a $20 amazon gift card my sister sent me for my birthday, which is today.
  7. Read seven chapters so far of A Discovery of Witches and it is a a page turner.
  8. Just finished Chapter 7 of this book, and so far it is a page turner.
  9. I'm glad I read Reaper Man first. After that one, I tried The Colour of Magic and couldn't even finish it. I decided to start with Equal Rites and omit the first two, as not everybody who loves the series seems to recommend those first ones. I will definitely continue with the series and Mort is next on my list.
  10. I just purchased A Discovery of Witches for my Kindle, and will start reading it very soon. I haven't finished The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge yet. Sometimes, I am not in the mood to read an entire book of short stories, so I read a few and will get back to it at another time.
  11. I just finished Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett. It was decent, but not as good as the first I read by him, which was Reaper Man. I will be starting on The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge next. After that will be A Discovery of Witches.
  12. I'm going to download this one soon to my Kindle. All the positive comments about it have made me curious.
  13. Just downloaded: The Collected Works of Alexandre Dumas The Collected Works of E.M. Forster The Collected Works of Jules Verne These cheap collections of the classics for Kindle are awesome. They will also ensure that I never get through my TBR pile.
  14. You will love it, Charm. I felt the same way as you, as if I was betraying my paperbacks. But, it's only been one day since I received my Kindle, and it's not a betrayal. The Kindle is a great companion to my paper books. They go so nicely together. I was afraid I wouldn't like the Kindle, but it took so little time to figure out and the screen is amazing and easy on my poor eyesight. I love the thing already! To Kylie: Me? Sensible? Now that is funny. To Kylie and Frankie: Yes, that was a great haul! Just finished reading A Story by Hans Christian Andersen and have started Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett.

    hello all

Welcome, Tish. I don't really like books myself. I just got lost one day browsing the internet and ended up here and they wouldn't let me leave.

    Hello

Hi, Rob. Welcome! Only 565, huh? Don't worry, you will catch up.

    Hi everyone

Only the coloured ones. The silver ones are simply silly.
  19. I hope you don't mind that I am laughing at you, Kylie. I only laugh because what Raven said could also apply to me.
  20. Thank you so much for your input, everyone. Some very useful information. I will definitely do some browsing in Amazon's Kindle section for the sales and specials, and also check out the free samples. I just thought of something. I have read a few of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels that I enjoyed, but never got around to getting all of them because they would take up too much shelf space. Welllll....
  21. Anyone know of any cheap Kindle books they would like to recommend? Any genre is fine, but I already have the classics covered.
  22. Oh, no, no. No storms here, thank goodness! It's a family crisis type of thing. But I'm coping.

  23. I just wanted to say hi and hope things are okay with you. :) My life has been constant stress lately, but I'm learning to cope with it. Take care of yourself. You are a warm, wonderful person. Don't forget that!

    Hi everyone

Hello, Waits. Welcome. I have others hobbies too. I make sock puppets and collect paper clips. Not simultaneously, though.
