  1. Unabridged of course! Abridged editions seem like watered down versions of the books... If I'm going to read a book, I'll make the effort to read it fully, or what's the point? I don't have any tricks to offer Chrysalis, sorry. Though I can definitely relate to that. It's very frustrating not to be able to tell what you're about to buy...
  2. Hi and welcome Genevieve!
  3. Chimera

Well I started it yesterday, and so far I love it!

Have a great time in Paris then! Maybe you'll squeeze in some shopping?

  4. Blurb: Deep in the heart of the dusty Kenyan desert a train of heavily laden camels wind their way slowly through the bush. The camels
  5. It was an early, very warm morning in july, and it had rained during the night. The Summer Book - Tove Jansson
  6. Great review Kell, thanks! This is going on my wish list... It sounds really good and is different from what I usually read *grin*
  7. No, I haven't finished it yet. I left it to one side because it's just way too long (and with extra long chapters) to be read during the week when I only have a little time in the transports for reading... I knew I'd get frustrated *laughs* But it's definitely worth it! I found the part I did read fascinating. You really should try again, especially as you'd probably recognise lots of the places mentioned! And it would show you the Bombay you've probably not seen*, the 'underworld' (which in the book seems to be the 'overworld' really, being so little hidden and so powerful). I think I'll get back to it this week as I'l have much more time. Want to read it with me? *Of course, I'm guessing there. Who knows what you've really been up to during those 6 months?
  8. Hi Karen! I hope all is well for you. Just dropped by to thank you for recomending The Camel Bookmobile. I've just read it and really enjoyed it eventhough I didn't feel the project came across as very positive in it.

I'd be interested in discussing it with you actually as you sounded really enthusiastic about both the book and the project... as most of the reviews I've found on the web seem to be. Did I misunderstand the book or something?

Anyway, it's certainly made me think so thanks!

  9. Finished The Camel Bookmobile yesterday, which sets out a very interesting debate for us book lovers: are books vital, or do they have limits? Should they be spread to everyone or can they sometimes present a danger? I thought it was an enjoyable and interesting book but a bit undecisive. I've reviewed it here and on my blog and will go on to read The Summer Book by Tove Jansson.

Hi! Just wanted to mention I'm about to start the book you sent me. I'll let you know how it goes! *grin*

I hope your exam went well yesterday and you'll have a great time this week. Where are you off to this time?

  11. Same here, plus I want to enjoy it for a while... with a very short book I tend to think it will be over way too quickly. mmm maybe I should try to remedy that. I'm certainly missing out on some great reads that way. And very short books would be good to read in the transports when I have little time.
  12. I haven't seen Watchmen so cant say. But Slumdog definitely is a film to see!

Well, each to its own! *laughs* We dont all have ski guys and Perfect morning after voices on hand...

The thing about theory is you can always go deeper... So you need to determine what's interesting for you, what do you need to unfold the rest of the thesis?

    Have a nice day!

    *kisses*

Yeah I guess... No matter, I'm sure I can find an alternative. Like joining a giant "p

Actually several might be the best way to go... Instead of 'choosing' I should just order them in a number of plans and see which comes about first. *makes a note about investigating convents*

It is! I watched it two or three times, just for the fun of it *laughs*

Thanks! My head feels far less crowded now *grin*

So, have you managed to change the 'total score' yet? Anything I can do to help with that?

    *kisses*

  16. Chimera

I know, I know... but I'm hopeless when it comes to 'just wait and see'. *laughs*

I'll go see that right now, as well as what mischief you've been up to in your thread!

Well it's up, but it's more of a rant to get it out of my system really.

Hi! That makes perfect sense... it's a fairly accurate description of a many of my evenings in fact *laughs* Have you tried setting yourself 'mini' goals which might give you a sense of achievement? Like... choosing a new pair of shoes online which you have to buy next time you go out... or reading a couple of chapters from your book... or beating your record of number of bcf posts in an hour.... or, I'm sure you get the idea *laughs*

I'm still lost in my existential considerations on the meaning of life, the use of studying, the value of money, and more to the point "what's up after school?" question unfortunately. Trying to make sense of it in a post in my 'home travel' thread actually...

In fact I'm procrastinating by replying to you instead *laughs* So I'd better get back to it.

    *kisses*

  18. Hi! Thanks for letting me know, I'm really glad you enjoyed it! It's a book I read and re-read as a teen but no one around me knew it so it's good to see other people enjoying it!

  19. I'm glad you enjoyed it Michelle! And hope you will too Gyre. And I'm sooo excited about this! I cant wait to see how it turns out. Though the article is rubbish (and definitely not to read before the book, I'll second Chrissy on that!).
  20. Yeah, things seem to be rather quiet...

Ouch, bugs do tend to do the rounds like that. Hopefully spring will be there soon. There's been enough cold and humidity for this year.

Oh well, when you do I'd love to see the result.

  21. Hi Roxi!

You dont seem to be around as much these days, or is it jut me not seeing your posts? Anyway I hope you're feeling better and getting over your mass of exams/ essays.

What did you 'Mr Men' version of the forum become?

  22. That's an interesting mix! *grin* English, french and indian all rolled up into one meal... Sounds yummy too.
  23. I think it's a special status for members who have made a donation to help run the forum. I have muesli most days in the morning. The best would be croissant with butter and jam. Yum!
  24. Now, now you know you can admit anything to us Ben! Besides, I'm sure we'd all understand
