  1. At the moment i'm listening to my daughters High School Musical dancemat as my youngest has dragged it out of the cupboard & is jumping up & down on it .....arrrghhh!!!!!!
  2. Good for you I find it helps if i set myself a target of reading so many a pages a day.
  3. I don't think they should be allowed to have a child by surrogate or any other way it's incredibly selfish of them.
  4. Hi welcome to the Forum
  5. That's the first book that came into my head when i saw the thread. We read it at school & although i can't remember that much about it now(such a long time ago lol ) I do remember really liking it.
  6. I'm reading The Faraway Tree Enid Blyton to my youngest daughter she's 6. The chapters are short enough to read one a night, not many pics though. Previous to that we read The Wishing Chair which she also loved. I'd also recommend The Borrowers & The Five Children & It E. Nesbit.
  7. Totally agree with not censoring what children read. I can remember being told by my teacher that i couldn't read Papillon in class reading time as she didn't think it was suitable & she tried to make me read Cider with Rosie instead I have always read to my children & most of them are keen readers now although my eldest son prefers the computer & Xbox to reading. I tried lots of things when he was younger different authors, comic type books, story tapes & non fiction but nothing seemed to grab him so i've just accepted that reading is not his thing.
  8. I used to have a little felt bookmark that one of the children made for me but somehow it ended up in the washing machine & came out all shriveled up so i had to throw it away So now i just use anything that's handy, at the moment i've got one that came free with a book i sent off for.
  9. Spaghetti with Mozzarella, sundried tomatoes & basil.
  10. Hallelujah John Cale
  11. I agree love Creedence listen to them all the time on my Ipod. I prefer Devo's version of Satisfaction to the Rolling Stones also John Cale's Hallelujah to Leonard Cohens.
  12. What age are your children ?
  13. Well it's not really very old but i've got a 1972 copy of Bottersnikes & Gumbles by S.A. Wakefield, now out of print, which i bought on Ebay. It's a book i loved as a child & wanted to read it to my own kids & i have to say it's as good as i remember
  14. Chickpea Balti & sweet potatoes
  15. I have a huge backlog of unread books as i buy them faster than i can read so sometimes i'll choose depending on my mood but sometimes it's because i've had a book so long i feel i ought to read it:blush:
  16. I didn't throw it them away just chucked them in the charity bag Suspicions of Mr Wicher Kate Summerscale . It sounded so good on the back but was like reading an over long essay. Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood Rebecca Wells. It got lots of rave reviews on Amazon but was so sugary sweet it made me want to vomit.
  17. Yep i'd agree with Stephen King i read a lot of his stuff when i was younger & really liked it but i think the last one i read was the Black House i stuck it out to the end but a lot of the dialogue made me cringe it was so overly sentimental.
  18. It's very rare that our house is totally quiet so i've got used to reading with the TV on. I often read while i'm cooking in the kitchen or if i go out i'll take my book to read on the bus or in the doctor's waiting room. Ideally i'd love to be able to go to bed early & curl up with a good book but our youngest still sleeps in our room so that's not possible.
  19. Love Friday nights as it's Vampire night, Vampire Diaries & then True Blood, can't believe the series ends next week Friday nights wont be the same without it
  20. Licking the out the bowl when i make a cake instead of giving it to the kids Reading my teenage daughters copy of Closer on the sly even though i tell her it's a load of c**p
  21. Thanks everbody, lovely to get such a friendly welcome

  23. 1) Wuthering Heights Emily Bronte 2) The Little Friend Donna Tartt 3) The Secret History Donna Tartt 4) Pillars of the Earth Ken Follett 5) To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee
  24. Leek, mushroom & lemon risotto, it's a new recipe so here's hoping that the kids don't turn their noses up at it
  25. My sister passed this book on to me & i was a bit dubious at first as Ken Follet isn't an author i'd usually go for but i couldn't put it down & found when i wasn't reading it i was thinking about it all the time. I would definitely put Pillars of the Earth & it's sequel World without End in my top ten.
