  2. I've got my elven "action" figures and my soundtracks! I'm starting today!!
  3. I'm so glad! Well, why not start today or tomorrow?
  4. I was at work listening to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack and it put me in the mood to read The Hobbit. Does anyone else want to read it with me?
  5. just picked up World Without End. Cant wait to get to it.
  6. Three going right now... Bon Courage (advanced copy) by Ken McAdams HP and the Deathly Hollows The Plague of Doves by Louise Eldrich
  7. 42 in August! I love seeing a new year!
  8. Wow, my little ol' shelves seem so insignificant!
  9. Yeah, and it got on my nerves:irked:. This was my first EVER attempt to watch soccer (football). I couldnt get use to the buzzing sound.
  10. I'm reading book 7 again. My plan is to go backwards though. I just LOVE this book so much! I think I love it more than my kids did! Have any of you purchased the HP Ultimate Extended series? I have book two but I'm having a hard time finding the first one. I really love these because it goes indepth about the creation of the movies, etc.
  11. Never watched it in my life but I'm starting this year! USA of course!!!
  12. Decided to move this up! My tastes have expanded a little. I am reading more mysteries. I've also ventured into a few fantasy novels by Kate Forsyth and a few other fiction writers I had just plain walked past. My biggest problem is that I work in a bookstore and I'm a member of this forum. I cant even sit and read without checking back here and seeing if there is something ELSE I should be reading!! Almost takes me twice as long to finish a book now!
  13. Im less inclined to read them also, if they are famous for other things UNLESS its biographical. Now, having said that, you wouldnt catch me reading ANYTHING by Miley Cyrus. The little chit isnt older than a pair of my favorite boots:lol: I mean, really, cant you wait till you hit your 40's, 50's or 60's?! Accomplish somthing besides being teen eye candy first. Dont get me wrong, I dont begrudge the girl her fame, but what has she REALLY weathered?
  14. http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/17943/emergency+rescue+effort+is+launched+for+teen+sailor+abby+sunderland/ Personally, I could even FATHOM the thought of my underaged child attempting this. I do pray she is safe and they find her soon. When is it okay to over-rule our parental judgement to allow our teenagers to follow their dreams...? I mean, I want our children to reach for the stars but is there ever a time when we give too much freedom?
  15. I completed Louise Erdrich, Love Medicine this morning and I'm about to start another of her novels, The Plague of Doves either this evening or tomorrow. While I'm at work, I'm re-reading HP and the Deathly Hollows.
  16. Started Elizabeth George's In Pursuit Of The Proper Sinner. I think I'm going thru a mystery phase! I'm also eye HP And The Deathly Hollows!
  17. You just reminded me that I forgot to mention my bookshelf in my kitchen:lol: Recipe books, natural healing and herbs!
  18. Most of you who know my views know I'm more conservative than not. Because of my beliefs I tend to think that too much too soon can desensitize a child/teen, no matter how mature they seem. From living with 4 young adults/adults and having a very good communications with, I've been told when they felt that they have seen or read something they thought they were mature enough to handle but in actuality they werent. They put up a front. Now these are just my opinions and are in no way judgmental l:smile2: I also work in a bookshoppe. What I've noticed is how certain authors are now aiming for teenage girls. There are a few goth/erot authors who are now writing these novels and I have to wonder why? There have been times when I had to actually check the publishers to determine if a book was YA or goth/adult. I feel a little apprehensive because these authors went straight from one adult genre into YA, no fiction no mainstreaming, just feet first. I personally think that in these instances its not about the integrity of the work but the desire to corner the market on teens and grown up goth.
  19. CornFlowerBlue, I'm a fellow clerk in a bookshoppe. Ours is independent and we LOVE it, we do it just the way we see fit to run it and thats why we've survived for so long (over 30 years I believe). Dont you just love those customers who come in off a space ship from a parallel universe and ask you questions like that? I had a woman call the store and told me that she was looking for a book that "might have been written by a woman whose first name was Margaret and it took place maybe in Arizona" AREYOUSERIOUS?!! My response? Uh, no, Margaret wrote a book that took place in Canada. And its out of stock!
  20. So, do you keep a running log of your books, do you keep them in any order, and how many do you have? Last night I was doing a rambling walk through my books and found that my main bookshelf was in need of a little rearranging so I pulled the books off the self and did a quick sort of them. I got up this morning and put them in their respective places. My top shelf contains my bibles and inspirational books. My second book contains my favorite authors of African American and Native American books. My third shelf contains my scifi and series books. My third shelf contains my classics. My second bookshelf contains more classic books that are related to school. It also houses my Tolkien, Lewis and Rowling books. To include their biographies. I also have a shelf dedicated to Black history. The last shelf contains the rest of my classics to include old literature text books from when my 83 year old auntie was in high school! Bookshelf number 3 is in our bedroom. It houses local history, reference books and more inspirational books and my comics (For Better For Worse and Cathy ) I keep these close to my desk. Bookshelf number 4 is in the kids den. It holds all of their books, Harry Potter, etc, old school books and HighLite magazines and of course the young adult classics. And FINALLY the 5th bookshelf belongs to the grands. Here is where I keep all the books I want to hand down to them. Can you tell I love books?
  21. Funny you should mention that particular book. I saw parts of the movie about a week ago! I really enjoyed it but I feel asleep. I was ticked off that such a good movie was being shown at 0230 in the morning:motz: Now I have to try and track it down to rent or purchase. The movie is called Smoke Signal. I started Reservation Blues last week and plan to finish it this week.
  22. For me it would be Tolkien, Austen, Tolstoy, and last but certainly not least, J.K. Rowling!
  23. He is a Native American writer of renown, from children to adults. I absolutely LOVED The Absolutely True Tails Of A Part-time Indian. I actually like to push this book at the bookshoppe because I fell in love with it.
  24. I actually did a cover to cover read yesterday. The book was titled The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich. It was an amazing read! Today I'm starting Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Pre-Civil War tale, very engrossing:readingtwo:
