  1. It really is. I will definitely read more by him I think. At the moment he's stuck in Angola between several warring factions and rubbing shoulders with some very scary people. While his life has been very exciting I'm not sure I envy him it!
  2. Well the John Simpson autobiography is absolutely fascinating. Why didn't I pick it up sooner? It's very readable but also covers lots of world events. It's one of those books where I can't wait to go to bed and read
  3. How about some autobiographies by Brits? There is an autobiog thread somewhere that might help.
  4. Hmm. Well yes they are worth reading. They are mo9re old school short stories, about the journey rather than the destination if you know what I mean. So I kind of enjoyed them, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt for more. I mean, I can see their merit, and they are enjoyable to read, but perhaps just not my thing. So yes I would, with a disclaimer lol.
  5. Well shw mae yourself Are you fluent? I'm just a learner myself. Welcome
  6. It's kind of a ghost story, something supernatural and spooky anyway. Trouble is, 'spooky' is a lot harder to write than I'd realised and I don't think it's scary at all, lol. Ah well. Hope you feel better soon. Sleep well.

  7. Oh that's not a happy story :(. I notice you're 23. You might be able to skip the A Levels if they'll accept you as a mature student. I went back to uni at 23ish, as a mature student. I did have A levels though. But a lot of the older people on the course didn't, they had done access courses and things.

But if it's meant to happen it will happen when the time is right. The novel sounds fab! Have fun :)

  8. How old is he? What are his interests? Also, do you have any examples of the books he likes?
  9. Ooh how exciting. I too am working on a novel. In fact I should be working on it now instead of being on here. Have you ever considered going back to get some of those qualifications (not that you seem to need them, you seem to be getting along fine without them!)

What was your other route? Also what is your novel about if you don't mind me asking?

  10. Hi. I see you a lot in the writing forums so thought I'd drop by and say hello properly. I take it you are a bit of a writer then? Any interesting projects on the go?

  11. Wow - that is some story! If only cats could talk! I bet she'd have had a right old tale to tell there.
  12. You have mail :) I don't blame you about not wanting to publish it.

  13. Well it's a shame. I couldn't find your email in your profile by the way. Did you mean fpr people to email you through your profile? I.e. by PM? Or am I just being blind? :)

  14. Sorry to hear you're leaving. The place will have less sparkle without you!

  15. Well, ok. It just seems a shame that someone makes an unfortunate comment and 5 moderators have to jump in when it should only really take one to deal with it. As for negative comments about the forum, well it's just an opinion at the end of the day, and I've seen worse negative comments in my life, and I've not seen many snipes on the site from that user.

Perhaps like you say, I'm not seeing the whole picture. Oh well.

  16. Hi Katrina. I don't know what to say. Just sending you some :friends0:

  17. Finished Dirk Gently last night. It was good, but not as good as I remember it. Next I'll be tackling John Simpson's Strange Places, Questional People. It's an impulse buy that's been sat on my shelf for ages, and put off because the impulse wore off and I expected it to be boring. Finally I am in the mood for it.
  18. Lol - did it? Well that's promising I haven't seen the trailer yet myself.
  19. Thanks Nicola. That sounds a promising indication as he's read and enjoyed the Northern Lights and Harry Potter books.
  20. Sounds to me like the law is at fault here rather than the police.
  21. Thank you; I did. It was brilliant and Michael Caine is superb in it.
  22. My bf is a fan of True Blood and is considering the books but is worried they might be a bit girly. I notice 90% of the people on this thread are women. How much do you think they would appeal much to men?
  23. Hi. Just noticed your signature. Congratulations on doing so well with the fags. I gave up over ten years ago now and it was one of the hardest (but also best) things I ever did. I haven't looked back though. Good luck.

  24. I'm going to see Harry Brown tonight.
  25. I'm looking forward to Paranormal Activity when it comes out at the end of November. I just hope it's not another Blair Witch. I thought that was really disappointing. The whole thing just annoyed me.
