  1. is feeling really tired right now. allergies/colds SUCK.

  2. I love books set in provincial villages. You are right about the descriptions. I have found myself skimming anything that looks like another drawn out description of St . Oggs. I actually like the characters, the aunts and uncles, the parents. I don't know, Maggie really got on my nerves. She was just so obnoxious!
  3. Mill on the Floss, by George Eliot, is the required reading that I have for my Women Writers class. Has anyone read it? I'm actually enjoying it. Its a little tricky with the dialect but I'm really enjoying it. Or else I'm so glad to be done with Bronte and Browning! Whats your take on the book?
  4. Hope someone can give me some insight. As I'm typing this out, my screen blacks out. It only lasts a second but this is new. Any one know why? My computer is a HP TouchSmart notebook.
  5. The Yellow Raft in Blue Water by Michael Dorris. I'm SUPPOSE to be reading Homer and Wuthering Heights but I'm sick of them both, so I'm taking a mini break:wink:
  6. Just finished ... The Odyssey Runner in the Sun Almost finished with Wuthering Heights Starting Agmemnon George Washington's War
  7. I'm watching the 1st episode of Doc Martin. Too funny, why are all the men growing breast?!
  8. is celebrating because her football team (The Green Bay Packers) is going to the Superbowl!!

Similar situation for me. I'm a Packers fan and my flat mate is Steelers fan.

  9. In the U.S., its criminal to show children/teens under 21 in acts of undress. The difference with these characters is that they are not adults portraying kids doing these things, they are kids portraying kids doing these things, hence the pornography. Or rules are a lot more stringent then in England. I have to admit, I wasnt impressed with the British version either.
  10. I did about 10 minutes and was done. It was disgusting (IMHO). Just because kids do these things doesnt mean we need to glorify it.
  11. New BIG controversy here in the States. Its about a show called "Skins". It was aired on BBC America but has been picked up by MTV. MTV will most likely be looking at being investigated on the grounds of child pornography. The U.S. has more stringent rules when it comes to pornography than the British. Here's a link to today's story but if you google it I'm sure you'll find more reading. Skins
  12. I thought the same thing but when I got with my telephone company (also our internet provider) I found out that we did'nt need the telephone line. They assigned a number to our internet and that was that. I have found that because reception is'nt really good inside our house, I do'nt spend much time at ALL on the phone. I will do quick conversations while I'm out and thats about it. It is very liberating!
  13. my dog has gas and she wont move away from me.

LOL, Tristan, a gentle kick would only INCREASE the gas, she must be treated as if she had dynamite in there.

@Coffin, same problem. I actually accused my hubby of doing it!

  14. has calmed down from yesterday's rant about my co-worker.

  15. is thinking some people have a helluva lot of nerve. only been on the job about 4 months and have spent over 1.5 of that gone on vacations, etc. NOW you want to come in an hour late after I worked ALL day yesterday AND opened today?! NOTGONNAHAPPEN!

  16. Genevieve, I will hold you responsible for the money I am about to spend on tea, seeing as you reopened the topic! I must find some Empress tea. I just LOVE Empress tea.
  17. Tali, I don't believe thats true! A writer is a writer regardless if something is published consistently or not. You've had some mega stuff going on in your life which was draining and exhausting. It can put you off your mojo but it doesnt mean that you will never regain it!
  18. Because we are the only independent bookstore we have SO much freedom to promote our local authors! I was recently asked to handle the book signings and promotions of these authors and I'm excited. At this very moment, there is an author who wants me to set up a book signing for him. I hope I get it right! This will also look fabulous on my resume! can't get that kind of service in chain bookstores, thats for sure!
  19. Also try Beverly Lewis. I work in a bookstore and she is one our best Christian authors. Oh, I forgot one of my all time favorites! Jan Karon, author of the Mitford series books. The stories are set in a little village in Georgia (United States). Its a series of books that center around a 60+ priest (I think he's Episcopalian). He finds himself in love with his neighbor who is an illustrator/author of childrens books. Very warm-hearted! His parishioners are quaky and loveable. I think you will love this series!
  20. so my best friend out in Kauia, Hawaii was in the gym with President Obama and her 4 year old daughter decides she doesnt want to shake his hand...!
