  1. Yeah, I'd definitely say give it a go. Thanks for the recommendation. I might bump it up my TBR pile a bit then!
  2. I have no idea what I'm gonna have for dinner. I'll have to raid the fridge later and hope there's something edible there!!
  3. I thought it was average. The idea was quite original but it was still quite a forgettable read.
  4. It was a small cassette, not much bigger than the palm of his hand, and when Mike thought about the terrible license and risk exhibited on the tape, as well as its resultant destructive power, it was as though the two-by-three plastic package had been radioactive. Quite a long one for me. Testimony - Anita Shreve
  5. 1. THE HOST - STEPHENIE MEYER Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love. I'd like to begin by stating that the only reason I continued reading this book past the first few chapters was because I'm a huge fan of Twilight. I wanted to give this book the same chance and was so determined to read the entire thing, even though I was tempted to give up. It took me over a week to read the first 50 pages as I struggled to get into it. To me, it felt a little like I'd been thrown into the deep end and didn't really know what was going on. The writing style is very similar to Twilight; I think it was just the introduction to the characters and the beginning of the plot that didn't appeal. Having said that, after a very slow start, once I got to a certain point I was sucked in completely and enjoyed the rest of the book immensely. From reading the blurb, I was both fascinated and intrigued to know exactly how this love triangle would play out. I was also curious to know exactly how these two could co-exist with each other. I wasn't disappointed with either of my queries. Both were written in a believable way that allowed the reader to relate to all the characters involved. The main character, Wanderer, is very likeable. The world created by Meyer around Wanderer and Melanie interested me enough that I was desperate to know more. The story continues in a way that builds on the bare basics provided by the blurb; it goes above and beyond what's expected. I've heard many people saying that this is a book for people who do not like sci-fi. I agree whole-heartedly with this. Having avoided sci-fi at all costs in the past, my only reason for choosing to read this book was my love for the Twilight series. My previous impression of sci-fi was that it's too unbelievable. Yet, The Host was presented in a way that I had no such problems. I could visualise Meyer's descriptions without losing any sense of reality, somehow! To sum, I would definitely recommend everyone to try reading The Host. If the beginning had been different, I would have easily said it was a fantastic read but as it is, it's very good. It's left so that a sequel could easily be written and I sincerely hope that she does write one, I will be queuing up to buy it the day it is released. For any Twilight readers - I tried to read The Host without comparing it too much to Twilight. I managed to do it consciously for the most part but I suppose once concluding, it is unavoidable. It stands alone as a very good novel and has a similar appeal to Twilight, once it gets started. I do think other Twilight fans will enjoy The Host and it has some very similar qualities. Having said that, it is obviously different and if vampires was the main attraction, then look elsewhere! 8/10 On to the next one!
  6. Ok, so I was trying to think of a way of writing a review without giving too much away; I know how annoyed I'd be if I accidentally read a spoiler in someone else's review. So I figured I'd write two for each book. One spoiler free and one detailed and full of spoilers. Then it's entirely up to the individual if they wish to know any key plot points or character details, right?
  7. Yep, I agree too, hehe. I'm having pizza!
  8. Haha, I know the feeling! :boogie:I'm sure you'll let me know what you think! I've just ordered four more books off Play.com so my pile is gonna change again, I'll have to take a picture when they arrive and give you all an update. My TBR pile will never shrink
  9. Hehe, the last few posts made me smile! Yep, exactly what lexie said, I would recommend it a thousand times over.
  10. Hehe, yeah, I thought exactly the same when I saw yours. I've also got The Time Travelers Wife and Bitten and Stolen now, so our piles are becoming even more similar
  11. I disagree. Although, I can't make a fair judgment as I never actually finished 'We need to talk about Kevin'. I couldn't get into it and found the writing style didn't appeal to me at all. Whereas with Nineteen Minutes, I found it drew me in straight away. I also disagree that it doesn't make you think. I don't think I've ever read a Jodi Picoult book that hasn't been thought provoking. They all deal with difficult subjects and are unlike many other books. She presents both sides of the story in a way that allows you to make your own decision. Her books make me more of an active reader. Having said that, I would like to give '..Kevin' another go as I was only fifteen when I first tried it.
  12. Definitely. Every cloud has a silver lining. Although a little late in the thread, I figured I'd offer you a hug too! My five facts: 1) I find it difficult to read on the beach. 2) Pineapple in it's own juice makes my tongue swell up. 3) I'm scared of planes and lightning. 4) I have an exam on the 27th January on Biological Psychology. 5) I have two calenders in my room. One Twilight and one puppy pictures.
  13. I've heard terrible things about this film
  14. I like this thread. I love Kylie's bookcases! I've enjoyed looking and going 'Ooh, I've got that one!'. Although, like Roxi, I am a little embarrassed to show mine as it's my Uni pile so the rest are at home. These are my favourites and my TBR . This was taken before Christmas so I've got about fifteen more now.
  15. I read this book over a year ago (I think) and I can't actually remember much about it. That usually means for me that it's nothing spectacular but I think I might give it another go from reading everyone's else's thoughts on it!
  16. I got this for Christmas but probably won't read it for a while. Glad that other people have enjoyed it though!
  17. I do all of these! I do have to take the stickers off before reading. I can't have the bookmark poking out the bottom of the book, it just looks wrong! I never buy second hand books. I'll only read them if I get given them. I take the jackets off hardbacks before reading them. I can't read on the beach. Or outside very well at all really. Ok, wow. So I have quite a few . I think there could be more but I can't think of any right now.
  18. Yeah, that's the ones! I have only tried the salt 'n' vinegar ones so maybe the other flavours are better?
  19. I was really surprised when you said you were 15 in an earlier post. From reading your writing I figured you were a lot older!
  20. Hehe, thanks On the subject of pringles. I don't like those new rice ones. My boyfriend loves them but I think they taste weird!
  21. :I-Agree:Yum, they're so moreish! Is that how you spell that word?? It's bothering me!
  22. Hehe, oh, ok. Maybe that's why then . I am sort of glad I watched it, just so I could say that I had. A lot of people mention it!
  23. How old are you? I don't know...maybe it has a very particular target audience.
  24. No! I can't stand this film. I've only seen the new one and I feel like I wasted a few hours of my life. I thought it was awful!
