Oooooh Eldest is on my 'to buy' list after finishing Eragon. I was in Waterstones yesterday and actually had it in my hands but I think I'm going to look around the second hand book shops first Good haul Ben!

Same here. Some books are recommendations, others are books I've wanted to read for a while but need to be in the mood for and there are also books that I've been given I think there's about 50 books on my TBR pile and some have been there for years....I may never read them! I don't feel tied to it though and will often purchase spur of the moment books, usually following a recommendation from you lovely folks I've got a wishlist of books that I'd like to buy and I check out charity shops for these before heading to Waterstones unless it sounds like a fantastic book, in which case I'll go straight to Waterstones to buy it.

I always use a bookmark but my spines are always creased You can tell which books I've read and which ones I haven't just by looking at my bookshelves.

The books are fantastic BJ! You should definitely add them to your wishlist

Well I think I'd have to be Sookie Stackhouse circa Dead to the World.....purely for the telepathic ability of course :D Initially I was thinking of the Vampire Lestat but I think he led quite an unhappy & lonely life. ....I think it would be too sad

How many books a week / month / year?
Nicola replied to honestfi's topic in General Book Discussions
I think it depends what I've got going on and how good the book is. A few weeks ago I read all 9 of Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries in about 10 days, but this isn't normal....I just couldn't put them down! If I haven't got a lot going on I can read a book in about 2-3 days. If I've got uni & work etc it can take 2-3 weeks. -
 The best thing about moving in with my BF was the Lord of the Rings boxset that came with him!! Ok so maybe that's a tad exaggerated!! Haa!
-
I have to agree with you. The book was amazing! The film wasn't too good however
-
Yeah, I would say the first 3 books are aimed at a younger audience and probably the ones I've read the least, but Books 4-7 are fantastic and the story really takes off! Especially Goblet of Fire (I think that's probably my favourite) The movies really don't do the books justice.....I suppose it's usually the case with books being adapted for movies They miss too much out and overlook the smaller storylines which make a book great!

Do you give yourself a time limit for finishing a novel
Nicola replied to rock_steady88's topic in General Book Discussions
I've got too many deadlines at work/uni so the thought of adding one to the thing I do for leisure makes me want to run away! -
I love those movies!! They weren't long enough!! Only kidding But I did love them......what's not to like!?!

I must admit that I enjoyed reading the Twilight Series, however when I tried to read them for a second time they really didn't hold my attention. I found myself skimming through most of them When compared to the Harry Potter books for instance, they just seem rushed and not very thorough. I've read the HP books so many times I've lost count and they always keep me entertained. But I think everyone should give them a go! You'll either love them and be glad to have found them, or you'll hate them which will only make you appreciate the good books you read that little bit more.

My copy of Queen of the Damned is spending a few days at the post office after I didn't hear the silent post man knock at our door. Didn't hear a thing and I was in....no tv noise or music either! Not to worry....collecting it tomorrow -
Me too! In Club Dead doesn't Bill run off to be with Lorena? Although they've already shown that Only time will tell! Pam is fantastic isn't she! I loved it when she said she would search the woods because she was wearing her good shoes

Phrases you've noticed writers repeat?
Nicola replied to dazzlepecs's topic in General Book Discussions
Charlaine Harris like to use 'flashing signs' above her character's head's, such as 'it was as if I had a neon sign that read 'crazy' flashing above my head'. She does that a LOT! -
I totally agree I'm studying Town Planning so we've covered a lot about sustainable development and environmental impacts of government planning policy. When you compare the UK to somewhere like Holland, they're miles ahead of us in the way they think and approach protecting the environment. We're told that we need to use greener modes of transport, yet they don't provide realistic alternatives to the car and it's cheaper to buy imported produce rather than locally grown food.......it's just back to front isn't it. I always get the impression that the UK government provide lip service to environmental issues but because we're such an economically driven country, the economy will always come first. I do agree that everyone should try to do their bit though. Every little helps and all that

I can see why! I don't think I've ever walked out but if ever there was a movie that pushed me to the edge it would be Arsene Lupin, which I think is a French film (or Spanish). It started off with great potential then got ridiculous. By the end of the movie there were tears of laughter from most people as it just became silly

I haven't seen the programme but through uni I've studied the consumption trends of the global north compared to the global south. It's so unjust it's infuriating! We cause the most damage to the planet yet it's generally the most vulnerable people on the planet that suffer. I think the whole situation is just crazy

Thanks Gyre!! That's such a good interview Ah......I wouldn't mind collecting his dry cleaning...... I also read that they're going to start filming Season 3 in December
