  1. I know I am pumped! I have massive expectations.
  2. Haha, I am really, really not looking forward to Harry Potter. I can't stand the movies and my girlfriend is a certified Harry Potter nut and has made me see every single one of them. Not something to look forward to.
  3. I finished Club Dead by Charlaine Harris last night. Little disappointing in the end. I enjoyed the first half but it fell away a fair bit in the second I thought. Next up is The Book Thief, which I am pretty excited about.
  4. True. You do make it sound very appealing. This line from your review particularly made me want to lurch into it: writing is so mind numbingly simple and 'show rather than tell' that an adult cannot gain much from it, other than boredom maybe
  5. Thanks a lot for the review Bee. I saw you were reading this and I was considering adding it to my TBR list however after your assessment I don't think I will bother. You are proving to be an effective filter!
  6. Yeah, I just loved this book. It is one of my favourite for the year no doubt. As other posters have mentioned I just loved the characters and really enjoyed the dynamics the author created in the relationship.
  7. Oh yeah, I think it will still be a fair while before I stop. I think it might be beneficial for me to leave a gap between reading them though. It just seems a little fresher when I start each book. She is a great author IMO.
  8. I finished 'Immortal in Death' last night. The third book in Nora Roberts' (writing as JD Robb) 'In Death' series. I gave it 8/10. As much as these books are definately very samish I just really enjoy them. I nearly found this one as enjoyable to read as the first in the series, as demonstrated by the fact that I finished it within one day. I really love the dynamic that Roberts creates between the two main characters, it makes it a really enjoyable read for me. I have the fourth book in the series on my TBR list, but I think I will wait a while before coming back to it. There are a few others I want to read first anyway. Next up for me is the third book in Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse vampire series - 'Club Dead'. After this I am going to read The Book Thief, which I am really looking forward to.
  9. This is pretty much exactly how it went down with me. The last 50-100 pages of Breaking Dawn were pretty frustrating, particularly given the fact that my girlfriend had whinged about the ending before I got to it. In the end I just wanted to get it over and done with.
  10. I think you are dead on. I didn't really care for Edward's character a great deal so it wasn't Jacob being put up in opposition to him that made me dislike Jacob's character I don't think. I think it was a combination of his refusal to let go and his featuring heavily in the second book, which I did not like as much as the others for reasons unrelated to Jacob's character, that led me to dislike him. It is funny. Whilst I didn't love the books I really enjoyed the series, despite getting to the end of it and realising I didn't REALLY like any of the characters a great deal. That is pretty rare for me. I find that when I love a book I get really attached to at least one of the main characters.
  11. One of my best mates from school who was a STP nut, he loved them. He saw them live when they came here. I didn't love or hate them. I listened to them, but they were absolutely nothing on STP for mine.
  12. I used to love the Stone Temple Pilots. Along with Pearl Jam they were probably my biggest musical influences throughout my teen years.
  13. I didn't really mind his character that much. The one thing that did annoy me was his refusal to give it up. That became annoying for me.
  14. Those sound interesting, I might give them a go at some point in the future. I have read the first two books of the Sookie Stackhouse vampire series and those were fairly enjoyable reads.
  15. Finished Candy by Kevin Brooks. Now reading another Nora Roberts book from her JD Robb 'In Death' series - Immortal in Death.
  16. Yeah, I am feeling the same about Candy as I do most of the YA I read nowadays I think. The vast majority are just something to take my mind off life. I find most of them to be 6 or 7 out of 10 type books. Some are exceptional obviously, but for the most part I just use them when I need something light to read that I know I will not get too emotionally involved in.
  17. My girlfriend and I saw Easy Virtue on the weekend and we both despised it.
  18. I had a massive reading day yesterday and finished The Time Traveler's Wife. I gave it 10/10. I just felt like I had no choice. It would have to be the most incredible book I have ever read. I was completely taken in by it and I loved every moment. I found it to be a complete rollercoaster of emotions. I find it hard after reading a book like that with such a high level of emotional involvement to decide what to read next, so I usually go for a lightist YA style book. This time I went for Candy by Kevin Brooks. I am actually nearly finished it as well, about 100 pages to go. It is fairly enjoyable, but it obviously suffers in being compared to the Time Traveler's Wife.
  19. That made me laugh. At first I thought, "I wonder what is so strange?" Then I read the first point and thought "that sounds good, but not overly strange", then the baby food came in. Haha. It probably does taste pretty good though. Babies are humans after all. It's not like it is pet food or anything.
  20. I loved Rounders! When I was at University myself and a group of friends played an absolute tonne of online poker. That movie was kind of like a Gospel to us.
  21. Haha, I guess so. I don't know, I just thought watching the show the first time was incredible. Remembering back on watching the Wizard of Oz as a young child and how everything tied together. I just thought that was pretty cool and I am guessing that if you read the book first you would be deprived of that.
  22. I actually think that would kind of spoil it a little. It is the revelations throughout the show that make it so great IMO.
  23. I saw it once in the UK and I have flown down to Melbourne to see it a few times since. Having to pay for air fares, accommodation and tickets certainly makes it a costly exercise though.
  24. Wicked was the first musical I ever saw. I loved it and have seen it several times since.
  25. As a fellow Australian I feel compelled to warn you that these people are nuts and they may attempt to find out where you live. I would tread a little carefully.
