  1. I'm actually partial to their later albums myself. My favorite is Presto, which has the title track, Show Don't Tell, The Pass, and Available Light that Karsa mentioned. Other albums that I think are great by Rush: Vapor Trails Test For Echo Counterparts Grace Under Pressure Hold Your Fire Moving Pictures Permanent Waves 2112 A Farewell to Kings I never cared for Power Windows, though. Sorry, Karsa.
  2. Have you read Robin Hobb's Faseer Trilogy? It fits your criteria to a tee. If you enjoy that, it continues with The Tawny Man Trilogy with the same main protagonist.
  3. My dad just passed away.

Thank you again, everyone. I appreciate all your kind thoughts.

  4. Granted, but the only book available is one that you absolutely loathe. I wish junk food was good for me.
  5. Reading Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier. It is quite good.
  6. Here is the thing about Rush. Everybody knows that Geddy Lee doesn't have the best singing voice you ever heard, but he has gotten better over time. But the musicianship of this band is phenomenal, and I personally think Neil Peart is a brilliant lyricist and also the hardest working drummer out there. I just listened to Watershed by Opeth twice, once over the speakers, and once with my headphones to personalize it. If this is NOT their best album, I am really looking forward to purchasing the rest of their catalog. This album was absolutely gorgeous. I am in awe. I was worried that because their songs were so long, they would be like Dream Theater, who are amazing technically, I guess, but bore me to tears. I wasn't bored once listening to the Opeth album.
  7. They have so far. I have read the first three. Almost finished with Bite Me: A Love Story by Christopher Moore. Funny as all hell!
  8. I've been reading every day, but lately it's taking forever to get through a book. A 300 page novel should not take a week to get through. :(

  9. Steven Wilson's voice has that effect on me. Hey, at least I didn't say that about Geddy Lee's voice. I agree! I'm about to listen to Opeth's album Watershed, which arrived in the mail today. I will do so right after dinner.
  10. When I order a "NEW" CD through the mail, and it arrived RE-shrink-wrapped with smudges, dust, and a hair on the CD. And then I go through the seller's feedback, and see a few other buyers with the same issue and the seller responds to their complaints with an "I'm innocent. How am I supposed to know when I bought it that it was used?" By the very obvious fact that is was RE-shrink-wrapped. That's how you tell. Either you bought it that way, and it's easy to tell whether the wrapping is new on CDs. Or you did it yourself, which is what I am putting my money on. That is something that really bugs me.
  11. People that complain about other people's faults, but never take the time to look at their own. Are you reading this, sis? And now, I know I am being rude complaining about my sister behind her back, so I am looking at my own faults.
  12. Really looking forward to receiving those two albums now. I love discovering new music! (Well, new to me, anyway.) Listening to Devlab by Devin Townsend at the moment. It's very different, but I can't say what I really think of it yet.
  13. I'm glad I have never seen this movie. I LOVED the book!
  14. Reading Grave Peril by Jim Butcher. It's the third book in the Dresden files, and the series continues to get better.
  15. I listened and liked. I have decided to give Opeth a real try, because I realized that I love Devin Townsend, and he uses those "death growls", which I quite enjoy when it's not all the time. I realized that Opeth doesn't do it all the time, either. So I found really cheap new copies of Watershed and Ghost Reveries and they are on the way. If I like those, I see that I can get quite a bit of their back catalog in cheap boxed sets. Nice! I have a feeling Opeth is a band that I will learn to love on multiple listens, which happens with me sometimes.
  16. 3000 Days by Pineapple Thief, courtesy of Karsa's link. Hmmm, it does remind me of Radiohead a bit, but a better version of them. It doesn't really remind me of Porcupine Tree at all, which is good, because I don't want to hear a PT clone. Oh, by the way. I have listened to a bit of Opeth. I like the music, but I guess growling vocals are not my thing.
  17. I loved the Hyperion and Endymion series. Hope you enjoy those. Never heard of Catalina's Riddle, but it sounds interesting.
  18. I read a lot of horror, and these are authors and books I would definitely recommend: Richard Adam's The Girl in a Swing Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes William P. Blatty's The Exorcist Anything by Douglas Clegg, but a good book to start with would be Neverland or Nightmare House John Harwood's The Ghost Writer Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House Henry James' The Turn of the Screw Dean Koontz's The Bad Place or Midnight Richard Matheson's I Am Legend or Hell House Dan Simmon's Song of Kali or The Terror Anything by Peter Straub, but a good book to start with is Ghost Story
  19. I'm with frankie. We three should hang out together. And frankie is not only person you know who thinks that. My newest discovery is Devin Townsend. Awesome!!!!
  20. Reading You Suck: A Love Story by Christopher Moore and really enjoying it. It's light and at times can be very funny.
  21. What is black and white and red all over? A blushing zebra. Why did the mouse cross the road? Because it was stapled to the chicken.
  22. I will not worry. I will not worry. I will not worry. Why worry? What does it solve? Nothing! :-)
