  1. Ooh intriguing. In mine I find a door or a stairway to a whole section of my house that I'd never previously been to. And in every dream I always think 'oh wow. I really must start using this space'. Their never disturbing dreams though, well only when I wake up and realise my house is still my plain old ordinary little house.
  2. Ooh fab. I sing in a choir - its great fun. Coincidentally I'm hoping to start learning the piano soon too. I'm getting a keyboard from santa this year i hope I sing in a secular community choir (although it does include some church songs - but its more about the music than the words) My 5 facts (I dont remember what my original 5 were) 1. I sing in a choir 2. I'm allergic to chocolate 3. I'm half way through writing my second novel 4. I think Coronation Street is the best thing on TV 5. I have lots and lots of very vivid dreams, often with recurring themes, including outer space, multi-storey car parks and finding unexpected rooms in my house
  3. Oops - missed your birthday yesterday. Hope you had fun :)

  4. Happy birthday book fiend. Have a great day :)

  5. I finished The Power and The Glory last night. I think the book really picks up about a third way in - when we're following the priest himself. (The beginning focuses on other characters). I thought it was a really interesting story. It's about the persecution of the Catholic church in Mexico at the beginning of the last century. Priests are hunted down and forced to marry or be shot. This book follows the story of the last priest in the country, an alcoholic known as the whiskey priest, who although he wants to escape, can't seem to bring himself to leave the country where he sees people need him. I really liked the character of the priest and found the story get more and more gripping as the chase goes on. It's a grim subject matter, and I expected it to be a depressing read, but actually didn't find it so.
  6. Hi - noticed you hadn't been around for a while so just stopped by to say hi and hope you're ok :)

  7. Then you may be interested in the comparative reading circle discussion we had on Carmilla and Dracula some time ago here: http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3499&highlight=classic+vampires
  8. Hi Anika :)

No it's actually a market square somewhere on the Greek Island Kos. I remember it being a hot day so I enjoyed the cool drink lol. I am a fan of pre-raphaelite art too, ever since I saw The lady of Shalott at the National Gallery in London. It took my breath away!

Anyway, it's nice to have you here. Speak to you soon!

  9. You have definitely come to the right place! Soon you'll be drowning in books lol. Welcome ETA: Love the Avvie by the way. Is it by Waterhouse? I notice you have The Lady of Shallot on your profile. That's one of my favourite paintings.
  10. Hi Chris Nice to meet you. I only discovered Dean Koontz recenty but so far I like what I've read and look forward to working through the back catalogue. I also read Far from the Madding Crowd this year and loved it. Look forward to chatting with you on the forum!
  11. Hi and welcome
  12. Mmmm Eewww Lol - aww :friends0:Ah well, as long as it fills you up. I think i'm going to make a very plain stir fry for dinner out of frozen pak choi, quorn and either onions or peas, with boiled rice and no sauce (invalid food as I have a mild flu type thing )
  13. How do you know they are eastern european immigrants?
  14. I think it's fair enough. The person has already been punished. The police's comments seem sensible to me.
  15. Right. I'm half way through Dirk Gently (very enjoyable!) and I've now picked up the Graham Greene and actually started enjoying it. Hopefully I'll stick at it this time!
  16. I've put a collection of Tennyson on my birthday/xmas wish list. Can't wait to get stuck in!
  17. Ah good. I'm not totally alone then
  18. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think I'm somewhat alone in my opinion lol. Perhaps I suffered from 'over-hyping syndrome'.
  19. Hi Libri Did you finish The Book of Lost Things? I wasn't that blown away by it but a lot of people loved it. I'd be interested to read your thoughts.
  20. Genevieve I am so so sorry to hear your news. I cannot imagine how you must feel. I am sending you lots of hugs and prayers ok. You will be in my thoughts. Take care of yourself x :friends0:

  21. Mine are probably 90% fiction 10% non fiction. But I do like to read factual magazines like the New Scientist as well. I think I go through phases of wanting to read non-fiction but they are always strongly outweighed by my love of fiction. I think I've become more fiction-oriented as I've got older. I used to read a lot more factual books as a youngster, especially science type ones.
  22. Ah Genevieve. I'm so glad you're back. I must admit I was getting rather worried.

It sounds like you haven't had the easiest time of it while you were away, so I hope you are OK :friends0:

Me - I am ok, trundling along the same as ever :)

Look forward to catching up with you x

  23. Well I've put down The Power and the Glory for now in favour of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (a re-read) as I felt in need of something cheery rather than gloomy. I'll pick the other one up again when I'm more in the mood.
  24. And the prize goes to ....Raven. Congratulations I seem to remember Julie Deakin playing some nutter who almost pushed a little girl off a building. And Emily Bishop stopped her I think. She was practically unrecognisable as Marcia - the character was so different.
