  1. I honestly dont know if I could concentrate if it were completely quiet.
  2. Here's another question:D Would you say you have ALWAYS been a reader, or are you a "converted" reader (started late)? If you are a "convert" how old where you and what book triggered your love for reading at the more advanced age? I didnt care for reading when I was in elementary school. I was a "slow" reader, but one summer before moving to Virginia, I had lots of time on my hands, and so I started reading. My reading level jumped from 3rd grade to 7th grade level over one summer. I've been a reader ever since. I believe the book that caught me was Little Women.
  3. I honestly cant remember the last time I read in complete silence. There is ALWAYS somone home and they ALWAYS have something on and with my grandwobbler constantly on the prowl, I have learned (long ago) how to read with all the noise, or else I'd never read.
  4. Sorry Roxi, one day (hope springs eternal) I'll get this thing right!
  5. Can you read with your telly or radio on or does it have to be completely silent?
  6. why do I hear the theme song from CSI whenever I read these posts!?!!
  7. Our bookshoppe just recieved a small shipment of the new Dan Brown book, Lost Symbol. Anybody planning to read it? It wont be released til Tuesday.
  8. My first job was working at IBM in the cafeteria! I was 16 years old and spending the summer with family in New Jersey. Talk about working hard for the money?!
  9. Chicken from the rotisseri, hubby is an excellent cook. Not sure what the veggies will be, maybe we'll just be carnivores today!
  10. Sorry, was I talking about you? As far as I'm concerned, we have nothing else to say to each other.
  11. I really think you'll enjoy this book. After I finished it, it was like coming out of a dream, so realistic, so rich in characters and the settings were breathtaking.
  12. My bookshoppe is independent and of a fairly eclectic variety. We do classify our subjects. As we have a decent amount of Goth authors we have to keep these books together. Our dedicated customers would stroke out if we intergrated these with say, SyFi! Our dedicated romance is just that, mysteries the same way. We have an "urban" section (African American authors) that really ticks me off because I have always felt that it limits the readers choices. But then, thats the only thing the die hard urban readers will read. I did wear down the manager and got her to remove the Af. Am. Christian authors be placed with the other Christian authors, the same with bios and non-fiction. Its insulting to have all the Af. Am. authors lumped together when they too write in different genres. Our system is simple, top 10 front and center or in the window, new releases at the door as you come in (if they make the 10, they are moved) new SyFi gets placed in the proper section facing out, our customers understand this means its a new release.
  13. Vanwa, its the series thats on BBC, unfortunately, I dont know the "stars" name.
  14. What REALLY use to bug me is when people who you dont know and who wouldnt have the balls to be obnxious in your face, use the internet (boards, blogs, etc) to be a pompous, rude, nasty little ferrett. Honestly, it doesnt get my knickers in a knot like it use to because once you remember that those people are essentually cowards, you squash it like the little cockroach it is and move on. In an age where we have less "human" contact and more virtual contact, we have somehow managed to forget all that "home" training (i.e. manners) at our parents/grandparents knee. We say anything and hide behind the computer screen. I make it my business to not say anything on the computer that cant be said face to face. That being said, I have no reason to attack anyones beliefs, thoughts, feelings or comments. Direct and unprovoked attacks, especially made slyly and deliberately show not intellect but just plain stupidity and ignorance. Which may be a reason why they are friendless. But, thats just what bugs ME!
  15. I cant hold out til Christmas. Every cloudy, rainy day will make me want to clonk down in front of the flat screen and watch it.
  16. Thanks for the welcome!

  17. Well now that you mention it, I could read books tireless, if they are set in places filled with elves such as those from Rivendale. Oh and of course the all wizarding community outside Hogwarts. But they must all have a "homey" feel to them.
  18. Here's a question. Are there any particular places, settings, countries that where you like your books/stories to take place? I mean, I love reading books set in English villages, Ireland and Scotland (pretty much any place U.K.) in a rural area. When I read books that are set in the US, I tend to pick books that are small town or have a village feel (At Home in Mitford, Jan Karon, type of stuff)
  19. Still reading English Country House Murders. Started yesterday and after many interruptions, I am on the second story! A Marriage Tragedy by Wilkie Collins. Now, if only the costumers would leave me be so I can READ!!!
  20. Forgot to add LOTR's!!! Now, personally, I think ini some instances, the movie was better than the book, because the action/fighting was really good but not overly long.
  21. How much is that in American dollars?
  22. I've never done Torchwood. I would like to attempt Robin Hood, but I can never catch it from the very beginning.
  23. I tell you, sometimes its like Christmas on my bookshelf! Great Celtic read. You REALLY feel as though your right there. By Morgan Llywelyn King, warrior, and lover Brian Boru was stronger, braver, and wiser than all other men--the greatest king Ireland has ever known. Out of the mists of the country's most violent age, he merged to lead his people to the peak of their golden era. His women were as remarkable as his adventures: Fiona, the druidess with mystical powers; Deirdre, beautiful victim of a Norse invader's brutal lust; Gormlaith, six-foot, read-haired goddess of sensuality. Set against the barbaric splendors of the tenth century, this is a story rich in truth and legend-in which friends become deadly enemies, bedrooms turn into battlefields, and dreams of glory are finally fulfilled. Morgan Llywelyn has written one of the greatest novels of Irish history.
  24. I found this oldy on my bookshelf this morning. Another one to add to my TBR list this winter. Anybody heard of it? Edited by Mike Ashley Editorial Reviews Review Ever since Rahab the harlot provided a safe-house for those Israeli agents and Susanna's barrister confounded the randy elders, history has been a fertile field for detection. A locked-room mystery in pre-history, a sagacious magistrate in early China, a private eye in ancient Rome, Ellis Peters's witch trial, an astute cowboy on the ranges - the choice, some pulp included, is excellent. (Kirkus UK) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Product Description A companion to the Mammoth Book of Historical Whodunnits contains more fictional detectives--including monastic investigators Brother Cadfael and Sister Fidelma, cowboy sleuth Ben Snow, and newcomers William Shakespeare and Hans Christian Andersen. Original.
  25. As I'm a BIG LOTRs fan and HP fan, I had to purchase the extended version of LOTR's. ALL OF THEM:smile2: I can sit and watch them all, back to back. My family thinks I'm nuts, this just confirms it. Harry Potter, however is NOT in extended edition. This bothers me as I've SEEN the first two movies in extended form. I love them. What I dont understand is why they arent on DVD yet. I've heard rumors that they may be available near the end of the year. That would be great because I'm holding up approximately 8 hours of recording time on my DVR! I've been able to record them and save them but I would much rather have them in CD form. So, can you actually sit through a marathon of extended epic movies in one sitting? And, do you have the extended version of HP available?
