  1. I havent had much time to read more than a few chapters this week. I put Sarum aside (as much as I enjoyed it) because I was getting a little burned out reading the same book. Last week I ordered a book called We're Still Here. Its about the Virginia Indians. I'm really interested in Native American history as its come to my attention that I have a few ancestors that we're NA on my mother's side and I believe we have a few on my father's side.
  2. The majority of books in my library are fiction, classics and historical fiction. The non-fiction that I have been collecting are books on Native American history/lifeways and culture, African American History and anything dealing with the history of the U.K.
  3. Contemporary Gospel (Kirk Frankin, Mary Mary, The Williams Brothers) Anything Jazz Anita Baker Sade India Ari (sp) Josh Stone Erika Badu Enya Anything that has a mystical newagy sound to it Soundtracks to LOTR!!! Celtic Women Native American music
  4. I use to give my books to thrift stores and such but not anymore. I'd rather get rid of clothing and knicknacks than a beloved book. When I think of the money I have spent in replacing somehing that I should never have tossed! Most of those books I got on the cheap, only to have to pay retail later on to replace them! My babies are staying home from here on out!
  5. No doubt about it here, Harry Potter!
  6. Havent made much headway this weekend so I guess I'll get cracking with Sarum sometime today while I'm at work!
  7. Why do authors write under a psuedo and then put their names on the cover? I mean, really? WHY DO THEY DO THAT?!! I.e... Sophie Kinsella, why would she go through the trouble of writing books and then do it under another name. By all accounts, her writing will still be recognizable regardless of who she pretends to be!
  8. aka...Sophie Kinsella, I just happened upon a copy of "the wedding girl". Looks pretty good, has anyone read it?
  9. I'm at the midway point on Sarum. Its a REALLY good book but I'm having a hard time staying focused because I could have read TWO books already and I have such a delicious pile just WAITING for me!
  10. Hello ~Andrea~! Thanks. I appreciate that. Sometimes I can be very chatty, then I get REALLY quiet until someone says something that pushes jus the right buttons. I hope to get to know you also!

  11. Our local libraries have a shelf where people can come in and donate books/magazines and they are free to the public. Well today I went by (Tuesdays are the best days to find good books) and here is what I got! Tudor and Stuart Britain 1471-1714 by Roger Lockyer, 1964 (hardback) The Middle Of The Journey by Lionel Trilling, 1947 (hardback) The Glass Lake by Maeve Binchy (hardback) The Way To Wealth by Benjamin Franklin, 1986 (hardback) Thoreau, A collection of Critical Essays, edited by Sherman Paul, 1962 (paperback)
  12. Guess I'd be buying a few bridges as I'm an American and I watched in horror and dismay, praying for this little boy and his family. When this story first aired, the details of the ballonhad not yet been disclosed. All we saw was a distraught family and a silver balloon in the air. It is not something we generally we jump up and say, "oh, its a hoax". And since an object HAD fallen from the balloon, it was evident that it could have held "something". Yes and still, I'd rather be a little guilible and tenderhearted then hardened. But thats just me. Now the family will have the Department of Social Services come in and question the children and they may be removed from the home because of a need to be in front of the camera for 15 minutes of fame. Add to THAT, we the citizens will be paying for this stunt for a few years.
  13. I'm hoping to finish up with Genesis today and I'm also still working thru Sarum. Seems like as soon as it gets REALLY good, I have to stop:irked:
  14. We decide where to put books based on the publishers discription. The problem comes most times from having mulitiple discriptions. Most times it will say in THIS order, "Fiction" then it will be followed by "Romance" followed by "Mystery". We keep it simple, whatever shows up first is how we catalogue it.
  15. Still plugging away at Sarum. I wish I had more to spend reading it without interruptions!
  16. When I get home, I'm picking up Sarum. This is truly a fascintating read! Nothing like rain to make me want to travel back to Medievil England.
  17. Okay, so why am I at work and BBC America is showing 6 episodes of Primevil?!!!!
  18. Page 364 of Sarum, about 900 more to go!
  19. So far, Robin Hood comes on Saturday evenings. I recorded the beginnings of episode 1 last week and we've been working our way through them. What is ITV? Somehow I feel I should know this, but as I'm still suffering from a bang on the head...
  20. is that they will play the same show about 5 times throughout the day. And the really GOOD shows, they will run a one day marathon, only to not be seen again:irked: A few weeks ago, they did Primevil and we absolutely LOVED this show! I figured that they were going to be showing it again at a regularly scheduled time but wouldnt you know it, havent seen it since:motz: At least they brought back Robin Hood.
  21. I just cant bring myself to care for any of these. When I look about my home and see all my favorite books on the shelves, I have to wonder how uncozy it would look without the shelves and the books. I need to feel my books, to turn the pages and read the covers. And honestly, I dont need anything else electronical to place in front of my already weak eyes!
  22. I've got nothing but time on my hands so I am working two books by the same author, Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd and its companion novel called The Forest. I feel like hanging out in England today!
  23. My least favorite was The Horse and His Boy. I dont know why, I just couldnt get into it. Having said that, has anyone listened to the Focus On The Family version of The Chronicles of Narnia? Now this is a true masterpiece. Its not read word for word. They are actors playing each part, like the old time radio programs with sound effects and everything. We listen to this yearly. I've never heard the sound of frying fish sound more realistic. We had to go and buy fish to fry for dinner that very nigh;)
  24. I do keep forgetting that there are different versions. It never occured to me that there was another reader for the series, I stand corrected! Well, as I cant compare Fry with Dale, I guess I'll have to stick with Dale since he's the only one I've heard:mrgreen:
