  1. Hi and welcome
  2. I just finished Misery. It was great (although I didn't understand the very last line) I thought it was very well written, and utterly gripping. I think this is my favourite King so far. I think I might read Emotional Geology by Linda Gillard next
  3. Aw peacefield - that's sad Glad the rest of you were OK though.
  4. Author's always seem to look so moody and brooding in their dust jacket pics. I am sure the publishers make them do it so they'll look deep and intellectual. I find that aspect off-putting because, when I see a picture of someone I'll warm to them so much more if they're smiling.
  5. I have both star gazing and emotional geology on my shelf. I can't wait to read them.
  6. Keema pork with rice (basically pork mince, curry paste, peas and tomatoes)
  7. I'm looking forward to reading all of his others (this is only my 5th of his so far)

    Hello

Hi Ethan - welcome to the board. Sorry to hear you are having a rubbish time. Hope we can cheer you up
  9. Psst - that was me
  10. Oh what a lovely message! Thank you. The photograph was taken in Greece at a little cafe on the edge of a square surrounded by shops and market stalls. I think the shape in the right corner is a little market stall but my memory fails me and my eyes can't be sure.

Whereever you are sounds lovely - can I come? :)

I think you are the second person on the board to say I remind them of an actress now. Maybe I am in the wrong career. Perhaps I should go to Hollywood to make my fortune :D

It's lovely to make your acquaintance Genevieve, I've seen you about on the boards and it's always a pleasure to read your posts. They always seem so poetic and romantic.

    Thank you for dropping by.

  11. Mmm that sounds interesting. Good for you We had asda takeaway curry - chicken dopiaza, sag aloo and rice.
  12. Yea - it's a great film. Cathy Bates is brilliantly chilling in it.
  13. Hmm - a pattern emerging Maybe this is a good candidate for 'books to be read in the abridged form'. I certainly wondered if I'd have preferred the abridged version while I was wading through those descriptions.
  14. I wasn't overly enamored with Dolores Claiborne but I did quite like Carrie, I thought it was impressive for a first novel. I'm reading Misery now and loving it. I am rapidly turning into a King fan myself (although not his Number One Fan )
  15. I've put Lucy's monster to one side for now, and picked up Misery by Stephen King. It's terrific so far. The writing is great; I love his description of
  16. It doesn't seem fair does it? Based on your comments I had to go and check him out for myself so I had a look at the opening pages of Da Vinci and Angels online. I have to agree: they were awful!
  17. So you didn't like it then?
  18. I definitely want to read this now. It's been on my wish list for a couple of years but it'll definitely make it to the xmas list this year.
  19. Dan Brown may be a bad writer but I'm guessing he's pretty good at marketing, and deliberately chose to a controversial subject for publicity sake. Plus an entertaining plot goes a long way
  20. Ooh - I have that on my shelf. It's been on my TBR for an age. I've never read any travel writing (apart from half of Down Under by Bill Bryson which I enjoyed and really should have finished). I must read it soon - cursed TBR! Why will you never shrink?
  21. Happy Birthday Roland! :)

  22. After a shaky start I'm starting to enjoy Lucy's Monster. The writing style is leaving me cold in places (although it's good in parts too), but the story is beginning to grip me. I've a feeling I'm going to have just as mixed feelings about this book as I did with Eleven Terrible Months. So far I'm about a quarter way in.
  23. Lol. That just reminded me, when I was reading the Hobbit I dreamt I was Bilbo Baggins.
  24. Finished Marley and Me last night. What a wonderful book. I wasn't expecting much from it, but it was a real joy to read.
  25. I'm fine thanks. I've been enjoying a week off work at home this week which has been lovely! Take care x
