  1. Hello Genevieve :) How are you?

  2. Hello I've just been looking through the lists at the front of your blog. They are very impressive - you have a very well organised TBR
  3. I second both of these. Rama is one of my all time faves. I'd also recommend The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov and Childhood's End by Arthur C Clarke.
  4. Well I finished The Book of Lost Things and overall I wasn't that impressed, which was a little disappointing given how I'd heard so much about it. I found the writing style a bit monotonous. It just read like a rather unpleasant fairy tale. Fantasy's not really my thing anyway. Started The Taking by Dean Koontz and loving it so far. It's much more up my street
  5. I went into it with only a basic understanding of what it would be about but heard the reviews were pretty good and OH was keen. I'm glad I did as I was very impressed. It's not your typical sci-fi film. It's a great story and more ... Couldn't put it better!
  6. I thought Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding was very good. It's a lighthearted girlie adventure story with lots of Helen Fielding style silly humour thrown in, about a style journalist with aspirations into serious news reporting. She gets caught up in a james bond style adventure while on assignment - or is it all just in her overactive imagination?
  7. Alright then. Your turn. In the corner.
  8. Good morning Mac! How are you :)

  9. I went to see District 9 last night. I hadn't heard of it before yesterday but it was absolutely brilliant. You must all go and see it immediately. Go on. Off you go.
  10. You do that
  11. Oh absolutely. Sometimes there is a huge comfort factor in books. I will often read something with the specific aim of de-stressing myself or cheering myself up.
  12. OK I didn't see the actual show but based on other peoples answers I don't see how 'the wisdom of the crowd' combined with maths can predict the lottery results. I think it must be more of a tricksy illusion than he's letting on.
  13. you're welcome. Hope you had a lovely day.

  14. Happy birthday :)

  15. Happy birthday :)

  16. I agree. She really is a fantastic character. I wasn't so keen on the book, she was the main reason I kept reading.
  17. So pleased you enjoyed it. It really is a wonderful book.
  18. Actually last nghts read was a big improvement . It was a lot darker and more grisly which I think he is more adept at writing than the lighter bits. So i'm actually looking forward to continuing with this now
  19. Hello It's a welsh greeting. It kind of means How's it going? or How are things? And the response is the same - shw mae. Pronounced shu (as in should) my
  20. Ooh one of my all time favourites. Glad you enjoyed second time around. I must re-read it one day myself.
  21. Thanks both I'm finding myself a little disappointed with The Book of Lost Things. It made a promising start with good quality writing, but as the book descends further into the world of fairy tale i'm finding the writing deteriorating. I especially disliked - it was irritating. I will perservere nevertheless.
  22. It's been a while! I finished P D James - quite enjoyable, but i'm not sure mysteries are really my thing. Since then I've read The Shack, which I quite enjoyed. I started Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha but after only a dozen pages I really couldn't get on with the writing style. It was just too plain. I'm now reading The Book Of Lost Things by John Connelly, and so far, it's great
  23. Interesting stuff. Well it's good to hear that that stuff is being covered on the courses of those who will end up in town planning! It's complex isn't it. I think a bit needs to come from the individual, a bit from the government and a bit from business. Maybe one day we'll all get to meet in the middle.
  24. Ah - I think you may have missed it. It was on BBC2 9 pm for the last 3 Mondays. It may be repeated though. It's also on iplayer.
