  1. I hadn't even realised that was today... So no

*laughs* Disobedient muscles are terrible! :P Your classes sound like hard work, make me feel sore right from my couch :D

Well I didnt have time to see the full film yesterday as I was desperate for some sleep after waking up at 4:45 am to get the train back to school (yep, you did read that right :irked:)... But I have mixed feelings about the beginning (I watched until Charlie found the golden ticket). I wasn't expecting it to have such a 'classic' feel if you see what I mean... The atmosphere is so different to the overly sleek and shiny new version! But I think I actually prefer the charlie in this film (the old one). He isn't quite as naive and 'perfect' as the new one.

But I've yet to see the oompa-loompas!

So, seems like we'll be swapping books for the big book swap... I hope you're ok with that! I'll start thinking of what to send you. I have a couple of ideas already *mutters mysteriously*

  3. I'm a bit the same... But I think I'll end up reading it just to see what it's like. And I'm hoping that as I dont have much expectations for it I will actually enjoy it!

Hi there! How are you? Or more relevantly where are you? *laughs* You don't seem to be around so much these days.

I'm about to watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory so I'll finally see what all the fuss was about :tong:

  5. Wow, great pic Louise! How were your holydays? You must have had an amazing time! Just had a weird but fun idea for this... I'll need to see wether it is feasible though. *looks all misterious*
  6. Now that would be something to submit for the book day photo competition!
  7. Thanks for this review Janet! I'll have to try it. Strangely I never thought of looking at Orwells other books after reading (severa times) 1984, which I loved.
  8. Order of the Phoenix also is one of my favourites (along with Prisoner of Azkaban) but for exacty the opposite reasons from you! I loved the way Harry's character developped in it and thought all the angst was very realistic. I liked that we finally saw him 'breaking down' a bit... Honestly, who wouldn't when faced with his destiny?? The ministry of magic part was good but slightly too heroic and unrealistic... And I adored Umbraidge (well, adored hating her of course) and the atmosphere in Hogwarts! It also is my favourite film adaptation so far... Of course they had to change a lot of things and couldn't put everything in but I felt all the essentials where there and the general atmosphere of the book was very well translated.
  9. Hola! Welcome to the forum aspidistra! I'm sure you'll have a great time here. Don't worry about your english, it's fine! And there are several of us who have a different first language (I'm french). Also, if you ever get tired of speaking english, feel free to make me practice my spanish!
  10. Sorry, only just saw your reply... In the other thread you said one of your favourite genres was biographies didn't you? Then I'd recomend Anne Frank Remembered by Miep Gies & Alison Leslie Gold, the autobiography (shadow written) of Miep Gies, the woman who helped Anne Frank's family hide during the war. A great read! You'll find my review of it here. I hope you'll enjoy it!
  11. I agree about the adaptation award. But other than that I think it definitely deserved awards, far more than Benjamin Button!
  12. Wow, that certainly is something! Not sure wether I'd want my books at staircase level... seems disrespectful of them somehow
  13. I used to get very sick when I tried to do anything in a car, even just play around with a doll or something... Long journeys to go on holidays were a nightmare when I was a kid! Now I still get nauseous/ dizzy but not as much... If I have a really good book on the go that I absolutely want to get on with I'll manage to brave it with some breaks. Otherwise no way. No problems on buses/ tramways/ trains/ planes... I'm not sure about boats.
  14. Thanks Laura. How was your We?

  15. I have this somewhere but couldn't get in it the first time I tried... Might pick it up again since you say it's worth it. Will see...
  16. Hello and welcome Bartleby!
  17. Probably The Count of Monte Cristo. Around 1500 pages, depending on the editions. I wonder why I cant find the time or energy to read such massive books anymore?
  18. Exactly! Or what whould the point of posting them on a blog be? I could actually use one of those nice little notebooks I have abandoned in about every drawer I have *laughs*

  19. That line drips with such a sense of achievement! Well done Roxi!
  20. Yes, but how succesful do you think you'd be if you tried to force them? How succesful are all the teachers who spring a classic on their class and just tell them to get on with it? That's what the author is getting at. Though obviously we all try to share our love of reading, and that's great!
  21. Yum! Sounds good As for me, not sure. Might be Hachis parmentier (a sort of gratin with mashed potatoes and beef in it) but I haven't investigated what's in the oven yet... Living with my parents does have some redeeming points apparently!
  22. Well, that should be quick on mine... There aren't many books on it yet ;-)

No pb, I love really discussing the meaning of books and comparing ways of interpreting them! *grins*

  23. Ah yes, there is that of course
  24. *cracks up* You got me there... I nearly did put the "no, no, no" in here but resisted the urge And yet you enjoy the ice hockey which keeps him all buffered up the rest of the year? I'd resent it! *laughs*
