I'm not into goth, wont read them. Having said THAT, if I did read goth, I wouldnt read Lora Leigh. I work in a bookstore and this woman has almost two shelves of books. She's cranking out about 6 or 8 books a year. They just CANT be any good! Not to mention the erotica section she's cranking out at the same time. It must be a formula she's using. I also wont touch "urban fiction" by such authors as Zane (gripping titles such as Purple Panties) If I can avoid it, I let other employees shelve those books:lol: They KNOW how I feel! The last time I handled one of those books, I felt the need of a shower and an antibiotic:lol:. Just nasty! I've also come across books such as the Satanic Bible which I wont go near, much less read.

Whatever little bit we can contribute is a step towards giving a new lease on our planet and a sigh from our wallets. I think its all a mindset. Everyone cant live on a self-sustaining farm. We cant all sew and slaugher a cow or weave from yarn sheered off our hand feed sheep! But recycling what we have and shopping wisely is also a positive way of making life simpler. The way I see it, every little bit helps!

Pickrele, I have trained myself to do the same thing. I mean, the area where I live is so rich with history, art, local shops, things to see and do (except night clubs and a mall). I have decided to become more interested in this place we call home. People spend big bucks here for "culture" and we get it free, everyday! As for the mall, we can travel 40 minutes to a mall and thats fine by me. I really dont want one in our area. Building one would really cause havoc on our economy. Our local, independent stores and shops would really suffer, we'd have a madhouse of traffic and noise. Our ecology would really be put off. Nope, let the "big" cities have it!

Well, I've been outside and started my small little garden! I feel really good because I actually accomplished it:tong:. I also weeded through my very neglected herb planters and now I can see what I need to replace them with or add to. This is exciting!

Sometimes I get in a mood to read and then I have to go through several books to find just the one I need to read. I've picked up about 4 books over the last two days "trying" them on, before I found the right "fit". Do you find yourself starting and stopping and moving on to the next book before you can settle in and read? Its almost like trying on cloths!

What do you think of her books? I just started "The Witches of Eileanan". It feels pretty good so far!

I grew up in rural Virginia on a small farm. My grandfather was a tobacco farmer and grandmom was a true farmer's wife. She made quilts, had a large vegetable garden that she would harvest and "put up" for the winter. The had pigs, chickens and a cow. We would "go to town" once every few weeks just for an outing and for grandmom to meet up with her cronies and for us to get treats. Grandmom never drove so she had to plan her trips around grandpa's tobacco market days. That was when she would get the family staples that would last for at least a month. My mom still lives there and everytime I go to visit, I cant help but think back to how simple everthing was back then. We had so much fun on the homestead and never lacked for things to do. I'm almost 42 and would love to do a quarter of the stuff grandma did! Out of all her granddaughter's I was the one who gleaned the most, now I just need to tap into my memory and discipline myself into sticking to it. I often wonder if there is a middle place where I can be apart of academia AND homesteading?

I've been in a reading drought for the last 4 months, having time to read only "required" books. Now I feel like I've been thrown in an ocean of books and I dont know where to start! I've actually started two books, one by Simon Tolkien called "The Inheritance" and the other is from the "Evans" series, titled "Evan's Above". Its a mystery set in the Welsh country with people being flong off the mountains and such!

Coffin, It IS a struggle to live simply in such a consumer geared society. I've been trying to make changes in how my family spends and what we consume. Its not easy. Little steps help. I shop locally, hitting the farmers market on weekends (we are blessed to live in a community that has year round farmers market. I TRY to remember to use my cloth bags for shopping and combine my errands to cut back on gas consumption. My menfolk have asked what I wanted for Mother's Day and I told them that I wanted a veggie garden and my yard done all nice and pretty. Little money and a little effort will make it something we can all enjoy for years to come. As hubby has been out of work for almost two months and we had no unemployment coming in, I've learned how to stay out of stores and we dont feel deprived at all. I'm still attending university and dh will be going to school at the end of this month. We dont expect to see much of an increase in income and are still quit contented with our more simple way of living!

I LOVE this book and others like it. I havent finished it because it stuffed behind some other books while I was cleaning. I must dig it out....

Hello All, not sure if any of you remember me as I havent been able to post consistently because I was knee deep in university studies. Well, I've taken my last final today and I dont think it preemptive to say that I've passed everyone of them! I am SOOOO glad to be done. This semester, my first time back in school for years has been filled with distractions. The bestest was when my newest grand was born the second week of the semester. Then our oldest grand caught pneumonia and was hospitalized for a week, got sick and had to go back. Daughter started work and then her car broke down so it was a juggle getting her to work, myself to work and class and errands done. Added to the mix, dh has been laid off from his new job for about 6 weeks. Since he was the last hired, he was first to go when business slowed down. Then it was down to finals and praise God, its all over now! Anyway, thats my drama in a nutshell. For the past 4 months, I've been going top not speed and now I am ready for a lazy summer! I missed the board but I found that I was spending too much time here not to mention how frustrating it was to hear about all the good books to be read and not having the time or energy to read any of them.

Great question! Personally, I think it would be how the dementors made him feel. I dont think HP feared Voldy. He knew he would have to face him one day. He hated Voldy but didnt fear him. Remember his refusal to call him "hewhomustnotbenamed?"

My daughter loved Edgar Allen Poe as a young teenage. She's also in love with the gruesome **** that comes in the form of movies. Being more of a conservative parent we monitored what the kids could read because in the end, we were the ones up with them after reading or watching something they thought they could handle. Personally, I'm not a horror fan BUT I wouldnt stop them from reading horror books but it would be a gradual thing, starting with something like Goosebumps and then gradually moving up the scar-o-meter. If they jump right into the adult stuff, I think it desensitizes them, they have to constantly search for that book to give them that adrenaline rush. If a kid reads adult stuff by the age of 12 I'm not sure what else they have to look forward to. But thats just me;) In the bookshoppe where I work, I see young girls (12-13) reading Laurel K. Hamilton! Not just the regular goth stuff, but the erotica stuff.
