  1. Okay, so, working in a bookshoppe will break me! I just got the entire set:mrgreen:. I can read and pay on them forEVER, this may be my Christmas present to myself;)
  2. Just finished The Other Boyelyn Girl! What a fantastic read. Now Im starting Someone Knows My Name, by Lawrence Hill. Looks like a really great read!
  3. ~Andrea~ that just says enough. Thank you! I'll pass it on to my family!

  4. Chrissy you are just so sweet, I wish I could hug you! Thank you so much!

  5. My Bible and The Other Boylen Girl. Should be able to get quit a bit read today.
  6. I'm onto my next Phillipa Gregory book, The Other Boylen Girl. I think I might be hooked:mrgreen:
  7. I know, I just realized after I started that it was read out of order, but one thing I'll say about PG, her work is so thorough that even when read out of order, its easy to figure out where you are.
  8. I just picked this book up last night after finishing The Boylen Inheritance. These books are utterly enthrawling (sp?)!
  9. Finishing up The Boylen Inheritance!
  10. :)Julia! I'm not big on gritty and graphic. I'm very sedate in what I read for the most part. I love snuggling with "comfort" books that are smooth and mellow. I dont know, I just feel a deep sense of contentment when I read such books, the mystery is there but without foul language and unnecessarily graphic sex and I've found that the British authors of the past are the masters of such work!
  11. I'm over half way through The Boylen Inheritance. A very good read!
  12. Wow, interesting. Good thing I LOVE my skin tone:blush: being a Black American with Native ancestry. I find them both equally gorgeous. Five Facts: 1. I was a police officer but have spent the last 10 years as a homemaker 2. I am the mother of 4 and grandmama to a 17 month and one on the way. 3. I'm a southerner 4. I homeschool 5. I'm a Black American with Native ancestry
  13. Julia, its funny you should say that because I dont read American (I'm American) books because I think they are too gritty, cold and graphic! I LOVE mysteries written by British authors because of the cozyness you get, the sense of the village, the people, the language.
  14. Here's what I'm reading today. The Bible! The Boylen Inheritance
  15. I'm reading The Boleyn Inheritance. Henry VIII truly was a monster. Phillipa does a great job describing the smell of his wounded leg and just his overall grossness!
  16. All I can ask is this, did these "rational" beings give a @#& about the pain, torture and cruelty that they inflicted on the VICTIMS?! If they have so little value for another human life, why should we foot the bill to keep them alive when they dont even show REMORSE for what they've done? Right now, our country is dealing with a betrayal. A man sworn to serve his country and protect his fellow service members opened fire ON a military base, killed 13 and wounded 30 more. He was a mental health professional and knew the signs of mental illness. He didnt want to go to Afghanistan or Iraq so he did the unthinkable. What do we do with him? He wasnt killed, he's in stable condition. Now we have to deal with the tragedy that he inflicted. What about the victims? What about their families? If capitol punishment is inhuman and keeping them confined for the rest of their natural lives is cruel what are the alternatives? The problem is that most of these offenders KNOW and UNDERSTAND that in the event that they get caught, they will have YEARS of appeals, attorneys and time. You dont hear about many who are remorseful for what they've done, they are only sorry they got caught and then they plead "my father wasnt in the home, my mom worked, I was picked on in school, my dog died, I had to wear second hand clothing, I was made to eat broccoli and I HATE broccoli, my girlfriend broke up with me, my wife left me, I lost my job, etc...". There HAS to be an ulitmate punishment for reckless killing. And personally, my life and the lives of my family require more than some one sitting behind bars, getting cable, free medical, three hots and a cot and visitations from THEIR FAMILIES. No, community service doesnt cut it.
  17. He'd love to send a kiss across the pond for you!
  18. Funny you should mention Pat Conroy. He's a featured author at the bookshoppe where I work. He did a booksigning on Halloween. Such a sweet man. I always get a kiss on the cheek when he comes in!

  20. It does amaze me how someone so young feels the need to "share their life story" I mean, WHAT life?! I've got underwear thats been around longer than some of these kids. And the "celebrity" stars thing is a joke. What have you done?
  21. I recorded the History Channel's Boudica special. She was a fascinating queen!
  22. I just came across some of her books while at work yesterday. The covers are all very rich and decadent looking and I do believe that I WILL be reading her book. Its funny how her work seems to be split down the middle between historical fiction and biographies. They all seem like they should be shelved together.
  23. I'm about half way through Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follet) and Sarum (Edward Rutherfurd) They are both excellent historical fiction writers. The only problem is that I have to put them down from time to time. In the time it takes to read through their books, I could have read at lest TWO! I've also hoarded a few Phillipa Greggory books. Bernard Cornwall sound right up my alley also. Have any of you read Alison Weir?
  24. King gives me the creeps:tong: You REALLY have to wonder about a man with such a dark, scarey imagination. I mean, this man really has a twisted.
  25. I avoid books with gratiuitous (sp) violence and sex. There are books at the bookshoppe where I work that I just dont even want to TOUCH! I opened one book and dang if the first paragraph wasnt full of cursing. Another book was nothing but sex (after the first page of skimming I tossed it) I mean, really, where is the plot?! I dont read goth, Twilight, or ANY vamp books, sick of it, satanic or otherwise "dark" books. I dont know, I just like to pick what I let "enter my spirit" so to speak.
