  1. No, its Jim Dale, I just looked on the shelf to verify it. Its the same voice throughtout the entire series.
  2. Have any of you listened to the CD? The book is read by Jim Daly and he is AWESOME!!! I mean, every character has their own distinctive voice throughout the entire serie.
  3. Still working on Sarum and I may put in a little lighter reading to break it up a little. Must continue on with Genesis, in the Bible!
  4. You know, you can get the entire set in one book now. I love this because I never have to worry about the next book being out of stock. Very easy to go right into the next story without skipping a beat!
  5. I'm no big fan of reality tv but I must admit that there are a couple that I really enjoy. I love How Clean Is Your House Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares Hotel Inspector and those shows that take you back in time "Iron Age" What are your favorite reality shows?
  6. Your right Gyre. I loved that bookmark. I HAD to concidering how much I paid for the thing;) Now, if I can keep the grandwobbler away from it, it MIGHT just last me a few years!
  7. JudyB, I actually got a readers copy of the Swan Thief last week. Our shoppe buyer went to a bookstore conference and brought it back. I was able to keep it. Cant wait to delve into it.
  8. Has anyone read The Inklings, by Humphrey Carpenter? Its about Tolkien, Lewis, Charles Williams and their friends. I'm not a big biography/autobiography reader but I am totally fascinated by Tolkien and Lewis.
  9. I have a really nice one that had been lost and has recently turned up. Its a large brown leather with the "Rohan" emblem from Lord of the Rings. I also have a nice felt girly one!
  10. Yesterday I was blessed to meet another author, her name is Katherine Wall, she's a mystery writer and her stories center around our hometown. Here is a link to her website. http://www.kathrynwall.com/ We had a nice long chat while she was signing some of her catalogue for the bookshoppe. She told me that she got her love for mystery writing from reading Agatha Christie. Kathryn is such a humble and just plan NICE lady who happens to love a good mystery!
  11. I just love the old world spelling! The owner of the bookshoppe where I am employed actually uses this spelling at his antique book"store" and I feel in love with it.
  12. And remember that if your going to get a book autographed, make sure the book is purchased FROM that bookstore. As a matter of fact, I'd call the bookstore to see if you have buy the book the day of the booksigning or if you can bring your copy with the receipt. Depending on who the author's publishing company is, they may put stipulations on it, like how many copies can be signed and if they will do more personal signings, like to such and such, etc...
  13. I would absolutely LOVE to have an establishment of my own like that. Cozy, atmospheric and eclectic. Dont think I've been in a bookshoppe like those EVER!
  14. I find authors who have versatile writing styles to be at least worth looking into. If J.K. Rowling decided to write in another genre or age group, I wouldnt be put off because she broke away from HP. Wouldnt hurt to give it a looksee;)
  15. I actually loved the movie, I'm watching it now:mrgreen: I find it to be a really good rendition of the book, maybe because the stepson of C.S. Lewis, John Grishem(sp?) was an executive producer. He wanted to make sure the movie was true to the story. Was it the graphics that you didnt like or the movie in general?
  16. I just noticed there is a post in the bookstore section. Sorry about that! This question has to do with your choice in Independent bookshoppes verses Chain bookshoppes and your reasons for your choice. If you need to move it, I understand. What type of bookshoppe do you favor? Are you a Barnes and Noble kind of shopper (the bigger the better) or do you prefer the smaller, independent bookshoppe? What draws you to your particular type of bookshoppe, the atmosphere, books, employees, location? I use to go to our local Barnes and Nobles and enjoyed it but since I've worked in this bookshoppe, I've come to LOVE the independent, small shoppe. I like the fact that the employees have a a LARGE say in what goes on in the store. We decorate it as we see fit, play the type of music that we think the customers like to hear, have a really informal and cozy atmosphere and have a working knowledge of our customers. We know who likes what! When our regulars (who love, say goth) tell us of new books coming out, we can just order them! We do special orders without extra charges, no shipping fees, unless we mail them off and we have the same (actually quicker) delivery times. A book thats available can be shipped in two days. We will also go to ABE and order rare/out of print books for our customers. You know, if I didnt work there, I would STILL shop there!!! Whats your idea of the perfect bookshoppe?
  17. I like to give a book at least 5 chapters to capture me, if it doesnt, there's really no point in wasting my time. HOWEVER, having said that, if I actually BOUGHT the book, I have been known to muddle through it. I hate to waste money on a book that I paid for only to have never read:motz:
  18. Sarum to start and then a little The Physcik Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe. Looking forward to checking this particular book out!
  19. The savory smell of beef and veggie stew thats been simmering ALL day with homemade dinner rolls.
  20. I've actually just picked up a book that was put aside. Its Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd. After I finish that, I'm going back to Pillars Of The Earth, by Ken Follett. Assuming I dont straight into London, also by Edward Rutherfurd!
  21. I absolutely LOVED Bridget Jones Diary (the movie) I only watched them for the first time this month. I often wondered about the books.
  22. I wasnt aware of the book series, I have seen the television show though and really enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, I use Netflix so I can continue to watch them as it appears to have been canceled. I'll have to check that out!
  23. SueK, I think thats why, when I DO read Crime/Mystery books, I look for books centered in sleepy English villages. I'm just not into fast paced, stick and rip books. I love the idea of roaming through ancient estates and meeting up witht the quirky characters.
  24. You know, I literally WALKED into this job. I had been in to look for a book and happened to overhear the manager and another employee discuss needing someone because another employee had taken ill. I said jokingly that I was looking for something part time. Next thing you know, I had an interview the next day with the owner of the store and lo and behold, here I am, almost 2 years later. I never thought of myself as working in a bookshoppe but its really an interesting place to be. I see all kinds of customers, get to go through all the books, read what I want without having to pay for it, as long as I return it to the shelf like I removed it PLUS we get a 40% discount. Unfortunately, if my husbands job search doesnt yield anything soon, I may have to search for something else.
  25. Our store buyer went to a book convention this past weekend and brought back bags of free books, hard back and soft back. I had a blast going through them and placing them in our inventory. I got a free readers copy of Swan Thieves, by Elizabeth Kostova and The Creation Of Eve, By Lynn Cullen. Cant wait to read these.
