  1. Oh I loved this book. It really made me laugh but obviously was very moving too. I watched the film the other day and it made me cry. I was worried at the start that it would be a bit sugary sweet but i thought they did a pretty good job of capturing the book.
  2. How did I miss this thread??? One of my all-time favourite shows - almost to the point of obsession. I love the rave party episode. Quiz question - which two actors from spaced turned up in Coronation Street after the show finished?
  3. That sounds great Gyre, something I would probably enjoy. The 1966 film scared the pants off me though
  4. Yay another friend request! I love those. Thank you :friends0:

  5. In that case I can suggest a couple that my OH enjoyed: George R R Martin trilogy, which starts with A Game of Thrones. and Robin Hobb trilogy which starts with The Assassins Apprentice. I am not a massive fantasy reader but quite liked the sound of the Robin Hobb one so will be reading it myself soon
  6. Happy birthday :) Have a lovely day.

  7. Well at least things have calmed down a bit. Shame they aren't valuing you like they could though. I hope you're not getting those Sunday night blues any more.

Things are not bad with me. I'm quite busy at the moment and not able to spend as much time on the forum as I used to. I'm actually trying to be quite disciplined with my internet use so that I spend more time on my creative writing. Maybe one day I'll pop up in the 'authors promotions' section lol.

Anyway nice to catch up. Speak to you soon

    Andrea x

  8. Thanks. I've decided to go as 'little dead riding hood' so I bought a red hooded cape and a really naff stick on slashed throat wound lol (hopefully it won't look terrible but even if it does it will be quite comedy. OH is going as the evil woodcutter. The weather wasn't too bad in the end.

Do you have any plans for Halloween?

  9. I don't know the books in your list. (Well I'm aware of the dark materials but haveb't read them) Are they all fantasy books? (I'm just guessing from the titles - I am probably completely wrong!) If so then I could probably come up with some suggestions since my OH reads a lot in that genre.
  10. Aw thanks hun x I'm pretty good thanks.

I love your avatar. I really should get myself a good halloween one before its too late! Talking of halloween I need to go shopping for a halloween costume today, but its pouring with rain here so thar should be fun

  11. Hi Paula. Just passing thru' thought i'd say hi! How are you?

  12. Hello. Haven't chatted with you in a while so thought i'd drop by and say hi. How are you? How is work at the moment? I find it very difficult to keep up with the 'whats up today thread' these days so I'm all behind on everyone's news.

Oh - congrats to Beth btw. You must be dead chuffed.

  13. I've decided to intersperse this book with some short stories. Last night I read Chekhov's Difficult People. I might also try some Henry James ghost stories (which would be re-reads) and some Maupassant.
  14. I am REALLY struggling with The Power and the Glory I'm finding it heavy and boring and hard to concentrate on. The reviews make it seem worth reading, but I don't know whether to start something else alongside it. Trouble is, if I read something else that's easier I'm likely to give up on TPATG.
  15. I voted for The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I remember being read the whole Narnia series at bedtime as a child and being gripped, and then ruthlessly told to go to sleep at the end of all kinds of exciting cliff-hanging chapters.
  16. Hi - I've seen you around a lot but don't think I've actually said hi. I often like the points you make. Hope to get to know you better soon :)

  17. The film is fab. I haven't read the book though. I read Haunted this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's nothing like a good ghost story when you're in the mood. I hadn't realised there was a sequel though. I may have to check that out
  18. Well I finished this and loved it - a lot more than I expected to. I'd already read Over You which I had quite enjoyed, but hadn't been bowled over by, but AWYWM was great. The humour seemed a lot sharper in it and the plot was more interesting. I know a lot of people found the subject matter too controversial but I thought Lucy handled it really well. I was watching a character I liked, do something I didn't approve of, and it was almost like watching a car crash waiting to happen. I thought the story was utterly compelling and it was hard to put down, meaning I switched the light off later and later each night I read it. I'm looking forward to getting more sleep now I've finished it lol. A couple of things I didn't like: I will definitely be reading more by this author.
  19. Well I finished Any Way You Want Me Wednesday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It really had me turning the pages and made me go to bed way too late on many occasions. I'll put my comments on the dedicated book thread here Now to get stuck into The Power and the Glory by Grahame Greene. I've a feeling it won't be as light a read
  20. No, I haven't read any other Grahame Greene but he's been on my authors to try list for ages. I've only read one chapter but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in now I've finished Any Way you Want me.
  21. Well I haven't got very far with the Graham Greene. The Lucy Diamond book has had me so gripped I've just got stuck into that one. Only 40 pages to go - hoping to finish it tonight
  22. That's odd. I thought that was ITV.
  23. Oh I missed that one! Darn.
  24. I like Michel. He seems pretty fair in his comments, and always tries to give good feedback when he can. I do find his facial expressions a little perturbing though. Sometimes when he makes a comment his eyes almost pop out of his head
