  1. As we were just chatting about the Point Horror books on another thread, I was wondering how many others read these as teenagers? I used to love the Babysitter books by R.L. Stein (they put me off babysitting jobs forever!! )
  2. I was always into the books by R.L. Stein. I remember loving the Babysitter books and The Beach Party too I'm heading over there now
  3. In that order! I feel an addition to my Facebook quotes coming along! I really enjoyed Misery Stephanie and would recommend it.
  4. I think even crossword books could be too risky....you just never know what words could pop up! Bless her
  5. Absolutely! My Mam has started to read again after about 10 years of not reading a thing. I've been recommending so many books and you're totally right, I always give her the names of books which have those amazing scenes. They also have to be tame as she won't stand for anything slightly rude or bloody or scary.......so basically anything Catherine Cookson and even that's pushing it! I read a book called The Birthing House by Christopher Ransom last year. I didn't rate it too high (maybe a 4 out of 10) but it had a pretty scary scene of a clicking sound in the night which turns out to be something sinister. It was so scary that I had to put it down 3 times and do something to take my mind off it It's such a shame that I didn't enjoy the rest of the book as it had such potential.....the blurb sounds great though
  6. I'm adding it to my to buy list as we speak I seem to be attracted to books that come with guaranteed nightmares for some crazy reason!
  7. Everyone says that I think it's the fact you don't actually see anything but you know whats happening. Eeeek! I haven't seen the remake yet but the original was a bit disappointing. I suppose at the time it would have been quite shocking but I suppose we're a more desensitized to it these days. I'd quite like to see the remake though Is that the movie with that awful mask? The one with swirly circles on its cheeks? That mask is terrifying!
  8. That sounds truely disturbing (which makes me want to buy it!) Eeeeek!
  9. I'm possibly the only I know who is terrified by the Blair Witch Project. Oooooh I get shivers just thinking about the last few scenes of that movie. Vacancy is another movie which has me hiding behind the sofa
  10. We had Chinese takeaway King prawns in Oyster Sauce for me.
  11. Haaaa! I'm glad that Glee has such a big following because otherwise, we'd have to hide our addictions to it!

Yeah.....I forgot that Chow was supposed to be all tattoos and muscle. Don't the books say that he serves behind the bar with his top off and has the patrons of Fangtasia drooling? I'm pretty sure Ken/Chow couldn't pull that look off! I was in Waterstone's at the Metro Centre and noticed the new covers of the Sookie Stackhouse books. Each one has a character from the TV show on the cover and guess who's on the cover of Dead To The World??? :exc: I've heavily hinted to my BF that the Valentines Fairy would want me to own that book!

Hope you're having good Saturday! (Only 2 more sleeps until Glee!! :D)

  12. I forgot all about the sinister notes left in lockers.....ahhhhhhh I'm goin to have to re-read these soon. Just look at that cover! Who wouldn't want to read that book?
  13. I finished The first book in The Vampire Diaries series and I'm about halfway through the second.
  14. The whipping scene is horrendous isn't it.....poor Oskar! :( His situation seems hopeless doesn't it. The names are a bit of a nightmare. Lacke, Jocke, Gosta? They all sound like Ikea furniture to me

Ken/Chow :eek2: I'm still speechless! It's those P.E shorts! Chow would never wear those shorts  or have inferiority issues!

  15. My Elena seems to be a shapeshifter! I imagine her to look like TV Elena but the characters don't match up so I just alternate between blonde and brunette  I'm glad they gave her a troubled Brother too and I also really like her TV Aunt who is doing her best but struggling. The TV show just seems to be more realistic with regards to what she'd be going through after the death of her folks. We could add this to the 'TV show better that the books thread' :D

I think in second year, if I got a bad grade I'd always think that I could just recover it in 3rd year but now that excuse is gone! Eeeeek! It all comes down the the dissertation.....think positive and we'll be grand! :D

  16. Oh My God!!! Ken is Chow!!!! How didn't I see that earlier!!!! I'm sat here open-mouthed!! Will's Wife is so annoying isn't she.....Emma is a million times better

I ended up staying in the bath for four hours and finished the first Vampire Diaries story in the book thanks to lots of topping up the hot water  I totally understand what you mean about it being different from the TV show too. Elena is pretty annoying and I spent most of the book wishing she'd fall in Wickety River or whatever it's called, never to surface again  Stephan is just odd but Damon is brilliant! Like you said, I made a start on the second story and it seems to be much better.

  17. Ooooooooh! Let the Right One In is a great book but I know what you mean about it being a bit hard at times. I think it's because the setting is so grim & cold and I didn't like to read about Hakan at all. But Eli and Oskar's relationship is so endearing.....definitely worth persevering with. When I finished it, it took me about a week to figure out what I thought of it  But I now love it!How far into it are you?

64% isn't bad at all!! Well done mrs! :D I'm not sure what I'm averaging at the moment as I've lost track of how many credits everything is worth  This semester I've mainly got mid-60s and with the 61% from 2nd year I'll probably be around the 63-64% mark too. Can't believe it's almost over??!! Has your course flown over too?

  18. I've seen this book around and have been tempted to buy it. You'll have to let me know how you find it Lucybird I FINALLY finished the Vampire Armand after 2 months and giving up a few times. The story was generally interesting and at times mesmerizing, but I found Rice's writing to be really long-winded in this book. It's easy to lose interest which is a shame. I read a chapter of Bitten by Kelley Armstrong on my way into town today and I bought the first 2 books in the Vampire Diaries series on offer in HMV. I can't decide which I want to read first so I'm going to juggle the two which isn't the norm for a one-book-at-a-time soul like myself Also, I have my beady eye on a book about Charles Brandon, the Duke Of Suffolk aka Henry VIIIs mate. It sounds really interesting but is around the
  19. Hello and welcome to the Forum I'm also a Catherine Cookson fan and have quite a few which were given to me by my Grandma too. My favourite is probably the Rag Nymph Enjoy!
  20. In bed with Alex Skarsgard indeed....my brain is near exploding just thinking about it! haaa!! I once had a topless picture of Brad Pitt as my avatar for about 25 seconds before I changed it for fear of being evicted too  I love the Glee pic...doesn't the mention of Glee really cheer you up!?!

Well I'm about to have a bath as I went to pilates in Eldon Square's gym last night and the entire backside of my body aches :drama::blush:. So I'll take the Vampire Diaries with me and see how I get on. They shouldn't take too long to get through hopefully and I'll try to forget all about the Sookie Stackhouse books so as not to compare.

My week has been canny really. FINALLY finished The Vampire Armand today after starting it before Christmas and giving up twice  I've just been busy with uni work...mainly placement applications and dissertation stuff.

How about you? Have you been up to much? I saw on Facebook that you had a few of your grades back...hope you did well :D xx

  21. Hey Stephanie!

I came in here to tell you I'd just bought the first two installments of The Vampire Diaries (HMV has 2 volumes in one book for a fiver so I thought I'd nab one and see how it goes) when I got side tracked by your profile picture!!!!

Dear me!!!! Talk about an inviting sight eh! So yeah.......after saying I wouldn't buy them anytime soon I went straight out and bought them

Anyway, I'm just going to hang around here for a while with Mr Skarsgard :lol:

    Hope you're grand mrs xx
