I loved the book as a child and as an adult. The mother didnt allow the canary to die, she was a working mother and out most of the time. The pet belonged to Beth. Lets not forget that Beth dies, which was even more heart breaking. It was preachy because thats what books were written for during the Victorian era. Everything was about moralizing. I found it to be a "comfort" read and I have to say I loved all the movie versions.

I agree. I have most of his books on my bookshelf and have started and stopped them a few times. For me its just a matter of having the time to do it. Maybe over the winter months. I don't see me reading New York though, it just doesnt seem to "catch" me like his other works.

Sssh, don't tell the hubby but I got a new HTC EVO 3D phone while I was in Hawaii! I LOVE this phone!!!

Thanks Kylie, its a great phone and while I was intimidated at first, its really easy to use. I don't experience dropped calls like the Sprint Olympus LG. The volume is great (no, can you hear me now?) stuff, I don't have to sit outside my home to get reception, more space, just so many pluses! The 3D is just an added perk! You don't even need the glasses to see the pics.

My hilarious grandsons. Honestly, we could be rich if I weren't so darn lazy and would get the camera! In between the antics of a 3 year old and a 16 month old, I'm watching Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford!)

I think books will continue to be around. I work at an independent bookstore and our sales are steady. We have customers who own kindles but still purchase books. There is just something comforting in having a couple of bookshelves in a room with a fireplace! Add to the picture the frustrated kindle owner who breaks or loses their toy. I had a customer who came in yesterday to purchase a book because she sat on her kindle and it would cost the price of a new one to fix it. Many people just have a relationship with their books, the ones with the dog ears and the pen marks at their favorite passage. I have suggested to the owner that he should get with ABA (American Book Association) and start selling the ebooks also and he is seriously considering it.

Masterpiece Mystery begins tonight on PBS (American Public Television) and its looking great! Detective Lewis, Agatha Christie and Hercule Peroit! I'm recording them all! Anybody else watching them?

I'm watching John Wayne in True Grit. Me and the hubby love westerns, not the old '30's but the later ones. Their much gritter!

That's the question heh?! Where there African's on the island at anytime before Caesar? Or did any remain after the Romans left, So I guess during the Iron Age? The African's had already been about midway into their Iron Age before it was introduced in Britain.
