  1. I considered looking into some Nora Roberts books after reading 'Naked in Death' but they just seemed a little too girly for me. Is that the case? I loved the book and thought the writing was excellent.
  2. I actually cannot really remember a book or movie in which I fully cried. Not to say I don't feel emotional whilst reading/watching them, I guess I just don't cry much.
  3. How do you possibly read 28 books in just over 8 weeks? That is just ridiculous.
  4. Wow, four sons. My mother had three and barely coped. Welcome to the forum!
  5. I would have no idea if it wasn't for people's lists and reviews on here. I have not read books seriously since I was maybe 16, and even then my reading was confined to a very limited number of authors and genres.
  6. It really isn't funny, I simply copy your lists, haha.
  7. Yeah, it is worse when I am reading a book that I find to be addictive as I just stay up later and later trying to finish it and then I am more and more stuffed each morning, haha. Not good.
  8. Yeah, I read the first couple of chapters last night and it seemed that way. It already seems like the type of book I will really enjoy. I am just getting home later and later at night from work at the moment and it is steadily cutting back on the time i have to read.
  9. Haha, if only! My reading time is steadily being cut back at the moment, it is horrible.
  10. Ok so I finished 'Dead Until Dark' by Charlaine Harris. It was a pretty interesting book. I rated it at 7.5/10, and overall I would have to say I found it enjoyable most of the way through and easy to read. I thought the beginning was a little weak and after 20-30 pages I was pretty certain I wasn't going to like it but it picked up quite considerably after that point and overall I thought the author did a good job. I have ordered the next couple of books in the series on Amazon so I am going to see what I think of them. Next up I am going to read two books simultaneously - something I do not usually do. I am going to start 'Testimony' by Anita Shreve as some ppl on here have really enjoyed it and it sounds very interesting and also Wuthering Heights, which will be the first classic I have read.
  11. Haha, I hope they are not for girls only as the first one is sitting on my 'to be read' pile.
  12. The Book Thief sounds incredible. Absolutely everyone seems to love it. It is on my 'books to buy' list, I may have to lash out and order it on Amazon. Can you believe I could not find a store in Brisbane that had it in stock?
  13. Thanks guys. Given the great reviews both of those books have received on here I am sure I will enjoy both of them.
  14. Bee, unfortunately not. I don't know what it was about that series. The whole time I was reading them I was thinking "these really aren't that good", then I would look over at my alarm clock and it was 4 am and I had been reading it for 10 hours straight! Michelle, I thought that might have to be the case. I mean, there is just so many of them. It is still fresh for me though so I think I should enjoy them for at least a while yet. I sinned today. I went to Borders and purchased four books that were on my 'Books to buy' list: - Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - Testimony by Anita Shreve I also ordered 'Glory in Death' from Amazon. I will have to hide this from my girlfriend. Whilst she has been making a conscious effort to curb her expenditure on clothes/bags/shoes/hair to save for our apartment, I have not demonstrated the same level of restraint.
  15. I will let you know. It is kind of doing my head in a little at the moment switching between YA and adult novels as the moment, so it is taking me a little while to get used to. I don't know which of the classics to try either. It is ridiculously pathetic but I was kind of leaning towards 'Wuthering Heights' because it was in Twilight.
  16. I have had several spells since I was a teenager in which I didn't read a single book. I always found the type of book that got me back into it was one that is highly addictive. Take the start of this year for instance. Prior to the start of January I hadn't read for quite a while, and then I read the Twilight series on my girlfriend's urging. Even though I didn't think the books were the best I have ever read, they were addictive and I read them all in under two weeks. Since then I haven't stopped reading.
  17. I finished 'Naked in Death' by JD Robb earlier today. I really enjoyed this book. It was always going to be a difficult task following the Noughts and Crosses series but this book didn't disappoint. It was a great mix of thriller/intense romance, a genre that I have recently found to enjoy a lot. The book wasted no time getting into the suspense and had me turning the pages quickly from very early on. I found the characters to be likeable and the futuristic world in which the book was set intriguing. It has definately motivated me to place 'Glory in Death' - the second book in this series - on my 'To be Bought' list. My rating: 8/10. Next up for me is Charlaine Harris' 'Dead Until Dark'. I also intend purchasing my first classic novel - either 'Wuthering Heights' or 'Jane Eyre' - tomorrow, and I might start mixing in a bit of that also.
  18. I'm not 100% positive, but I do know the man loves his cakes. If I had to guess, I would say that yes, he does.
  19. The funniest thing is seeing how many times the Maccas employees get the order wrong. First it comes with no onion but sauce, then no sauce or onion. One time I think they even didn't put meat on it. Seriously though, it can get very annoying. Try picking a restaurant when one of the party will not eat 99.8% of foods.
  20. Haha. I'm not going to say he didn't intimidate me a little when I met him. I was only just 17 and had never met a girl's father before and he had a thick British accent and seemed a little sceptical toward me. He is actually extremely friendly and we get along really well now.
  21. It is even more amusing when he goes to McDonald's. He orders "Three junior burgers, meat and onion only - no relish". It cracks me up every time I hear that.
  22. Here is a picture of him at Emily's graduation. Whilst he looks scary, he isn't. Having said that, he does kind of look like a man with incredibly bland/boring food preferences, don't you think?
  23. I have been told - although I am not convinced - that this is not completely abnormal in England. Apparently a lot of males, especially older ones (Pete is 60), like to stick to just meat and three veg. Sounds absolutely god-awful to me.
  24. He is ridiculous. I am serious, it is beyond this world. He will literally only eat lamb/beef/chicken and potatoes or prawns for dinner. If not that, a plain ham sandwich. An absolute fruitcake no doubt.
  25. That is like my girlfriend's father. He is originally from England and the list of foods he has never eaten is staggering. In addition to never having had the likes of Indian or Chinese, the man has never eaten pizza or pasta! When I was introduced and he first told me, I literally, 100% thought he was kidding.
